any advice on best .mkv splitter and h.264 decoder? I know, it's one of those questions with no single best answer, but I'm looking for input on what works for you guys...
I've been trying to pick a "final" format for dvd-rips that works with more-or-less everything. So far using handbrake to encode to h.264 in an .mkv container seems to work best... the files play great through Plex Media Center on the HTPC, and also through the Plex app on my samsung bluray; they also play on the bluray fed directly from a DLNA server with no problems. h.264 in .mkv seems closest to making every device happy.
However, I also want to be able play the files directly on the HTPC via NPVR's video library, but the results haven't been so perfect.
So far I've tried the Haali and LAV splitters, and the Microsoft DTV-DVD and LAV Video decoders.
Haali + MS: high CPU use, npvr becomes sluggish, hard to skip. aspect ratio is wrong - anamorphic video stretched vertically to 16:9
LAV Splitter + MS: same as Haali + MS, which is no real surprise
Haali + MS: didn't try, had to remove Haali to get LAV splitter to work
LAV Splitter + LAV Video: low cpu use, skipping is fine. aspect ratio is wrong - anamorphic video stretched vertically to 16:9
So it LAV is the better decoder, but the aspect ratio is always wrong (which drives me insane). I could obviously add a custom aspect ratio to NPVR and select it manually, but it shouldn't be necessary - when I play the same movie from the ripped VIDEO_TS folder, NPVR's Auto mode gets it right.
First thing I'm trying to figure out is who's fault is it that the aspect ratio isn't coming out right? Is this the splitter's fault, decoder's fault, NPVR's fault, or handbrake's fault? All the other methods of playing the file get the aspect ratio correct.
Would it be possible to have it so that if a user attempts to delete a recording from the list and it is unsuccessful (for whatever reason) that the recording does not get removed from the list?
Hi just installed NPVR on an older 2007 optiplex computer. I am using a hauppauge hvr1600 tuner card. Everything installed well. In Device manager I see the hvr1600 as NTSC/Qam/ATSC, but in NPVR I only see the ATSC/Qam side of the tuner - no analog. I can scan for the ATSC channels and they all come in and play really well, just no analog tuner. I need the analog side of the tuner for my dish network channels. I have tried a few different drivers with no success. Any ideas?
I have been working for 3 weeks, trying to get this NEXTPVR to work and still same problem. It might be that I dont understand how to edit the xml file after I do the filter check. Apparently it says I have to have software endocder and multiplex rather than hardware but I cannot figure out what I need to put in to the .xml file from reading the directions. Pasting below is my filter check log.

I am trying to configure NPVR for the first time using a new AverMedia AVerTV Volar Hybrid Q USB tuner. I am unable to detect any channels via antenna. I don't see any errors and the tuner works fine in the included app from AverMedia.
I have installed NPVR 2.6.2 on a Windows XP Home system running SP3. I tried updating the AverMedia driver and re-registering filters with no luck.
Please let me know what to try next.
Here is the device I am trying to scan for channels.

I've Been using MS Media Center for years and just hate it. But, I've been trying to setup NPVR for hours. After reading what some other folks have gone through Media Center is looking better all the time. Here's the link
I went out to Hauppauge's website and they recommended you on the 2250 spec.
This is what I have to work with. I've been trying for hours to get this correct and no luck at all importing analog or bulk
Country: "United States"
Digital Cable provider: "Bright house Networks of Winter Park Florida"
My zip code : "32821"
Capture/TV Tuner: "Hauppauge 2250"
Computer: 4 MHz Desktop
I want to use MC2XML or anything else that will work
What I don't want to do is manually type, setup or change 115 channels only to find out something is screwed up. Knowing that regardless of where you are this setup is available to you. Can you please help?
Just upgraded my Xfinity system to their X1 platform. I'm not having much luck getting the Hauppauge IR Blaster to control the X1 box. Anybody have any experience with this? Xfinity Remote= XR2 v2, Xfinity STB= RNG 150N.
Hi. My NEWA interface was working wonderfully up until recently. A few days ago, I was cleaning up some of the unused channels in the NextPVR client, and was moving around some of the EPG assignments. When I was done, I noticed that NEWA is now only displaying channels up to the last channel I deleted. If I check NextPVR directly, all channels and EPG info. is there. Same with XBMC - all channels and EPG data is available. I have tried different systems with different browsers, and have cleared the browser cache with no luck. I stopped and restarted the NPVR recording service - no luck. I deleted the epg file, and recreated from scratch - no luck. Lastly, I rebooted the system and still nothing.
