  Move from SageTV
Posted by: lwm4p - 2012-11-24, 05:24 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (1)

OK.... so along with every other SageTV user, I am pretty pissed about the acquisition... but now that my head has stopped steaming, I have actually started looking around for alternatives if/when I decide to jump. So I am asking for some advice to try and give myself an estimate of what I am getting into. I am pretty technical, but certainly not an expert in PVR stuff.

This is what I have:
Server running XP with Sage V7
Haupauge Cards (1800 and 2250)
Two Comcast Converters using a USB-UIRT to control them through SageTV
Main TV runs with an HD300, which has a pretty good remote specific to the software (ie, nice quick buttons)
Kitchen TV is a touchscreen (XP) running Sage Client

We are a pretty simple family in terms of use. This is the main stuff we use:
- TV: Favorities to record our regular shows, EPG linup
- Commercial Skip
- Stores all our music, photos, and movies
- Most movies are in mpg or avi
- Before trips, I copy a bunch of shows onto my tablet and play them while on our trip (ie, just need have free ability to copy things around and have the DVR record in a usable format).
- I use taSage on my phone to control music from outside when we are listening on teh back porch
- We probably have some other things we like, but nothing I can't be convinced to use in another format

Questions:
- Does NPVR support most of what I am talking about?
- I looked at teh popbox V8 (wow, looks like the HD300 almost)... would that replace my HD300? how does it work with the server?
- What about the touchscreen in the kitchen? Is there client software?

  UltiDev Pro
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-11-23, 10:10 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (8)

Sub, I am pretty sure I have pestered you before about upgrading your internal web server to UltiDev Pro, http://ultidev.com/products/Cassini/index.htm for many reasons. It seems that as NextPVR grows the web server is becoming the foundation and it would really be nice to see if move ahead with NextPVR. One day it could very well be the weakest link. I am posting this in the developers forum, because I know it impacts, hurts and helps several devs too.

  Setting "Fixed CH"?
Posted by: vogelap - 2012-11-23, 05:57 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

I am a long-time BeyondTV user who is exploring NextPVR as a potential replacement.

I am running into an issue with my Hauppauge 1850 card. NextPVR has "Fixed CH" set to 2, but I need it set to 3. Where do I set that option?

Also, any tips on getting NextPVR running with that card would be appreciated. Thanks!

GeForce GT 610 - Good HTPC card?
Posted by: HarryH3 - 2012-11-23, 04:59 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (6)

I'm thinking about moving our NPVR server and attaching it to one of our TV's via HDMI so we can actually view HD content. (Right now we watch everything in SD, via Media MVP's) Sad Newegg has a deal on this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814500276 for $10 after rebate. Does this card have what it takes to playback recorded TV and other video without problems, or should I be looking for something else?

Thanks!

  Thin client system recommendations
Posted by: SickBoy - 2012-11-23, 04:31 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (13)

Hey all - been inactive for a while but am now looking to shift my htpc system from a single machine to a server/client setup. Basic idea is to move all of the recording hardware (namely, capture cards and storage) down to my desktop machine that can run 24/7 and turn the other machines into thin clients that sleep when not needed, with ssd's for quick bootup.

I'm looking to acquire at least one net-top type system - any recommendations? Something significant enough to do playback of H264 streams, if possible. I'll likely find a way to run ethernet cables so that I don't have to fuss with wireless, so gigabit ethernet is a must.

thanks!

Hauppauge DCR-2650 - Remote Control Not Working
Posted by: Hoogineer - 2012-11-23, 03:45 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

Folks:

I'm setting up a NextPVR box for my in-laws using a Hauppauge DCR-2650 (CableCard dual tuner). It's definitely required a lot more work than the one using a Hauppauge HVR-1600 (non-CableCard dual digital/analog tuner) that I built a few years ago; however, I mostly have it sorted out.

One of the big problems I'm having is that I can't get the remote control to work. I _do_ have the "Hauppauge DCR-2650 IR Service" running according to the Services panel (as well as the "Hauppauge Tuning Adapter Proxy"). I don't see any keypresses coming through in notepad. I'm used to configuring C:\Windows\irremote.ini and using the IR remote system tray icon that comes with other Hauppauge tuners (which I can install, but I'm not sure it accomplishes anything w/ the DCR-2650).

Note that I'm running Windows XP SP3 (not supported by Hauppauge) vice Windows 7, but so far I've gotten most things to work just fine; e.g., I didn't run Windows MC DCA since I don't have a media center version. I realize that this is more of a community question than a NextPVR question, but I wanted to check with people here that could help.

I really appreciate any help that someone can provide.

Thanks,
Jeff

System Details:

NextPVR version: 2.5.9
OS: Windows XP SP3
Tuner: Hauppauge WinTV DCR-2650 (Firmware 20111025)
WMDRM-NDT: 20101130-Silicondust (not sure what this is -- hardware version?)
CPU, Graphics, Sound: Pentium 4, 3.0 GHz, (crappy) integrated Intel graphics (GMA), integrated sound
Codecs installed: AC3, CCCP, InstaCodecs
Cable Service: CableVision
CableCard: NDS VideoGuard Multi-Stream CableCARD VGM900
Tuning Adapter: Cisco STA1520

Support for ini files from Kingofsat/... + missing DVB-S2
Posted by: RadeoNite - 2012-11-23, 02:36 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (22)

Hi,

I was wondering if NextPVR (I'm using v2.5.9) supports the use of transponder ini files from a site like Kingofsat? I tried already using such a ini file, but NextPVR doesn't seem to like the extra parameters (like DVB-S/S2, 8PSK/QPSK...) that are in those ini files. In the NPVR log I see the following message:

"Unexpected error in scanning form: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format."

A second problem I am having is that NextPVR doesn't seem to find any DVB-S2 channels on my Hauppauge HVR-5500. I think it is related to the problem above as the extra info about the modulation,... isn't known to NextPVR so it can't search those frequencies correctly. I deleted the extra info from Kingofsat's ini files and NextPVR was able to search for channels, except for those that are DVB-S2.

  Windows 8
Posted by: feilh - 2012-11-23, 02:12 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (21)

I just built a new system with Windows 8 PRO (no microsoft home theater stuff yet). Intel 3570K with HD4000 graphics and intel driver. Its almost a fresh build. I installed the netframework and C++ runtime libraries. I then installed npvr 2.5.9. I almost configured nothing. I didn't even install any tuner hardware/drivers yet. I copied a .ts file from my older system and stuck it in a video folder and tried to play it.

It wouldn't play the .ts file. I just got a black screen. I didn't think I would need to install any additional mpeg2 decoders to make this work with npvr.

logs attached.

Just curious, how many bytes did u allocate for the "File: x/xx" in pending records?
Posted by: Kiwi - 2012-11-23, 07:25 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (12)

Just curious, how many bytes did u allocate for the "File: x/xx" in pending records?

Why I ask this, is because I'm reading wrong values. If it's using a byte only, then is it because my pending records are more than 256?
