We're going to be away for quite a few weeks over Christmas, so I thought I would copy a bunch of my son's programs and videos across to a HDD to take with us, and then have him watch them on a tablet (Nexus 7 or first-gen iPad).
I've previously used a usb adapter and just plugged a stick into the Nexus 7, but thought it would be cleaner to share the content via wifi. I suspect that external hdds with built-in wifi will be a growing market, but not many are available yet - the seagate goflex freeagent is available but pretty expensive, and Patriot have released a wifi-equipped enclosure that isn't available here yet. Considered getting a router which supports attached storage, but the small ones I have looked at don't have that option, and I remembered that router NAS support was often pretty flaky.
I'm currently considering configuring an old laptop or a raspberry pi to act as a wireless server, but that seems like overkill - does anyone know of a cheap wireless server that might do the job?
cheers,
tieke
EDIT: At the moment I have decided my simplest and quickest option is just to use a laptop and share the files using windows shares via Virtual Router
I have been running with two analog tuners in NPVR 2.5.9 R1. Using the client= parameter on the streaming URL, I have been able to successfully support two concurrent live streams from remote VLC clients. I recently added a third analog tuner, and its associated set top box. All of the tuners are working, with their corresponding infared blasters, etc. However, when I try to start more than two live tv streams, the third one fails. I know the third tuner will support live streaming, because I checked the box to allocate tuners in reverse order to live tv, and the new tuner works successfully, if it is not the third session attempted.
I have attached logs of this scenario. The only difference I note in the log of the third live tv session startup is that it is missing the message: "Live TV handle: 0x-----'. Then it appears in the log to start over in starting the stream, then fails because no tuner is available. This occurs at time: 9:00:48 or so.
I've looked for some parameter for a limit on live streams, but can't seem to find any. What am I missing?
This card supports the detection of DVB-T, DVB-T2 and DVB-C.
Previously there were 2 sets of Windows drivers that only allowed either DVB-T/DVB-T2 mode or DVB-C mode depending on which drivers were installed.
Recently a combined version of the drivers were released.
But I notice that NextPVR can only detect the card as DVB-T2 card and cannot tune to DVB-C signal. Is there any programming that needs to be done to tune both DVB-T/T2 and DVB-C on the single device as detected in NextPVR?
When using one 2650 tuner to record, and watching live TV on the second, channel changes produce a "reduced channel list" message on the top right of the screen, which is not correct. I do have 2 clear QAM tuners that actually do have a reduced channel list compared to the 2650, but that does not come into play for this scenario.
Based on MPEG repair logs I believe I have been having issues with signal quality of late.
I used to use ScanChannelsBDA_UK because it has a nice graphical format, but it just quickly opens and closes and throws the log below, with no menu. OTOH
NPVR actually displays the channels, using the known frequency to my nearest station (626000, 8) and
A quick scan in NPVR finds the same channels and
ScanChannelsBDA does give me a result on both BDA Tuners, with one at 84% , 100% (Strength, Quality), the otehr about 80%, 75%
thoughts?

I've decided to try NextPVR (v2.5.9).
While EPG seems to be populated from the channels (over the air) just fine,
the language is wrong as some channels transmit billingual EPG (English & Greek).
How can I switch language to get the Greek EPG descriptions?
So all you clever people, has anybody built a plug-in that could be used to immediately launch another application directly from the Main menu? i'm looking for something like "Programs" but for a single application and without bringing up a new, different screen first.
Programs is great but I only want to launch one application (ie with Iplayer) so it would be really neat if I could just have an iPlayer option on the main menu.
The alternative, which would also be really neat would be to get Programs modified so that it looks like a sub-menu in exactly the same style as the main menu.
Hi all, I am sure that I am missing something simple here but...
I have installed XBMC 12.0 Frodo Beta on both a W7 and a Linux machine (both are clients), along with the latest nextPVR add-on and the required patch. The plug-in shows as enabled ok, and I have 'Live TV' on the homescreen, but whenever I select it (or any of the sub-menus - TV Channels, etc), I get the error message "No PVR Clients Have Been Started Yet". It doesn't matter how long I leave it, and I get the same error on both the W7 box and the Linux netbook. NextPVR works fine with the W7 machine as a client, so I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any advice?
