TheTVDB.com users and developers,
For the past five years our site has been graciously hosted for free by the employer of one of our administrators. This has allowed us to offer completely free and unlimited access to all API developers.
Unfortunately he has recently switched companies and his new company will be unable to host the site for free. Thankfully we've secured a new hosting solution that delivers our content via a worldwide CDN for faster and more reliable delivery. As our content starts getting cached on the CDN, you should see great speed improvements with the site. There will likely be a few remaining issues we need to work out, so please be patient with us.
However, while this solution is relatively inexpensive, it is not free. We are asking our users and the projects that use our API to consider donating. Every little bit adds up and we appreciate the assistance no matter the amount. Right now we have a handful of loyal donors that cover a portion of the monthly cost, but we still have a long way to go. Please note that donating is completely optional and not required to continue free use of our API. We're not going anywhere, but even small donations will help the long term viability of the site.
I am still working on a rewrite of the site and we do have plans to offer premium services on the site in the future, while still allowing free access to the site's current functionality. Anyone that has donated in the past or donates from this point on will get those premium features free for one year. We will announce these premium services once they become available.

I don't understand which decoders I should use for what or how to set my system up.
I have SD and HD channels which I assume have some sort of surround sound.
I also have some ripped DVDs (5.1 surround) and some video clips (2 ch).
So what maps to what decoder. UK freeview/sat TV.
Basically everything is coming across to the amp as 2ch PCM. I did have surround for a short time for the ripped DVD but thats gone back to 2ch.
I installed the SAF6 codecs so I can get HD TV, but I am not sure how the audio all fits together, audio settings for realtech, renderers, decoders, ffshow settings if I select those. Nothing I do seems to get anything other than 2ch.
When I installed SAF it said pass through to SPDIF, my audio is out of the HDMI. Have I lost it to SPDIF or will it go there and to the HDMI.
I have windows XP.
Any advice on what I should expect to get and how to get it would be really appreciated.
As a new user I have found this forum to be fantastic in having many answers to questions and issues. Many thanks to all involved in making this so! I now would like to use my TitanTV account for EPC but the TitanTV.com site is not helpful and the instructions from this forum are several years old and the files could not be found on TitanTV.com. I hope someone here can help me get the NPVR working with TitanTV. I using NPVR with a Homerun Dual ATSC tuner.
Hello, I had NPVR 2.4.3 installed on a testbed and hadn't used it in a bit. I had nDroid installed and working as well.
Just updated it to 2.5.5, all patched up, updated nDroid to 1.8.2, but on my devices (HTC phone and Asus tablet) I'm getting no Guide data even though it looks like the files are being downloaded to the devices. It says something about sorting the database (sorry, didn't write down the exact message). I uninstalled nDroid and reinstalled it, but I'm getting the same result.
But, I have added an OTA ATSC tuner to NPVR, and it's not showing up in the nDroid channel list. So now I'm wondering if it's really downloading any data at all. I checked the channel zip file that nDroid creates on the server, and it does have the OTA channels in it.
BTW the list of Recordings does seem to be fine and being updated on my devices. Oh, and I previously turned off Windows Firewall.
I'm new to nextpvr and I wanted to try out if it works with my DVBLink IPTV product.
I get my channels via UDP broadcast from my ISP, so I need nextPVR to support that or the tuners provided by DVBLink.
When I go to settings -> Devices -> Tuner 1-8 -> Device Setup -> Scan, I get "Unable to start device: Device failed to start".
What could be wrong?

I tried stopping the DVBLink service, which could use the tuners, but no luck.
Here is my scenario. I have a 4 family apt building and considering putting in NPVR for simple local broadcasts. I might add another 4 unit bldg over time which is next door. They could easily have more than 1 tv though per apartment.
1. I would like to control access based on an allowed MAC address from NPVR. They could have more than one MAC per apt. Second choice would be to have a PIN to get access. Same pin per apartment.
2. They can see the guide and make recording choices as well as watch and record programs. They don't see each other's recording choices. An apartment that chooses the same program as another would just have it marked in their guide, not record two versions of course.
3. If they delete, it will be marked for deletion since other families may not have watched the program yet. (Maybe allow undelete if it is still there?)
4. They cannot see what others have recorded unless it is on their recording guide. You might include old program data if it has not yet been deleted off the drive.
5. I would have a scheduled number of days before deletion or an amount of free storage needed before files are deleted.
6. I have not considered it for "LIVE" broadcasts due to the fact that I would need too many tuners, I'm considering the simple HDHOMERUN for the locals. If this is a success, I could add a HDPRIME or something but the idea is to give them basic TV with a guide, HD, inexpensive and an alternative to a dish or cable.
To make a lot of this work, I would prefer to use an NMT like Popbox v8 or something similar. (They even have a WIFI adapter which I would like to test with.) Assuming cheap and easy to set up, includes a remote, works with NEXTPVR. A PC version would be ok, but I won't expect these tenants to own computers which have a video card capable of connecting to the tv for watching. I need it as simple and hands off as possible.
This is sort of like taking the color coded choices per family member and going a step farther. Is it a huge leap, IDK, but I know there is a lot here to consider? May be a better solution than the color option?
Am I asking for a mountain of work? I hope not. It might make more sense in a larger building with 12 or more apartments, but I like the idea and just thought I'd put it out there. I'm sure I'd use it in the home to separate the family members viewings.
If setting up a machine as NPVR recording server (using DVB-C devices), meaning all recordings (and live TV) will only be watched on clients (mainly NMT's but maybe also NextPVR/PC-clients), how important is it to get all the "difficult stuff" like renderers, decoders, codecs, filters etc configured and fine-tuned on the server?
Very important, because clients are stupid and rely completely on the software on the server?
Or not important at all, because the clients do everything, and the server just sends the transport streams "unmodified" to the client?
And kind of same question when it comes to how fast a client will be able to change live-TV channel. Which parts of the software installed and configurations made on the server are important to get a nice and quick channel change on a client?
I would like to get an NMT and think that the Popbox would make the best choice. Looks like all the previous Popcorn Hour units are quite old, then replacements just got much more expensive as well as not supported and this unit seems to fill the need.
Has there been any progress on getting this to work with NPVR? They look to be only $129US
