  Aspect Ratios for 4:3 Screens
Posted by: XJW - 2012-08-21, 04:47 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (15)

Sub,

I have a 4:3 screen. When old shows that were filmed in 4:3 format are transmitted on a widescreen channel they appear as a small square in the middle of the screen with a large black border on all sides.

I am guessing this is a common issue for those of us watching digital channels on 4:3 screens.

I have tried all the aspect ratio settings but none remove the black borders - none will allow the 4:3 picture to fill my 4:3 screen.

I have added an option for "-0.17,0,1.17,1" and the 4:3 picture fills the 4:3 screen nicely. Can you add a new option, for these settings, for 4:3 screens ?

And is it possible to add the following to the live tv keymappings to make it easier to toggle aspect ratios for MCE remotes ?

<Key code="{ALT}R" command="ToggleAspectRatio"/>

  Live TV Playback issues
Posted by: DjEclipse - 2012-08-20, 09:32 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (37)

Hi all,

I just installed NECT PVR and am having issues playing live tv.

Set up is as follows
Windows XP all up to date, SP3 etc.
HD Homerun Dual tv tuner

I am able to find channels with Next PVR, initially I was unable to get any sound or video when clicking on live tv. I installed a different codec and I am now able to play video but it seems to stress my system to the point where it gets choppy and un-watchable.

Sometimes if I just click on one station and leave ti there it will be ok, but as soon as I pull up the channel guide or do anything else the program almost freezes.

I am able to watch tv using Quick TV the software that HD Homerun came with so it is not that the tuner doesn't work or y computer is too slow.

I am guessing it may be that I need different codecs for it to work?

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

  Help with ATI TV WONDER HD750
Posted by: caifaz - 2012-08-20, 01:57 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (19)

Hi everyone, first of all here is my question

Is NPVR compatible with ATI TV WONDER HD750?

If it is please continue reading lol

I have analog cable television (NTSC)

when I select the live tv option I get an error (attached as error1.txt)

when I go to settings and check the device list I only get these:

* ATSC/QAM Digital Tuner
* ATI CQAM Digital Tuner
* ATSC/QAM Digital Tuner
* DVBT Digital Tuner

I guess this won't work as those are digital turners and I have an analog signal right? (Yes I works with the software it cames)

I saw that there is a way to add analog devices, I installed the softpvr software and used the filtercheck file I'm attaching that file too as filtercheck.txt, but the issue is that in my NPVR folder there is no analogdevices.xml and it is a fresh installation.

I guess I'm attaching everything I hope someone can help me to get this working.

thanks!

  G540 Sandy Bridge
Posted by: ga_mueller - 2012-08-20, 02:31 AM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

Just rebuilt my gbpvr system, upgrading from an Atom 330 to a Celeron 540 (Sandy Bridge, 32nm, decontented i3). A very nice, and cost-effective upgrade. Built-in graphics work great. Ditched the case fan and run only with the supplied CPU fan @ 65%... minimum you can hear. Max CPU temp in an enclosed cabinet is 50C. Intel is 1-2 process technology nodes ahead of AMD (and their Global Foundry pals), but I hope AMD stays around to offer some competitive pressure on Intel. AMD never could manufacture worth a crap... (I know Smile).
Thanks to those who helped with the XP-Win7 upgrade... a great community!

  Hauppauge HD-PVR 2
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-08-19, 10:30 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (23)

I have looking for a way to capture HDMI (non-HDCP) and it seems Hauppauge has a nice update to the HDPVR as another alternative to their Colossus.
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/press/pdf/...csheet.pdf If you have reservations about the USB nature of the HDPVR I have made over 50 recordings this month and haven`t had to reset the box once (we did have on thunderstorm outage for a few hours)

Here it is on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mmz7vXQlugU

  Move OSD?
Posted by: mattyb - 2012-08-19, 08:33 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

Something minor I'm sure.... when viewing recordings/videos GBPVR had the time elapsed/remaining bar at the top of the screen whereas NPVR is at the bottom. Is there a way to move it to the top in NPVR?

  Colored dots on recordings are great! But a couple of suggestions...
Posted by: BrettB - 2012-08-19, 01:57 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (13)

Sub,

Adding the ability to display the colored dots on recordings is great!!!! I did have to modify the recordings2.xml in the default skin to also display them for the non-selected list items, but that was easy.

Now that we are starting to use them regularly, I'm wondering if you could also support for them in the grouped recordings listings (i.e. Ready Recordings). The 2 specific things that I would like to see are:

  1. When a group listing is selected and a colored button is pressed, it would set that colored dot for all recordings in the group. So if there is a series that I don't care about, I could select the series, press my color, and then all of the current recordings would be marked indicating that I'm finished with them.
  2. Include an option to summarize the colored dot settings of all the recordings in the group. Ideally, it would have 3 display options: dot completely off if NONE of the recordings in the group have that color set, dot completely on if ALL of the recordings in the gorup have that color set, and something like a 50% dot (i.e. a different image file selection) if ANY of the recordings in the group have that color set.

I like the looks of the small icon wall but would be be possible to have this configure only at the first one or two (with multiple folders). Otherwise it is not much use for recordings.

  Toshiba U3.0 Laptop Dock
Posted by: mvallevand - 2012-08-18, 11:06 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

After many years of being a dedicated desktop type I finally decided to try a laptop as my primary workstation as well as an NPVR client (simple i7 with HD4000 graphics), it was ok but I found I really wanted a real keyboard and mouse for power desktop-like use. I searched the web and found this Toshiba device http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/4708/to...ndex1.html and while the other reviews around the internet were pretty well mixed, I got one anyway @ $130 CDN. I have used it extensively yesterday and today and it has been more than met my expectations.

Right now, I am using the same keyboard, mouse, DVI monitor and external speakers and have the wire for GigE network all connected into the dock and it is the same experience I had only much better with the nearly silent laptop drive and my NextPVR server waiting to wake to record. The laptop is sitting case closed on the destkip

When I leave to watch TV, I unplug the USB cable and power and I'll be all set until I bring it make it back here tonight.

If you are curious how NextPVR runs through it, I was testing with both HDMI and DVI monitors connected to the dock plus my laptop monitor enabled and I was running 3 separate full screen sessions with PIP running on all of them and I was at 20% CPU. In normal use with 1080i it is around 5%. I didn't try a fourth HDMI monitor into the laptop itself, because I'm not that crazy.

The limitation with the system is missing Blu-Ray w/ HD audio but I have other devices for that.
