  NDigitalHost.exe has encountered a problem
Posted by: Haggis - 2012-06-18, 12:54 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

After turning the TV on last Friday evening there was a dialog saying “NDigitalHost.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close”. A recording was scheduled at that time so I assume that the dialog appeared when the recording started.

The machine has two tuners, a Nova HD S2 for DVB-S and a Nova TD Stick for DVB-T. When I go to play live tv from the Nova S2 the same dialog appears with sometimes a picture appearing for about a second, although I can play one of the DVB-T channels ok. Using WinTV 7 I’m able to see channels from either card with no problems.

So far I’ve tried:
- A reboot
- RegisterFilters.bat
- Reinstall NPVR 2.4.3 over the top of the existing

The NRecord log gives the error:
2012-06-17 12:23:47.781 [ERROR][16] Unexpected stopping remote stream: System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: Failed to write to an IPC Port: The pipe is being closed.

Unfortunately the logs seems to have lost the entries for Friday evening around 22:00 when the original problem occurred but on looking at the time I noticed one of them saying something like “[something] is taking way too long”

Im using the SAF codec pack which was installed about three weeks ago, and its running Windows XP.

I’ve attached the logs where the problem was duplicated on 17th June at 18:34, and a jpg of the original error.

Cheers

EPG only updates for 2 hours into future
Posted by: nick.langstone - 2012-06-18, 09:48 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

Hi All
I have been using NPVR (just installed the latest version on a clean Win 7 install) for a few years and have always had this problem (I thought it was my slow PC - but not any more) -
The EPG is only updated for about 2 hours into the future - and only when I go in and watch live TV.

I have the EPG set to run at 2am - and set to 120 minutes (not 100% sure what this is - I suspect the time EPG is allowed to run for .. )
The PC is always on. I have just rebuilt it with an Intel i5, 8G Ram and SSD - -so it is fast.
I am using a WinTV-HVR-2200 running in Auckland NZ - the card and everything is working fine - I can record and watch live TV -- only the EPG only shows the next 2 hours of shows. Very frustrating.

Any suggestions what I can lookat to get the EPG to list shows for the next week ?

Thanks

Nick
PS NPVR is a fantastic package -- great work.

Insert Metadata "Subtitle" to filename / Remove "Time"
Posted by: baze256 - 2012-06-18, 01:58 AM - Forum: Add-ons (3rd party plugins, utilities and skins) - Replies (3)

I am confused...

I have been going around in circles looking at all these renaming tools WizMetadataGrabber, ImageGrabLite, WizRenameRecording. etc...and I can't find any tool that I could use to grab the subtitle from the metadata.xml file and insert it into the filename for my 500 or so recorded series. When I display my recordings at least I could identify the episode by the subtitle and remove duplicates. At least now I know the episode subtitle information is in the TS file metadata. I can't believe there isn't a batch file already setup to do this (or something close to this).

NOW: Person of Interest_20120216_20002100.ts
RENAMED: Person of Interest_Blue Code_20120216.ts

From this type of XML metadata:

<recording>
<filename>G:\TVHD\Person of Interest\Person of Interest_20120216_20002100.ts</filename>
<channel>KPHO HD</channel>
<status>READY</status>
<startTime>2012-02-16 20:00:00</startTime>
<endTime>2012-02-16 21:00:00</endTime>
<title>Person of Interest</title>
<subtitle>Blue Code</subtitle>
<description>Reese infiltrates a smuggling ring in pursuit of the latest person of interest.</description>
<uid>EP014198470015</uid>
</recording>

Ultimately, I'd like to extract the valid episode information for NPVR and XBMC including thumbnails from the internet. Those that I tested so far are not matching well enough; adding the subtitle should get better matching with the various TV server databases.

Furthermore, I did some searches on the <uid> tag like "EP014198470015" and lo and behold ZAP2it has just what I'd like on their site.
Maybe, someone knows a way to access that data and have it in a useable format for NPVR or XBMC.

Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2.4.3 Crashes when scanning for channels ...
Posted by: softfoot - 2012-06-17, 08:27 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (13)

Just upgrading from 2.3.6 - terminated the running services as described and install went smoothly :-)

However, when I go into "setting" and tried to re-scan the channels it terminates after locating a few channels.

This is with Freesat on a NOVA II Plus under XP + sp3 + updates.

Any ideas ??

I have not tried installing patches as they didnt seem relavent.

I also tried deleting all the old channels - it didnt help :-(

One of the posts suggested a clean install - tried that and it didnt help.

TIA

SSPlus Screensaver - Photo Slideshow Beta
Posted by: ACTCMS - 2012-06-17, 01:52 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (40)

Jaggy and I have been working on a Photo SlideShow feature for the SSPlus Screen Saver. The beta version is now available for download (see below). It requires NPVR 2.4.3.

To have a play with it...

Download from the wiki, uncompress and run the installer, then set SSPLus as your default screensaver.
First time users should look at the SSPlus wiki page to find out how to make SSPlus your default screen saver.
Edit SSPConfig.xml in your Plugins\SSPlus dir (using notepad or similar - not wordpad) and add the following...

Code:
<slideShowStatus>False|auto|0|0|0</slideShowStatus> <slideShowCycleMode>S|S</slideShowCycleMode> <PictureLibrary extensions="^.+\.(bmp|jpg|png|tiff|tif|gif)$"> <Collection name="All"> <Directory>N:\Video Clips And Photos\Family\</Directory> <Directory>\\sbs2003\Media Stuff B\Video Clips And Photos\Scans\</Directory> </Collection> <Collection name="Holidays"> <Directory>N:\Video Clips And Photos\Family\2009-07\</Directory> <Directory>\\sbs2003\Media Stuff B\Video Clips And Photos\Scans\198907 - N0074\</Directory> </Collection> </PictureLibrary>
Change the paths in the <Directory></Directory> nodes to point to your own Photos and change the Collection name(s) as required.

You can have one or more Collection(s) each containing one or more Directory(s). Currently, SSPlus will look for photos in the specified directories and first level sub-directories.

Once SSPlus kicks in, pressing Home/Info twice within two seconds will display a context sensitive help screen showing the commands available - pressing Home/Info will clear the help screen. It is worth having a good look at the help screen(s) since they explain how to start the slideshow and once slideshow is running, how to navigate through your library. You can also see the help screens in the SSPlus skin folder.

For the moment, please post any problems (please attach your NPVR logs), comments or suggestions in this thread.

Jaggy & Alex

GetRenderList() always called with "block-extras..." element in renderlist
Posted by: alibert - 2012-06-17, 01:15 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (1)

Hi (sorry, can't edit the title),

when a plugin is shown on top of video and it is closed after pressing "Escape", why is the "Dispose()" method called, and not just the "Deacivate()" method? Are there some special things regarding memory usage to be aware of here, or could I just "recycle" all the ui elements when showing them another time in overlay or non-overlay mode?

  Unhandled exception error on playback
Posted by: StevHodge - 2012-06-16, 10:04 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

Could you experts have a look at the attached sytem error message and log files. Something has gone wrong on playback. Made some major mods to my system - including a new video card and mobo - suspect it would be that - but what it might be is beyond me. The crash moment shows at 2243 in the NPVR log, when I tried to playback a file called Birdsong. Right now I haven't re-installed the capture cards, but don't suppose it is that. There was the same behaviour when I did have them in briefly

  Backing up "Playback Position"
Posted by: Reddwarf - 2012-06-16, 12:14 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

Whenever I have to start with a fresh database I can easily get my recordings and recurring recordings back from the corresponding .xml files created by npvr when epg is updated, but I will lose the playback position of all watched recordings. Is there a quick method suitable for batch execution to back up this table so I can manually restore it?

  New Build Advice
Posted by: roy - 2012-06-16, 04:06 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (19)

I've been wanting to put together a new system to replace the first HTPC I built in 2008, to better handle the demands of HD. Been looking at components, then today the Newegg Fathers Day sale included several of the items on my wish list, so Happy Fathers Day to me. Big Grin My head is spinning from all the choices/reviews of components, so I'm hoping for some advice or comments on my selections from the experts here on this forum. This system will be in the den, for my viewing pleasure on a 20" screen, but primarily to record cable TV and serve two PCH's in the house. I'll use my existing HVR2250 and DCR2650 tuners. This is what I have in my cart:

ASRock A75 PRO4 FM1 AMD A75 Motherboard ($80)

AMD A8-3850 ($100)

G.SKILL Ripjaw 8GB DDR3 1600 ($47)

Corsair 120GB SSD ($80 AR)

Samsung 2TB HD ($100)

Pioneer BD Writer ($80)

Cooler Master GX 450W ($35 AR)

I'm not really sold on either of these cases:
Cooler Master Elite 431 ($50 AR)
Rosewill Challenger ($40)

That's about $570, plus Win7. Any bad decisions there? Is the FM1 MoBo a good way to go? Is the A8 worth it over the A6-3500 ($80). Any suggestions on a nice mid ATX case? Or tell me it's all good so I can pull the trigger. Cool

Thanks!
Roy
