TBS 6925 (S/S2 with hardware blind scan)
Posted by: Elmo Putney - 2012-02-26, 08:29 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

I would like to grab some un-encrypted channels on AB3 that are using "newtec" modulation.

This:
http://www.tbsdtv.com/products/tbs6925-d...-card.html

single tuner "professional" card can allegedly do this and has a host of extra features. I'm guessing I wont be able to tune the newtec modulation channels in NPVR which I can live with but I am more worried that perhaps it wont do the auto pilot and rolloff for normal DVB-s2 that would probably be required for NPVR S2 tuning. Does anyone have any experience of this card before I make an expensive mistake?

Newbie Questions and Set Up Advice
Posted by: zoomzoom9 - 2012-02-26, 12:06 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (5)

I did some searching but finally decided to put all my questions together to see if I could get the answers easier. A little history: I've been using DVRs for years, multiple providers, including TiVo, and decided I was tired of the monthly fees so I want to set up my own DVR. I have an IT background but have been mostly out of IT for quite a while now. I feel comfortable building my own computers, but have no idea what's good anymore.

Here's the setup I want:

  • Two HDTVs
  • Ability to record 4+ shows at once, all in HD
  • Don't want OTA, just through cable company
  • Ability to watch recordings on either TV

What exactly do I need to accomplish this? Advice on specific hardware would be appreciated. Not afraid to spend some money but would like to keep it reasonable.

Here are a few extra questions:
  • How do I set up multiple tuners, do I need a cable splitter and run multiple cords?
  • If I have to run multiple cords, do I run one from the wall to the cable box, then to the splitter, then to the PC?
  • Will I be able to switch between recordings and watching live TV without an issue? I want it to work as much like a normal DVR as possible.

Thanks!

Use both SVideo and Component on HDPVR?
Posted by: sgilani - 2012-02-25, 11:06 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

My HVR-1600 that I used for SVideo input died on me, so I thought I would use my HDPVR's SVideo input instead.. is there a way I can configure my channels such that some use the SVideo input, while others use the Component?

This way I could keep the SD content at 480i, rather than needlessly filling up disk space to have them recorded in 1080i over component..

  Recording service problem
Posted by: WKleeven - 2012-02-25, 08:44 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (65)

I am having trouble with the recording service, not recording anything, causing crashes, etc.

In the logs I see something strange, but don't know what to do with it.
I prefer not to install the 2.3.6 version at this moment, so I hope anyone can tell me how to fix this.

  System - Updated 25th February, 2012
Posted by: imilne - 2012-02-25, 11:11 AM - Forum: Community Announcements - No Replies

The System plugin provides a system overview of recordings, connected drives (including network drives), active tuners, basic hardware monitoring, and power related options.

http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Plugin.System

[ATTACH=CONFIG]33089[/ATTACH] [ATTACH=CONFIG]33090[/ATTACH]

The latest version was released on February 25th with the following changes:

- Now uses the hidden menu style rather than a button list
- Now monitors CPU, memory, and network activity
- Power options are now presented graphically
- Added a PIN entry option to restrict access to the Power options
- Added detection of updates to NPVR (changes status message at the bottom of screen to show this)
- Fixed various problems with the Update EPG option
- Major rewrite of the threading code - should be faster, use less resources, cause less problems (!)
- Settings are now stored in /Plugins/System/System.xml rather than config.xml
- The logging level can now be specified

For feedback and support, please use the System Support Thread.

This is the (new) support thread for the System plugin, which provides a system overview of recordings, connected drives (including network drives), active tuners, basic hardware monitoring, and power related options.

If posting bug reports, please ensure to include the log files from either C:\Users\Public\NPVR\Logs or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR\Logs.

  Beta: TV Listings 3.6
Posted by: alibert - 2012-02-25, 08:42 AM - Forum: TV Listings - Replies (44)

Hi,

for those of you who like to try it out and are willing to provide feedback, I've attached pre-releases of the TV Listings plugin and XmltvExtras utility. Since NPVR 2.3.6 now supports audio-, video- genre- and first-run-information from xmltv epg sources out of the box, the plugin uses these information, while the XmltvExtras utility is still used to extract the "icon" information for programmes from xmltv.

Therefore, the TV Listings.db3 database file will get updated when running the new XmltvExtras utility for the first time. Besides the binaries and the database file, there are also changes in the skin files, so you should copy them over from the attached .zip-files, too. Please backup your data first before installing the beta-versions of the plugin and utility, especially your TV Listings.db3 database in case something goes wrong.

Changelog for TV Listings:

Quote:- added TheMovieDB lookup
- fixed daymask for scheduling manual recurring recordings
- improved startup behaviour of recording panel
- added 'failure reason' for failed scheduled recordings to description string
- fixed an issue regarding start- and endtime calcualtion for manual recordings
- added option to update an existing image in \Media\Shows from the details popup
- using the stock npvr data for genre, audio-/video-descriptions and 'first run' information
- added status indicator image to indicate first-runs inside listings grid (enable/disable in skin file)
- added checkbox-selection of genres for categories popup
- added preview image for selected show details area on tv listings main screen
- taking 'WatchedKickInSeconds' from config.xml in account for playback positions

Changelog for XmltvExtras:
Quote:- stripped down functionality to only import "icon" attributes of programmes

All shows marked as "first run"
Posted by: alibert - 2012-02-25, 05:21 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Hi,

all programmes imported by my xmltv epg source are marked as "new" / "first run" / "premiere". The following gives an example of the xmltv source:

Code:
<programme start="20120222053000" stop="20120222090000" channel="ard.tvmovie.de"> <title>ZDF-Morgenmagazin</title> <desc>Frühmagazin Themen: Biikebrennen: Winter adé in Westerland Facebook-Fasten: Sieben Wochen ohne Smartphone Nach dem Donnerwetter - FC Bayern in Basel unter Druck Krebskongress: Früherkennung und Nachsorge verbessern Formel 1 - Schumi mit neuem 'Silberpfeil' auf Vettel-Jagd Politischer Aschermittwoch: Schlagabtausch der großen Parteien Moderation: Dunja Hayali, Mitri Sirin, Anja Heyde, Cherno Jobatey Zu Gast: Prof. Werner Hohenberger, Alexander Dobrindt</desc> <category>Soziales</category> <video> <aspect>16:9</aspect> </video> <audio> <stereo>Stereo</stereo> </audio> </programme>
Which aspects are taken in account by npvr to consider a show as "new"? And is "first run = true" the default for shows where the "new" state can't be determined?

Thanks.

Duplicate channels don't get extra data
Posted by: ttfitz - 2012-02-24, 11:48 PM - Forum: TV Listings - Replies (1)

I recently added the DCR-2650 cablecard tuner to my system which already had the WinTV HVR-1250 card which I use to record the clear-QAM offerings from my cable. Due to the multirecord capabilities of the HVR-1250 and my uncertainty about how tuners were allocated, I kept the QAM channels separate, using a different name but the same channel number in order to choose which tuner was to be used for those channels. For example, I have a channel 210 named "C7-QAM" on the 1250, and another channel 210 named ABCHD which is on the new DCR-2650.

It all works fine for scheduling shows, but TV Listings only shows the extra information for the DCR-2650 channels, not the QAM ones. I get the standard EPG info, correctly, for everything, I'm just missing all the extras.

Any ideas what might be happening? I don't know what sort of logs, databases, etc you might need, but let me know if I can furnish other information. Thanks.

Also, I don't know if you saw this discussion, but it does relate to the info available for scheduled recordings from TV Listings vs. TV Guide, so I thought I would pass this on to you for your consideration:

Thanks again.
