NPVR worked nicely for the last two days, now its has the same problem. This time however I have captured the error as printed by the internal server:

Now I guess I do not have to hit the CPU with a hammer to replicate the problem.
The PC was turned on 3 hours in advance of the time for the EPG update to happen which gave NPVR one hour to complete the update. When if works normally, that takes 20 minutes.
The EPG updated the first 10 or so channels, then failed.
On Win XP.
What to do now? Delete and reinstall NPVR yet again?
Maybe it will behave itself if I ignore the EPG and just do everything as manual recordings??
It does the error now each and every time I dare to click 'manage recordings'.
Run a browser remotely or locally... same thing.
Reboot and try again, same thing.
Been though this before. The only fix was remove it and reinstall with setting up all over again. Otherwise it fails forever.
I did install the latest patch to NPVR as well during the last reinstall.
I hoped that would have fixed it.
Sorry if some are so 'sensitive' to my complaints.
Bottom line, something is wrong with NPVR or SQL. I have read plenty of posts on other forums where people are still using very unpolished abandonware to simply send commands to the tuner card to record channel so and so at X time because the EPG thing will cause you to lose the recording unless everything works just perfectly, first time, every time.
They are doing that because of these strange little quirks in 'modern' PVR software that causes failed recordings.
IMO, NPVR is the best available software to do the task in a way similar to MythTV using windows.
It would be nice if was as reliable as a short function that simply accesses the card using a scheduler without any bells and whistles.
I now assume that my post will once again get closed.
I currently have a NOVA-S-PLUS card running under NPVR and am looking for a second PCI tuner.
The NOVA-S-PLUS card has served me well but I can find the older NOVA-S cards that are significantly cheaper :-)
Would NPVR support one of each in the same machine ??
I am not interested in the radio feature - only in recording FreeSat - is there any significan differences in
the h/w of the NOVA-S over the NOVA-S-PLUS ?? (eg issues/bugs/performance)
Looking at pics of the card the "voltage capability" slots in the PCI connector are different (not a problem in my system).
Since applying 2.3.6 and the R1 patches I've noticed that after pausing, when I play again, it does not start where it left off.
When watching something which is still recording, it sometimes jumps forward, sometimes backwards, by up to 10 seconds.
When watching a recording which has completed, it consistently jumps forward 5 seconds.
The logs don't show the time into the recording, so don't show anything useful.
For two days now I haven''t been able to delete any recordings. I get an unhandled exception error which looks firewall related, but I don't run a firewall and Windows one is disabled. The only recent change is the installation of the YouTube plugin but I don't think this is the cause as the issue remains after disabling that plugin. I've restarted the NPVR services and computer but this has helped. New shows are being recorded fine, the only issue seems to be deleting. Any ideas what would cause this?
My cable company is introducing whole home PVR capability and I thought that NextPVR users would like the "NextBox" name. Basically it just takes their single unit and allows you to integrate up to four of them networked via MoCA @$499 per two tuner unit w 160GB. Plus cable monthly fees
Is it really the NextBox? Hardly. My wife uses a single 2 tuner unit w 1TB of storage and here are some experiences
- every few months or so the hard disk loses all recordings, twice so far in 2012
- the box will spontaneously reboot, which takes several minutes.
- tonight I tried to watch a recording of "The Brits" and two transport streams seemed to be muxed together, making it completely unwatchable.
My favourite though is watching on demand shows. A couple of weeks ago when we lost all the programming we had to watch Fringe On Demand. The first thing it tells is is "Navigation controls are not available in this program" Commercials in a PVR yuck. We watched about 1/2 an hour and then the box crashed and we decided we will watch it the next night. Of course we had to let it play for 30 minutes to get to where we were. Then we started watching and about 15 minutes later the box said your 24 hour rental had ended and it stopped playing.
Giving up on the "NextBox", I recorded the whole thing on my STB (no PVR) via NextPVR even ran comskip for fun, and watched it via my NMT Recording OnDemand takes a bit of patience, with the remote, but other than that it just worked.
In troubleshooting this problem http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post431876 I was wondering what happens when a plugin isn't updated when structures change? The EPG objects changed quite a bit in 2.3.6 but how does NextPVR keep in sync with an outdated TVListings for scheduling using the API?
[Ok, got npvr 2.3.6 R1 running on all clients and the server can watch multiple clients at the same time and each one freezes but not at the same at random times.
Pressing paue and then play makes it carry on, but it stutters as if its just on the edge of the buffer so to speak, pressing pause again and waiting 5 seconds then pressing play makes it play fine.
Obviously we need some logs and I am guessing extra debugging info so if SUB or anyone can let me know how to enable it I can give you the full logs and information etc.
Many thanks
ok I have added reader.log and npvr.log from the client and nrecord.log from the server, it paused for 10 seconds at 7:25pm where the lip sync went very out follow by a freeze around 8pm
i have put 2.2.6 back on now but the same problem occurs these logs are from 2.2.6 with all patches
The trouble is I find it very difficult to tell if any of the video processing is being off loaded onto the GPU. Its also very difficult to find out what the various DXVA functions DXVA Checker lists mean and if they are of use to you. Can anyone point me in the direction of some useful DXVA documentation?
So far I have found useful snippets from various tutorials so know if the words âH264_VLDâ appear then it will decode H264 video. On the computer with the GeForce210 card it defaults to using ffdshow video decoder to play H264 video, but that decoder does not support DXVA. The next snippet I found was to âDisable H264 in the ffdshow video decoderâ. Using âffdshow video decoderâ to play a H264 recording on my five year old 3Ghz P4 computer the processor runs between 50% and 90% capacity. For H264 recordings it now defaults to using the âffdshow DXVA video decoderâ the processor runs at around 5%. However neither the Cyberlink or LAV video decoders seem to use DXVA as both run the processor at around 60% if its enabled or not.
On the two computers with DXVA supporting chipsets neither showed any evidence of using video acceleration even though the AMD 760G listed H264 among its functions. Most of my recordings at the moment are SD MPEG2 664 X 544 so it does not matter that acceleration is not supported as the processor runs at around 10% to 20%. Graphstudio was very useful for monitoring which decoders NextPVR is actually using and also to test render a file and try different decoders. I was surprised how often some decoder combination failed.
Thought I'd start a different thread for this one.
I seem to have watch number of shows that the rename does not work on, apparently because there are multiple series with the same name. Castle, Being Human, and Once Upon a Time all seem to get errors, or pick up the wrong data (Being Human seems to fit this latter category, it gets the BBC show by the same name for some episodes).
Is there any way to specify, if you have shows you know this is the case for, which series is the correct one?
