Having issues recording
Posted by: nainsurvolte - 2011-09-24, 12:03 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

I am new to this software. Got it installed yesterday and I am trying to set it up to record TV shows. Here is my setup

PC : Phenom 2 955 running Win7 x64 / GeForce 260GTX
Tuner: HD Homerun dual tuner 3rd generation
Public User is on C:\, software was targeted at F:\

As stated above, NextPVR is installed and I can listen to the TV signals I can get. But when I try to record I get error messages. Once I get the error message, I cannot listen to the Live TV anymore unless I restart the PC.

Also, Recording service does not start and can`t manage to get it started either through the Windows services or even with the Start NPVR services.

Here is the log I got, as you will see I tried a few time to watch live TV after my attempt to record.

Thanks in advanced.

Does anyone know what the overlapping circles symbol means in the TV Listings display?

DCR-2650 - recording service not running
Posted by: roy - 2011-09-23, 01:38 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (11)

Since I have started using the new DCR-2650 I have seen several instances where the recording service seems to lock up, causing failed recordings. It happened again last night. Logs are attached.

This morning when I checked nPVR, the tray icon was red, there was a tuner light lit on the DCR-2650, and recordings showed "The Daily Show" as in process. Previous recording "Always Sunny" did complete properly, but another recording, "Storytellers", in the middle of the night never started. Error seems to have been at the start of "Daily Show", which did create a 0 byte file.

I could tell the recording service is locked/crashed this morning when I double click the tray icon, and it does not open the tuner status. Restart the PC, then The Daily Show and Storytellers both show as failed with "recording service not available" error. EPG update did happen at 3am.

I don't see errors in the log. Is this a new USB cablecard tuner error?

Thanks

  Comskip Chapters
Posted by: dgeezer - 2011-09-23, 06:26 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (4)

I would love to see the same comskip functionality that currently exists in SageTV. Well actually in JREkiwi's Comskip Playback plugin for sagetv since sage has no native support for comskip.

When you press the right arrow key (adjacent to OK) the timeline appears and you are taken to the end of the next commercial segment and the recording continues playing from there. The left arrow takes you to the previous commercial skip point. This divides the show into chapters that are easily accessible. Also, if comskip thinks that a section in the middle of a commercial segment is part of the show, this is the easiest way to jump to the end of the commercial break. It took me month's to teach my wife and daughter to use this in sagetv, there's going to be a bunch of griping if I tell them that it doesn't work this way any more.

  Significance of NPVR-assigned channel #s?
Posted by: cncb - 2011-09-23, 03:51 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

The channel numbers in NPVR seem somewhat arbitrary for my OTA ATSC stations (seems to be in scan order). Can I change these to re-order the channels in the guide or will this mess up my scheduled recordings?

Help an old coder with a VFD
Posted by: 35mmslr - 2011-09-22, 12:52 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (8)

Hi sub & everyone.

I havent coded for 20years and back then I was doing everything in machine code & asm. However, I have decided to try and modify an old DVD case (a KISS DVP-450) for my HTPC frontend and it has a VFD on it. I have got the VFD connected up to an Arduino and I am able to construct characters on the VFD and light up the other symbols and read the case buttons.

What I am having trouble with is passing information from NPVR to the Arduino. I have looked at the examples that sub provided (test3.zip) but I just cant get my head around it. Does anyone have any good reading material or maybe some snippets of code for getting the status of npvr (e.g. now playing, channel, volume level, recording status, osd menu item highlighted etc.) that I can then use to send to the device (via usb/serial).

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

Really old hardware with HD content?
Posted by: jmontana - 2011-09-22, 11:56 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I switched from GBPVR to XP MCE a while ago, but now that I've got a new HDTV, I'm considering switching back. My issue has to do with my aging hardware. Upgrading the PC really isn't an option right now, because it's too cost prohibitive. My setup right now is a Dell Dimenson 4600 (2.4 GHz P4) with a PVR-150 for capturing analog cable, and the All-in-Wonder 9000 Radeon that came with the PC for output. I've been able to drive the HDTV in 1920x1080 mode with the AIW card.

I'd like to be able to hook up my ATSC antenna to a new Hauppauge card (maybe the 2250) and record OTA HD content. I'm sure that recording won't be an issue, what I'm wondering is whether the P4 is going to be able to keep up with the playback? I've got 768 MBs of RAM in it and it's currently running XP MCE.

I'd love to know if there's a downloadable HD sample file I could test with before committing to the 2250.

Thanks!

Current Sage User, looking for a few quick answers
Posted by: slogic - 2011-09-22, 04:22 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Hello,
I've been using SageTV since 2003, and as many of you know, that's no longer an option if you have a hardware failure. My HD-100 started occasionally entering an endless reboot cycle, and I did the capacitor fix 2 years ago so I know I'm in trouble. I thought I'd have time to read through the docs, set up a test server and go through the forums, but it looks like that won't be an option, so I hope you all don't mind me asking a few quick questions.

As aluded to above, I'm currently running a client/server setup using a HD100 for the client. I planned on migrating to NextPVR or MediaPortal, so I bought a AMD E-350 based nettop to replace the HD100 and added a SSD and loaded Windows 7 on it. That should cover me either way for a client. Glancing at the docs, it looks like you can use a ram drive for live (non-scheduled) recorded tv, is that correct? (that's a feature Sage didn't have) I take it if I'm watching something and hit record, it will copy to the harddrive and record as if it was scheduled? If I am using a ramdrive for live tv, where is the ram being used, on the server or the client? Any other consideration for a client/server setup like this? Any other tips from Sage users that have gone the NextPVR route or that you think would help make a smooth transition?

Again I apologize for asking questions I could probably search and find, but I may need to install as early as tomorrow if the HD100 dies, and with Sage being 100% reliable all these years, the WAF expectations are high, and now I have the additional time limitations of a 1 and 3 year old that don't allow me all the spare time I used to have to investigate these things. Thanks in advance for everyone's time and help in answering my questions (and understanding my predicament).

  DCR Firmware Upgrade Caution.
Posted by: mvallevand - 2011-09-22, 03:52 AM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

As a word of caution to NPVR users of the new DCR devices, I read on the SageTV forums that a recent firmware upgrade to the HDHR Prime broke SageDCT support. Users tried to downgrade firmware but the basic caution for you is

"Unfortunately the CableLabs requirements explicitly forbid downgrading of firmware. "

Fortunately SageDCT was updated. The same thing could happen to NPVR native support too, so you might want to check with the community before upgrading.
