  new graphics card
Posted by: stefan - 2011-08-04, 07:00 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (10)

Hi,

I need a recommendation for a new video card. My old one is a pcie16x one, but with humongous cooling sinks. You can barely make out the pcie1x slot below it in the picture, and there is one above it also that you can't see. Now I need to use one pcie1x slot, so I need a new video card. Could you recommend me one? The computer is only going to be used for playback of videos, so I pretty much have few requirements:

1) It needs to be able to play 1080p without problems.
2) Well, that's it, really.

I have a few more wishes, though.

1) Fanless would be nice. I have no idea if that's possible to get without cooling sinks that are in the way of the pcie1x slots?
2) Hdmi output would be nice. The tv has hdmi in and old fashioned RGB in. My current video card has dvi out only, so I'm using a dvi->rgb converter, but that uses more space behind the computer than I'm really comfortable with.
3) If I'm using hdmi out, I need the graphics card to have a sound in where I can connect my sound output, right? Or can I still connect my sound out directly to the sound in on my tv like I do today when I use the RGB input on the tv?

  .Net 2.0 and a 64 Bit OS?
Posted by: tonyimp - 2011-08-04, 01:35 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (9)

Hi all . I am running WIn7 64Bit. I try to install .net 2.0 redist and I get a forced setup exit. Basically the installer sees that I am running the 64 bit OS and will not install .net 2.0

I am simply running through the pre-reqs. My machine is current enoguh (dual core unlcoked sempron 140, 4 GB ram). Should I insall .net 4.0?
I have tried to search the forums, but I think somehting is wrong with my search. I could not find any hits using the phrase .net

Thanks in advance
Tony

all channels recurring recordings: specify time range
Posted by: johnsonx42 - 2011-08-04, 12:10 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

When I create an All Channels recurring recording, it creates a recurring recording entry with a begin and end time. However this time range is ignored - no matter what I change the time to, it still records all the episodes during any time. I'm assuming this is acting as intended, it's not exactly a bug - I gather there's a hidden flag that tells it that it's an 'any timeslot' kind of recording.

What I'd like then is a way to make an All Channels recurring recording, but have it record only episodes that occur during a range of time I set.

My current problem is some kids' shows that play a half-dozen or more times a day including a couple of 'primetime' slots. I'm happy to let it record those during the wee hours of the morning or during the day, but I don't want it recording kids' shows during the evening when I have more important things to record. I know it will eventually be possible to re-order the priorities of the recurring recordings, but even then it would be a pain to have to keep moving the kids' shows to the bottom of the list every time I want to schedule a new primetime recording.

Picture in Picture, Clear screen in Pause
Posted by: OTAjunkie - 2011-08-03, 09:24 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

I'm loving the present package. Great work!!

-Is it feasable to have "picture in picture"?

-When paused the info and timeline remains (although opaque) on screen. Could it fade as it does all other times?

Many thanks again

  Canceling Recurring Recording
Posted by: cncb - 2011-08-03, 01:45 PM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

I would request that in the popup for recurring recordings that this be changed to "Delete" instead of "Cancel" since "Cancel" is used in most other popups to simply close the popup. Also, it would be good to have a confirmation dialog like you have when deleting a recording to prevent unintended deletions.

Live TV From Client PC Issues
Posted by: cncb - 2011-08-03, 01:37 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

I am having a few problems with watching Live TV from a client PC. I am using the latest NPVR patch with Windows 7 and HDHomerun (ATSC) tuners.

1) The live .ts files are never deleted from the server so several are accumulating on disk.
2) I have had a few freezes in NPVR while watching live TV on the client. The first time I stopped the show and restarted playback and it continued fine. The second time there was an unhandled "socket connection" exception. I can provide a log but I didn't see anything at all regarding the exception in there.

Thanks.

  Retuning after digital switchover.
Posted by: JohnD - 2011-08-03, 11:51 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Today was the switchover for the Belmont transmitter - Borders and Northern England. I thought this would be simply a job of retuning. However I am unable to tune into a number of channels (BBC1; BBC2; etc) since it appears that one of the channels has now changed and GPVR is only set to scan the old channels. Is there a file with the channels to be scanned detailed in it that I can easily modify? (I'm still using GBPVR v1.3.11 - perhaps I should upgrade but it works so reliably!!)

  Multiple tuners woes
Posted by: OTAjunkie - 2011-08-02, 10:50 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

If I schedule a recording on a digital channel and I'm watching another digital channel as it starts my live TV hangs. I have to use Ctrl+Alt+del to end program. The recording procceeds.
I wanted to see the status of my tuners so I set a schedule and watched live with the "status" window open. Well the recording began and live TV continued uninterupted. Thinking I had the problem licked I closed the status window. Live TV is now frozen. I'm gonna wait half an hour for the recording to finish.
I can record 3 digital programs no problem (ATI 650, Haup 2250). I've got 2.1.5 + patches.
What can I do?
