  MCE vs NPVR---Night and Day
Posted by: soccerdad - 2011-08-06, 07:22 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

I have been getting ready for my new Cablecard tuner. To hedge my bets, I updated to W7 32bit from Vista 64 bit. The installation went smooth as silk and I was up and running minutes after 7 installed. I had kept my old npvr folder with the settings and just did a new npvr install and dropped the old folder on top of it and I got all of my settings, epg, scripts, etc back. I had to install AC3, but that was the only filter I had to get. The rest was just stock windows decoder stuff.

Then I decided to look at 7's media center since I am afraid that I might need it for some broadcast flag trouble. I have not looked at it in years. The setup seemed easy enough. Added my epg, it found my tuners correctly and then the wheels fell off. It scans for clear QAM channels, finds them, then for some dumb reason they dissappear. Obviously it is dumping them for some reason, but who knows why. Then I tried adding them manually, and MCE say there is no signal on the channel. No way to trouble shoot, just tough, it is not there. Obviously it is since I get flawless tv off my clear QAM channels in NPVR. I hope the new cablecard tuner fares better....

Thanks sub for making it so easy. sometimes I take your awsome program for granted. MCE is like walking down a dark alley with handcuffs on. I reallllllllly hope my main cable channels are not flagged copy once. If it is too bad, then I might have to head to an HD-PVR.

  Recording live TV programs
Posted by: a_edwall - 2011-08-06, 07:13 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (52)

Somehow I started recording a live TV show. Now how do I stop recording? Nothing seems to stop it. Thank you.

  Crash while scrolling through videos
Posted by: shaunpatrick77 - 2011-08-06, 03:23 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (18)

Hi Guys

I'm getting a reproduceable crash while scrolling through dvd folders. If scroll left fast I seem to hit an unhandled exception when the scrolling hits the end of its travel, so to speak.

Can't find any recent patches related to this issue so logs and crash dialog box attached if anyones curious.

Cheers.

NextPVR tuner plugin - User testing
Posted by: mvallevand - 2011-08-05, 11:22 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (29)

Are there any NPVR or GBPVR users with r5000 devices or firewire tuning on their cable STB who want to help test a tuner plugin I am working on right now? Using the tuner plugin support sub added for 2.1.4/5 I am basically now able to control tuning devices that support the SageTV Universal Network Encoder protocol . I am testing it with firewire from my STB and it is working pretty well with the Sage Graph Recorder http://www.nolberger.se/Sage/GraphRecorder/ working much like the older GBPVR Graph Recorder plugin.

Hmmm, I'm not sure what to make of this http://blogs.forbes.com/ericsavitz/2011/...r=yahootix

I wonder what this means for WMC?

Any way to share a tuner over the network or watch live tv on a different PC?
Posted by: russr1123 - 2011-08-05, 04:09 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (14)

Is there a way to share the tv tuner card that is in my desktop over the network so that my laptop can use it? What i'd like to do is to be able to watch live tv on my laptop using NPVR. If it is not possible to share the tv tuner card over the network, is there a way to set up the desktop as a server and then my laptop as a client? The end goal is really to watch live tv on the laptop.

I looked at this: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Manual.NEWA, but that only allows me to schedule recordings and watch them...there's no live tv option there.

Thanks.

Problem with video lag when using analog capture source.
Posted by: russr1123 - 2011-08-05, 03:50 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (7)

I have an ATI HD TV Wonder 650 PCI card. In addition to a ATSC tuner and a QAM tuner, it also has an analog capture port with composite and s-video connectors. I set up the analog capture sources last night using the methods here:http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ugeSoftPVR and here: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...alogDevice.

I got NPVR to detect the ATI AVStream Analog Capture no problem and when I configured the input sources, i was able to see video. I hooked up my video camera to the analog inputs as a test and while I saw the video, it was lagged by several seconds (maybe 5). So if I repositioned the camera to look at something else, I would see the change I made in NPVR 5 seconds later. I don't know if this is because of the live buffer or not, but I would like to be able not have this lag at all. If I hook up a vcr to this, it is very annoying. I have tested this with other software (ATI Catalyst media center) and there is no lag there. The problem is that particular software from ATI is very old and only works on XP.

Any ideas on this? Please let me know if I need to provide my AnalogDevices.xml file.

Thanks

Any settings the Live TV Buffer?
Posted by: russr1123 - 2011-08-05, 03:41 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

Aside from controlling which directory live tv streams are stored in, are there any other settings we can control? I would love to be able to:
1) Control how big (file size) or how long (minutes), the live buffer can be.
2) Turn live buffer off (very useful for analog composite and s-video capturing where live buffer doesn't make sense).
3) Control how often the files in this directory are emptied. This obviously is easily done myself with a scheduled task, but the top two ones have no workaround.

Thanks

Need some help with a satellite installation
Posted by: JP23 - 2011-08-05, 02:31 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi,

I've been asked to set up NPVR on a spare machine in my office using an old Hauppauge Nova s card.
We have a satellite on the roof with several lnb's connected to a 3 way diseqc switch (or so I'm told), but no-one seems to know which satellites they are set up for.

My expereince with DVB-S is limited, and I've never encountered diseqc before, so I'm not sure how to proceed.

Does anyone know of any way of finding out what to scan for, preferably without getting on the roof?

Lineup Change Alert - QAM Scan Notifier
Posted by: wtg - 2011-08-04, 04:35 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (2)

HDHomeRun users: Below is a program I use to notify me via email when when my cable provider's QAM lineup changes and I thought others might be interested in it. Probably not of much use to an ATSC user and I'm not sure about dvbt and dvbc users.

The script works by running the HDHomeRun's command line scan utility (hdhomerun_config.exe) to get the list of current unencrypted channels, reformats the data for processing and compares the current results to the previous run's output. If any changes are detected, it emails you.

Here's an example of what an email looks like when a new channel is discovered and a couple disappear from the line-up (a screenshot from my phone).

Instructions for setup are included in the attached zip file. Let me know if you find the script useful. I've had it running for about 2 years and as annoying as it is to have lineup changes, it's at least nice to know about them before you lose a week of scheduled recordings.

If you have any ideas yourself on how to improve it, by all means share them.
Tim
