Hi all. I've been using NPVR for some time now, but I've recently been having a problem where scheduled recordings seem start, but don't actually write to disk. I've attached two sample logs from this evening. The failed log shows an attempt to start recording on 02/21 18:59:00. I was watching the .ts files on disk and noticed they were not growing in size, so I restarted the recording service from the NPVR tray. The second log is from the restart, which successfully recorded at 02/21 19:00:04. I was surprise to see that the two log entries are quite different. The failed session has a "Starting graph..." entry as the third line, and the successful session has "Creating BDA graph". There are quite a few difference in the subsequent log entries as well. Much earlier in the failed recording log (prior day), there was a successful recording 02/20 14:32:40.245 which matches with the successful restart entries. It almost seems it's losing track of the tuner status or forgetting to tune the channels. Any help or fix possible for this?
Sub added support for the Dvico QAM device in a much earlier release of NPVR, and this is all running on Windows 7 home premium. I think I'm up to date on all the patches.
I don't know if it is possible but I'd like to see more options for configuring tuner priorities and also channels on a tuner as HD/SD
For my local broadcasts I have many options of recording or watching the same show
1 - cable SD analog tuner or OTA SD NTSC (not used dead in August)
2 - cable SD analog HDPVR
3 - cable HD analog HDPVR
4 - OTA HD ATSC
Rather than mapping these to 4 EPG channels like I do now, I like to see one EPG entry, but I'd like to be able to select recording HD or SD. I would also like to be able to set the priority for recordings based on either size or quality not just one device priority.
I could then ask for Best Quality or Lowest Size as one setting and Any Tuner, HD Tuner, SD Tuner as another option.
Here is my suggestion for the priorities
Quality order ATSC QAM-HD HDPVR-HD QAM-SD HDPVR-SD NTSC
Size order HDPVR-SD QAM-SD NTSC HDPVR-HD QAM-HD ATSC
For LiveTV, I would always like the Best Quality with a no-tuner available message bouncing me when applicable.
If i take a DVD, get the whole of the VIDEO_TS folder, put this on PVR server in video so it looks like:
:/MOVIE/VIDEO_TS
In NPVR i see a folder called "MOVIE" then inside there i see "MOVIE dvd", when i select this on the PC it plays, everything is happy.
Same menu structure on MVP however it doesnt play (no screen either, just doesnt do anything when selecting "MOVIE dvd"... any settings i am missing (first time ive tried this).
So, I'm just in the process of moving from gbpvr to npvr and sorting some hiccups out (somehow managed to kill my Hauppauge remote after replacing my 2x Nova 250s with one 500!). To feed the monster, I should have a new copy of Win7 Pro with me in a couple of days. In anticipation of that, are there any things I should know about using nPVR with Windows 7? Anything I should tweak regarding UAC or compatibility mode? Anything I should run as admin?
This seems like a nice idea, however as the new server is in the root of the main web server on port 8866 it can no longer be proxy to anywhere without some major MODProxy header re-writes, which are a pain and can sometimes create a nightmare with broken references in pages.
While a server sits inside a virtual container (which was gbpvr/) any proxy control was nice and easy, however while its in the root this means any proxy control breaks everything (such as the promise raid controller server, OWA, backup server) as all the above have a "virtual directory" like /owa and /promise and /myrestore.
This by design was to allow proxy control of the servers, they can all be proxy controlled from one port. However as NPVR looks for everything in the root, no matter which service i need to obtain i get a login for NPVR or file not found (as /owa is not in the NPVR virtual directory).
Is there a way of placing the NPVR webserver inside a virtual container in its own server (like it used to be with GBPVR, now this deos mean you can still redirect the root of 8866 to this container and means it can then be proxy controlled), otherwise i cant see it outside the firewall (without some header re-wrties as it wanders through the proxy server, which i can do, however is bound to break the odd page as every reference needs to be re-written before its passed to the client).

I've been a longtime user of GB-PVR. But times are a-changing, we got fibre-to-the-home with unencrypted dvb-c, and Windows 7. :o
Had my setup with the tuners of the Hauppauge PVR-350 and PVR-150 running smoothly under Vista-32. Now I run Win7-32 (because the tuners are not supported under Win7-64).
Also got my Technotrend DVB-c card working as multidec (big pain, until you find the ffdecsa.dll posted by sub on the forum, other versions do not work).
And yesterday I had all three cards working together. But after a reboot it all broke down. :eek:

Huh? :confused: There is no source on the composite input, it was, and should be the tuner! After deleting all channels and reimporting from the EPG that is solved (hope it lasts). The PVR-150 works fine now.
Question: would be nice to be able to hard edit the config files to change composite to tuner.
But the PVR-350 seems to be lost in space. I like that card, because it gives a much better picture than the PVR-150. I ordered a second Technotrend card, and want to retire the PVR-150, and keep the PVR-350 for backup. It worked fine yesterday...
I get the same problems now as other users reported:
Yesterday it all worked, but now I tried every permutation. Only PVR-350, Technotrend with PVR-350, all three cards, etc. But now only Technotrend with PVR-150 works for the moment. Filtercheck finds both cards.
Btw, the "Enable" checkbox in the Devices setup works fine, only it does not show the state. It always shows "Enabled". If you want to disable a card: uncheck. If you want to re-enable a disabled card uncheck, and then check again. Works fine here.
Another note: some users can not get their analogue cards to work. In GB-PVR European users could use megahertz frequencies, like 176000000 . But in NPVR you have to use Microsoft's TVAutoTune registry edit for every channel. Otherwise the recording fails (without any message why). If you use the MC2XML EPG service, you may get a channel numbered 301. Make an entry under number 301 referring to the corresponding frequency. This info was not on the forum yet, so I added it here to show a) this is not a problem causing the PVR-350 to fail, and b) enabling others with Google to find it as solution to a problem I already solved.
In gbpvr there was a utility to learn these, at least the numbers.
I used the old profile for npvr, but What do I do to make a new one in NPVR? Do I need to reinstall gbpvr for this?
Just wanted to say thanks for developing this software. I've been using the Hauppage software for about a year now and have been waiting for something to come along that was better, and didn't cost 100 bucks or more. Well, I found the answer and was able to download and get it running without too much trouble.
NextPVR runs great on my Hauppage 2250 tuner card - 2 Analog and 2 Digital tuners.
NextPVR has no problems recording two programs at the same time.
Post processing is done using the 64 bit version of ffmpeg, and can convert .ts to .avi quickly using 2 of the 6 cores on the processor.
I was unable, to this point, to get Comclean working. It seems Comskip works fine, but I've tried 3 versions of Comclean, and none would work for me, and after 6 hours or so I've given up.
Just being able to automatically convert these files to .avi has been a great help, so I'm a happy camper.
Thanks again, and after I become a regular user of the product, I do plan to donate.

Here's the background:
I've been advocating Windows 7 EVR with the Microsoft decoders as the default working setup for North America. So, I thought I'd try it on a old, lower power system (cheapo ECS MB, Sempron 2800, Radeon 9600Pro) to see what it could do. After a clean install of 7 and NPVR, I could play MPEG2 HD (PS or TS or dvr-ms NPVR or GBPVR recordings) smoothly at about 30% CPU with the MS video decoder/EVR and AC3 filter, which I thought was pretty good. (I had ditched this system when we got HD as it could barely handle it with XP and VMR9 FSE.)
I have never had success with ffdshow, but thought I'd try it again on 7 to see how it compared to the MS decoder. So, I installed ffdshow beta 7 and it was terrible - near 100% CPU and choppy video and async audio. (I used the pBS recommended settings - NV12, interlace flag, etc.) I set NPVR back to the MS decoder, and, voila, I now had choppy video with the MS decoder. Uninstalling ffdshow did not help.
Research with Task Manager, Resource Monitor and Process Explorer reveals the following:
NPVR process is using about 20% CPU (same as before the ffdshow fiasco); System process is using about 25%.
System is writing about 1.3 MB/sec to the disk, NPVR is reading about the same! WTF?
The thread/module in System process that is using the CPU is dxgmms1.sys
When I play the same file in WMP, it (WMP) uses about 27% CPU and System uses 1%, so the dxgmms1.sys problem is gone, and it's reasonably smooth.
I've reinstalled the ATI drivers (no help), re-installed the DirectX runtime and finally went back to a restore point before the ffdshow install (still no help).
The issue I am having now is, while playing the recordings the computer will freeze/lockup and I have to reboot the computer. I have attached the logs, although it gave me a warning while zipping. I was watching Crminial Minds, recorded from 13.1 CBS. I have tried installing the DVBfix and I adjusted the bitrate to 650000, nothing seems to help. I would appreciate any advice.
