  Music navigation, display and playing
Posted by: IanJ - 2010-10-16, 12:35 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

Hi all,

When browsing & playing music I'd like to play a new MP3 even if there is one being played at the moment just by navigating to it and pressing OK, rather than having to press STOP first.

Also, can the highlighted MP3 follow the current song being played, it currently sits at the 1st song played and is a little confusing to some folks especially when the current song is displayed separately on the screen also.

Now, there may be a conflict of interests if you implement BOTH the above, so perhaps the current being played could be highlighted one colour, and the current navigation being another.

............Just trying to make things easier for the wife! Smile

  nrecord.exe needs access to internet
Posted by: Jerome - 2010-10-16, 03:28 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

Ok...while trying to solve another problem I noticed a lot of internet activity. Concerned because I had given nrecord.exe the right to access a dns server earlier I shut it down in a client machine and a server machine. Internet activity immediately stopped on both machines. Any idea why nrecord.exe would need continuous access to the internet?

v.1.5.33 dies unexpectedly when beginning playing recording on PCH
Posted by: BrettB - 2010-10-16, 01:32 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (41)

I upgraded to v. 1.5.33 earlier today. It has been working fairly well.

But I just had a problem when I tried to play a recording of Chuck on the PCH. NPVR seemed to be starting to play the video, but then it died unexpectedly and mvpmxc2 on the PCH also shutdown.

Looking in the mvp.log.1 file, I see the following which looks "odd":

Code:

I'm attaching all of the log files.

I don't think that there is a problem with the recording itself because when I restarted NPVR on the PCH, and went back in to play the same recording, it started just fine. (You should be able to see that in the mvp.log file.)

  N-PVR v 1.5.33 & mvpmc npvr.dongle
Posted by: steeb - 2010-10-16, 01:09 AM - Forum: MVPMC dongle - Replies (30)

I'll try this again Big Grin

Checked that the correct dongle was being loaded onto MVP with go go back RC command and then about mvpmc selected -

Mon Sep 20 23:15:26 EDT 2010

(Noted: during this that every now and then just with mvpmc screen up the feed will jump to black for 1/2 second to 1 seconds or so)

Boot back to N-PVR

N-PVR GUI on MVP

If Main Menu is just left, once again intermittent black screen 1/2 second to 1 second.

LiveTV black screen after about 25 secs of LiveTV for 25 frames approx (but this even happens just viewing MVP in set up mode anyway and N-PVR Menu so NOT just TV related?)

Any ideas Big Grin

Cheers

Web Server Windows XP install error i.e. Folders for Win 7 not found
Posted by: Jerome - 2010-10-15, 10:31 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (16)

When I installed NPVR I received several errors related to folder not found.

Didn't think much of it until I tried to enable web server.

Did some searching and... I think the problem is it is trying to install to Windows 7 standard public shared folders.

I think I can work around this if someone can tell me the install location of the npvr.db3 file.

*** EDIT **** Found the post from last night "C:\Users\Public\NPVR\" in http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...s-NPVR.DB3

Will try work around and post back what happens. **** EDIT **** this fixed the install errors.

A future fix for NPVR would be to create the folders if they are not found during the install.

Did not fix Server/Client problem.

****EDIT**** Client machine has no reference to npvr.db3 file in the registry. Server machine found one npvr.db3 file in reg. under Search Assistant, acmru, 5603. Still need help. When I start client...error "server database not found"

Thanks

NPVR 1.5.33 - Music - problems, questions, suggestions
Posted by: mcfly - 2010-10-15, 06:43 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (5)

I'm trying hard to move completely to NPVR and eliminate my reliance on GB-PVR - I'm almost there, but ML2 was one of the key functions I depended on, since it enables music playback from the family room via an NMT. I've put NPVR 1.5.33 through its paces, focusing on the Music function, and found a few issues:

Problem: The Play key (Ctrl-P, or Play button on the NMT) now queues tracks to the playlist, instead of replacing the current playlist. But, when it's pressed halfway through a list of tracks, it queues all the tracks from that point on. i.e. if I'm browsing a directory that contains 30 tracks, and I want to queue just the 5th track, pressing Play when the 5th track is highlighted will add tracks 5-30 to the playlist. I can find no way to queue just the single highlighted track.

If you press Play while a directory is highlighted, the entire directory is queued - this makes sense, and would seem to be the right way to queue many files. But there should be a way to queue just one track when you're browsing a list of tracks.

Problem: Pressing Play when the "folder-up" line in a list of tracks is highlighted causes absolutely comical behavior - you've got to try it to believe it. On the NMT it crashes mvpmcx2, but on the PC it causes NPVR to find and play every .WAV file on the PC, in sequence - it took 5 minutes to play all the various WAV file sounds it found. Amusing, but most certainly a bug of some sort...

Problem: There are problems in playing back pre-created playlists. Specifically, if the playlist contains more than one track, it doesn't play back at all. Playlists with a single track work fine. I tried paring playlists back to a single line for each track, with a fully-qualified path name accessible by NPVR, but can't get it to play any playlist with more than one track in it.

Problem: although I realized it probably wouldn't be a good idea to try this, deleting the currently-playing track from the playlist throws an exception "Index was out of range".

Question: this is true of may be more of a general NMT remote question than anything specific to the Music library, but navigating the music library from the NMT is a challenge. There is no page-up or page-down function on the NMT remote. There is fast-forward and rewind, which have no effect - can I map those to page-up and page-down and thereby move through a long list a page at a time? Can I somehow map the red/green/blue/yellow buttons to be able to do this? I've tried some things in keymapping.xml but haven't been able to get it working.

Suggestion: on the subject of navigation, even having page-up and page-down as the only ways of navigating a long list of folders/tracks gets cumbersome. I've got hundreds of music directories. Can the 0-9 keys be mapped to jump around in a list, i.e. the 0 key goes to the top, the 1 key goes 10% of the way through the list, the 9 key goes 90%, etc? That would be an improvement, i think.

Thanks for another great release!

  Upgrade advice
Posted by: Clanky - 2010-10-15, 10:33 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

Hi all, I've not posted hear for a long time.

I'm still running GBPVR 1.4.7 on XP with 2 Nova-T cards.
I'm going to upgrade to Win 7 & NPVR next week & want to check a few things.

I'll use a new hd & a new Window 7 installation. I intend to install 64bit with 6GB ram. Are there any problems I should watch out for & will the Nova-T cards work fine with 64bit?

Can I import all my old recordings via recording-dump.xml.

I hope this goes ok or I'll get a lot of ear ache from the wife & kids Smile

Unable to play .m2ts video files in latest version of NPVR 1.5.33
Posted by: Blue Racer - 2010-10-15, 09:40 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

I tried to play one of my m2ts files which is in a network share. It still won't play the video, it just bounces you back out to the pch menu. However it does work when the m2ts video file is on the C: Drive. Is there a way to get it to work on the network share?

  Encrypted QAM channels
Posted by: Wolfeh - 2010-10-15, 07:54 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

Keeping it simple, a few months ago, Comcast switched things some so that some of the basic channels are now encrypted. So I'm looking for something that will decode the encrypted channels (legally) without the need for special equipment from the company. I'm aware of 'cablecards' which the cable company would then authorize (activate, whatever) so that it can properly decode the stations, I'm just at a loss for what PC cards can do it. I'm also wondering about TV's that can do this as well.

  TV Guide

Is there any way to remove channels from the TV Guide that don't have any EPG data, like any with EPG source set to "none"?

Edit: I guess if I wanted to record one of them I would have to have it listed.. so maybe I don't want this...
