  Silver - New skin for nPVR
Posted by: 7ore - 2010-09-28, 06:03 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (14)

Note: This skin is discontinued and do not support NPVR 2.0.

This is my first stumblin' steps to do skin. It is based on Hairys Wave skin (thank you for letting me do this!), but it have started to evolve on its own as well.

I have a lot of things on my todo list still, so this is work in progress.
So look at it, comment, find bugs and tel me of enhancements you wish to see.

To install it, just unpack the zip in the "Users\Public\NPVR\Skin" folder and select Silver in the settings.
More info and images can be found here:

  Hauppauge HVR-900H 111xxx Config Problem
Posted by: ssfur - 2010-09-28, 03:57 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

Hi

After lots and lots of searching I'm at a bit of a loss.....

I've got a hauppauge HVR-900H (USB stick version 111xxx) and gbpvr 1.4.7 running under XP SP3.
The hauppauge WinTV 7 app works fine and shows up all digital channels etc.

However when I installed gbpvr 1.4.7 and ran config and went to the capture sources setup it didn't detect the card (USB stick) at all.
I manually selected the HVR-900H entry and tried to do an EPG map but that said it failed to start the BDA driver (not found).

So after reading lots of helpful info on these forums I tried FilterCheck.exe and took a look at what it says. It says the HVR-900H is actually a "Hauppauge Cx23100". There are very few references to such a device anywhere I can find.

So some more hunting and found http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardw...aptureCard which explains how to add a new card. So I create a new bda.ini entry:

[Hauppauge Cx23100]
TUNING_TYPE=DVB-T
FILTER_TUNER=Hauppauge Cx23100 BDA Tuner
FILTER_CAPTURE=Hauppauge Cx23100 TS Capture
PIN_TUNER_IN=Input0
PIN_TUNER_OUT=MPEG2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=Input0
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=MPEG2 Transport

So now in config|capture sources I add this new card and it likes it a bit better - the EPG map doesn't create an error but unfortuantly nor does it actually find any channels.

So that's where I am - I've added a new entry to bda.ini and can now scan for channels but none are found. (WinTV 7 finds all the channels fine)

I attach filtercheck.log & config.exe.log for reference.

Any thoughts much appreciated....

Thanks

  Client devices missing
Posted by: trummel - 2010-09-28, 10:49 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

One of my N-PVR clients has lost the ability to use the server devices. When I try to watch a live program from the guide, it says "Unable to find available capture devices" and in settings the devices list is empty. Other clients are fine, this one used to work. I've uninstalled, removed the /users/public/npvr folder and reinstalled, still the same. Recorded programs and Guide listings show up just fine.

Any suggestions what I need to fix anyone?

  Videos Menu - Poor Network Behavior (Unhandled Exception)
Posted by: Lao Pan - 2010-09-28, 06:20 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (14)

This is only a minor problem.

In "Videos" I have a folder on a network share.
If the other computer is off or falls asleep, it takes about 20 seconds to access the Videos Menu - either from the main Menu or reversing out from another local folder.
If I try to access the network folder while the other computer is off-line it generates an unhandled exception error - path is invalid.

Obviously this is correct, - but could it be handled more gracefully? (There is not this problem with off-line external hard drives)
Or should I be mapping the network drive instead?

  Dropped frames / messed-up time codes ?
Posted by: jch - 2010-09-27, 04:05 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

My old rig (see footer) recorded flawlessly (as .avi's).

My new rig (see footer too) is more than twice as powerful, but consistently messes up recordings (as .mpg's):

  • dropped frames occur--losing ~5 seconds at a time, several times during an hour-long recording
  • even worse, the time-codes get messed up--a 60-minute recording will get listed as, say, 10 minutes long with the time-code restarting at zero several times during the show

This happens on about 1/2 of my new recordings.

Because of this, I can't fast-forward or rewind through them. Comskip also can't handle them.

Both rigs use the same IDE HDDs, and show that they are running in Ultra DMA Mode 5.

The HDDs on the new rig share a disk cable (Primary channel: master & slave). The CD-ROM drive is alone on the other disk cable (Secondary channel) as it runs much slower (Ultra DMA Mode 2). The system & swapfile partitions are on the Master HDD. The recording are being made onto the Slave HDD.

CPU usage is <5% during recordings. I don't know whether it's momentarily peaking at 100% during recordings or whether it's an I/O bottleneck issue.

Questions:
  1. Is there a log file that may help diagnose the problem?
  2. Is there a way to change the type of recording format to something more robust? (.ts?)

Thanks for any help you can offer!

  Is this a good long-term setup?
Posted by: Atrus - 2010-09-27, 04:00 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

Hi all - curious to know if this is a good long-term setup for me: Newegg Combo

I'm looking for something that'll stream media (for example, NBC.com) and will handle HD/Blu Ray appropriately when I eventually upgrade my TV/cable service in the future? If not, any recommendations of a cost-effective PC that'll handle these items?

I am currently rockin' a 32" "tube" TV - eventually will upgrade to a LCD. Currently not running Blu-Ray or HD Cable - just analog. If I am dropping the cash on a new system though, I want to make sure it's powerful enough to support me for quite a while.

  Recoding advice
Posted by: BigMoose - 2010-09-27, 02:36 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

After cutting back on shelf space and buying an additional 1.5Tb of disk space, I am converting a load of DVDs etc to video files on the PVR. So far I have been using Handbreak to convert them to H264 while keeping the DTS/AC3 audio (use spdif to an external amp that does DD/DTS so dont want to lose those audio tracks). All works well, except I have a habit of arsing up the aspect ratio. Setting the aspect option to "none" seems to do the trick.

What about Blurays? I dont have many but have absolutely no idea what to do with them. I can rip them fine using AnyDVD but am then left with ~38Gb of loveliness. Is there a tool to keep only the main movie, convert to a video file that'll play (e.g. .mkv) and lose the crap you dont want? I've got one that fails the trick of "picking the longest feature" to determine the main movie as that gives the directors commentary... Any googling I've done on the matter comes up with similar quality looking tools to those that advertise here Rolleyes
