  What are your skin preferences?
Posted by: Hairy - 2010-09-27, 01:17 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (22)

Up until now, for the skins I've been part of, I've been trying my best to second guess what might work the best - for the most number of a people.

I thought it would be worth asking for your personal skin preferences. I'm interested in hearing from folks with 16:9/HD displays (i.e. 32" plus - HD - flat-screen TV, viewed from a reasonable distance). If you could simply answer a or b to the following numbered questions, that would be appreciated:

  1. Is your preference in backgrounds a) Bright colourful or b) darker more mono-chromatic
  2. Is it important to have a) an overscan border or b) no overscan (1:1 pixel mapping) and fit more on screen
  3. Do you prefer your default text to be a) larger or b) smaller (for example Wave started with 11pt text and is now 12.5pt)
  4. Do you prefer a) high contrast between text and background or b) more subtle contrast (e.g. use yellow text for titles vs Waves' use of blue)
  5. Should preference be given to a) number of TV channels in listings or b) larger show descriptions
  6. Should preference be given to a) show subtitle or b) show description
  7. Should preference be given to a) long file titles or b) descriptions and artwork
  8. Should preference be given to a) Bold text styles or b) Plain text styles (more specifically in titles and subtitles)
Cheers

Getting black screen when I play recordings
Posted by: dalokgawd - 2010-09-27, 12:32 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (11)

When I play recordings (or live tv for that matter) on my GBPVR 1.47 I get nothing but a black screen. I can hear the sound, but there's no picture whatsoever. I have been thinking about just reinstalling the software but I am not sure if I will lose all my saved recordings if I do so.

If anyone could let me know either if they have an idea how to fix the black screen problem or whether a reinstall would delete my old recordings I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

  MS DTV-DVD Black screen
Posted by: trummel - 2010-09-27, 11:34 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (6)

I've been using the Cyberlink PDVD10 decoder to play BBC-HD h.264 recordings, but noticed they tended to be a bit jerky (dropped frames?). I tried using MPC to play the same files and they were definately smoother. Looking at the original PDVD graph, I noticed that the average frame rate was only about 16. Whereas MPC was hitting 50.

When I looked at the graphs, I noticed that the MPC was using the MS DTV-DVD filter. However when I change to that in N-PVR (and in GBPVR) I just get a black screen, although the graph shows everything is loaded.

I notice from the forum that other people are succesfully using the MS-DTV filter. Any suggestions where to go next? npvr log attached.

This is on a D525 Atom/Ion2, W7P client running a locally stored copy of the H.264 BBC HD recording.
The recording plays fine on a PCH.

  .TP file support?
Posted by: djphatjive - 2010-09-27, 03:05 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

I have Beyond TV for recording programs. I want to use Nextpvr/gbpvr to use in a different room to use as a extender as such. It works great for .avi and .mpg but my .TP tiles don't show up in the shows list. But if I pick the .TP file to play it in the open file dialog then it plays fine. Is there any way to add the .TP extension as a supported file type. I have played 4 of my shows and all of them played fine.

Thanks.

  external hard drive
Posted by: chewy747 - 2010-09-27, 01:25 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

can anyone give me some guidance about using an external usb hard drive to record tv shows directly to? I have been using an internal drive and now it is starting to get constant disk errors and I think it is kicking the bucket. I dont want there to be lag issue due to being usb instead of sata or ide. Also can anyone recommend a 500gb or 1tb drive less than $50? thanks for any tips!

NEWA / NPVR - Channel Icons
Posted by: majortom999 - 2010-09-26, 03:31 PM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (15)

Where do we put the channel icons for NEWA / NPVR?

In Gbpvr they went in ../Devnz/Gbpvr/media/ChannelLogos

In Npvr (Win 7) I tried putting them in /Users/Public/Npvr/media/Channels
But they don't seem to show up in the guide yet.

Have set NEWA's config to display text & Icons..
I must be missin sumthin simple..

  UpdateEPG.bat not being executed
Posted by: DrSoftware - 2010-09-26, 05:46 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

i created an UpdateEPG.bat and put it into c:\users\public\npvr\scripts. but it never gets called by NextPVR. Here's the contents of my batch file:

cd ..\epg
wget http://nzepg.org/freeview.xml.gz
gzip -d -q -f freeview.xml.gz
date /t >> log.txt
time /t >> log.txt

both wget.exe and gzip.exe are in the EPG directory.

If I start up NextPVR go to settins/channels and click Update EPG, it reloads freeview.xml from the EPG directory but doesn't execute updateepg.bat.

Log file attached.

  Annoying Choppy Audio
Posted by: banders5144 - 2010-09-25, 03:11 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (67)

Running latest release of NPVR on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit. Have a pretty high end system (Core i7, nvidia 460, Creative Labs Xfi sound card) but the audio playback for live TV is so inconsistent. Sometimes it will never skip and other times it makes watching TV unbearable. Any reason why this may be happening?

Anyone using FFdshow DXVA in GBPVR on XP?
Posted by: Pob - 2010-09-25, 02:54 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

1 PC still on XP. Installed one of the ffdhshow nightly builds with DXVA.
When played in media player any H264 MKV, or GBPVR HD recording, the ffdshow DXVA icon appears in task bar and CPU load is <10%.
But in GBPVR any HD recordings or live HDTV, ffdhow DXVA is not being used (even though in config H264 decoder is set to ffdhow DXVA). It falls back to a software only decoder.
MKV's behave differently - the ffdhsow DXVA icon does appear, but the video stays stuck on the first frame, only the audio progresses.
I tried different renderers and found that MKV's do play properly if overlay is used, but even in overlay HDTV or recordings result in black screen.
I never did have any luck getting DXVA to work in GBPVR on XP - so just wondered if anyone has? BTW the video card is an ATI 3450.
