I'm starting a thread for questions about new features [or lack thereof] of new release.
Get to them when you can Sub, troubleshooting will need more immediate attention..
First one from me, is there a client mode? if not, is one planned? [for livetv,control of main unit]
How about FSE mode? [or is it automatic when going fullscreen?]
lots of cards depend on it in xp at least..
i also see no info in vid library on shows that have them in file:metadata
is there a key reference?
what is required besides having SoftMCE files registered for analog? any setup needed?
and no support for hardware encoders anymore? even those with .ts output ability built-in?

Firstly a big thank you for the work on the latest version - I guess the prospect of a deluge of queries & bug reporting must be a nightmare. Hopefully all the users will be patient and grateful.
I'm obliged to make a donation - it's just not fair to take so much for free and for granted!
Anyhow, just a quick query please;
I've been hanging onto two Pinnacle / Hauppauge 4000i PCTV Dual Sat Pro PCI cards, each with dual tuners, but not yet installed in my XP machine.
The last version of GB-PVR of course did not natively support these but I seem to recall in January you saying that you hoped the new version would work with these cards.
Before I get too excited and change both hardware & software at once can you please advise whether these cards are now supported? (It may save me chasing my tail if detection & scanning are still an issue.)
Fingers crossed - I'm hoping that this version is the solution to my HD Freesat objectives
You mention that GBPVR and NPVR can coexist on the same machine. I assume that it just requires that we don't have both programs trying to record at the same time from the same tuner cards.
You mention that analog programs will be stored in .ts files. I assume this means that once the analog capture card has completed writing the file to disk in mpg format a software transcoding will be performed to change the format. Is this the case or will the re-encoding be performed while the program is being captured?
What about the files of already recorded programs. I have approximately 500GB of recorded programs, most of them analog but a growing number of them are .ts format. Do they need to all be re-encoded into .ts format? When would this be done? During installation? when the file is recalled for playback? at some other time?
My MVP's have been working great for quite some time. However, just recently they decided to NOT display the TV Guide info any more. The TV Guide info appears to be OK, as I can access it via both EWA and via a PC Client. I can't see any errors in the logs and I'm at a loss for what to try next. I started with a fresh set of log files and then performed the following actions:
Restarted GBPVR Recording Service at 13:34
After MVP reconnected, selected "Recordings", selected "Menu" (These worked fine)
Selected "TV Guide" (MVP just hangs for quite a while, then will start responding to other commands after it times out.)
Selected "Down Arrow" 3 times.
This is with the "dongle.bin" from 1.4.7, but the same problem occurs with MVPMC from Sept. 30, 2008.
Logs attached. Can anyone provide a clue as to what is going on?
I have a new version of mvpmcx2 that will work with NPVR being tested and I will post it when I get some confirmation that it works with GBPVR.
The actual changes required in mvpmcx2 were small, sub still has to do some work on NPVR server-side to provide the same experience especially when it comes to video playback.
Note I am not planning on updating NMTInstaller to load or configure NPVR 1.15 while NPVR is in beta. I will post more news after testing.
First, thanks to sub for his work on this release. I am glad to see the project get a clean coding and am excited to give NPVR a test.
Now the moment of truth for me: What tuners are supported? sub's description makes it sound like only Hauppauge devices are compatible. Will my HD Home Run work with NPVR?
BTW, I've run NPVR and nothing seems to be detected. I've messed with the software options for the HD Home Run device, but seem to be stuck.
I updated vcred, and directx per the links. The install went very quickly. Just a couple of seconds. The "n" is in the tray and it looks like all the stuff is in the program folder. I get a "unhandled .net exception" when I try to launch it that I can only recover from by killing from task manager. I don't see any logs to post...
This is a big release with lots of changes. I've had to make changes to some stuff that was holding GB-PVR back, and along the way I've broken all the plugins and skins etc.
In the beginning of December I started rewriting GB-PVR from scratch. I did this for a variety of reasons. A few of the most important reasons include:
- problems with legal ownership of GB-PVR codebase
- many things in the architecture didnt work well, but were impossible to change in the existing framework without major pain for users
- hack upon hack were added over the years as application evolved from a single tuner analog application to a multi-tuner analog/digital application
- millions of odd little rules users had requested over the years, that I no longer understood fully. This made the application fragile and prone to breaking stuff when I made small changes. (yes, you'll probably be annoyed that your specific rule is no longer there)
- and a pile of other stuff...
Sticking with my crappy naming ability, the new application is called N-PVR (short for 'next pvr').
This is a lot of change, and its still rough in places, so should be considered a public beta. Fortunately, its an entirely different application, and can be installed on the same machine as GB-PVR 1.4.7 for you give it a test drive.
I also have to say a big thanks to the testers, who have suffered through this big change from its very feeble early builds, and given me a lot of help along the way.
