  Generating Video Thumbnails
Posted by: philcooling - 2009-11-10, 01:41 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (6)

I'm still pretty new at this so I hope I haven't wasted my time duplicating functionality which is already in GBPVR!

Anyway, I'm looking at moving over to GBPVR from Snapstream's BeyondTV product and I had a large number of video files I was using in BeyondTV which I wanted to have available in GBPVR's Video Library (the default plugin) but was disappointed when there appeared to be no easy way to generate thumbnails for all the videos automatically (if there is, I'd like to know about it!).

So, after a bit of searching I discovered that FFMPEG can generate JPGs from a wide range of video files so I wrote a little VBScript to do this and I've attached it here for anyone else to look at and use.

The script first finds your CONFIG.XML file and reads out the locations you have defined in the VideoLibrary configuration. It then scans each of the locations in turn, working through all the subdirectories to locate Video files (currently AVI, MPG, MPEG, MOV & WMV) and it then runs FFMPEG to generate a still image from that file which it places in the same folder as the Video (is there a better place to put these???). Finally, it randomly picks one of these files to be the "folder.jpg" - i.e. the image you see before you open the given folder.

The config of the script is straight-forward - in fact if you have used the default install options there is no config needed! Otherwise all you need to do is tell it where to find the CONFIG.XML file and the FFMPEG.exe file.

This has been tested on Windows XP SP3 running GBPVR 1.4.7.

Please reply with any thoughts/comments/questions!

  Best/better current production analog card?
Posted by: cjn1962 - 2009-11-10, 12:26 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

Hello:

I recently purchased a Hauppauge 1600 despite several unfavorable reviews I found regarding its analog video quality. Unfortunately, I agree with those reviews. I understand that the PVR-150 is good card, if I can find one. Can anyone recommend a current production card that works well with an analog signal? I am a Comcast customer with a set top box so I will need the IR Blaster function for unattended recording.

I normally research my purchases a lot more thoroughly, but I purchased the card from Best Buy and only have a few more days to return it. Thanks for any help.

Chris

ION 330 CUDA x264 HD Movies and EVR - Overlay 100% CPU
Posted by: savocanberra - 2009-11-10, 09:15 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (13)

Hi All,

Spent the whole afternoon trying to get x264 movies running on GB-PVR 1.4.7 on a ION 330 mini-itx board with some issues.

Poor little CPU's cant keep up Smile

With VMR9 selected I cannot get CUDA acceleration to work it hits CPU 100%, I can get CUDA to work perfect with Classic Media player using the CoreAVC codecs around 13% CPU all GPU, even choosing coreavc in GB-PVR does not help it still using FFDSHOW but will not work because there is no support for cuda.

With EVR i can get the x264 playing nice and smooth 24fps but when the overlay comes up (menu/info,etc....) CPU hits 100% and slows the movie down very annoying?

Any advise?

  Comskip toggle with 999
Posted by: dvasco - 2009-11-10, 06:41 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Is the Comskip toggle using 999 broke in 1.4.7? I have tried to use it lately and it hasn't worked for me.

  Sound degrades after DVB-T glitch
Posted by: dale77 - 2009-11-10, 04:24 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Hello,

I was watching NZ TV3 Freeview HD (1080i, and AAC I think) last night and when I saw a glitch in the signal (presumably due to UHF reception issues) the sound developed an echo, playing each sample twice in short succession. This is cured by stopping and restarting live-TV, but after another glitch occurs, it was back to echoes.

This is with 1.4.7. My H.264 codec is from Powercinema 6, and I have MONOGRAM AAC codec and AC3Filter.

Has this been seen before? Any thoughts for a fix? GB-PVR seems to work fine... until I get a minor interruption in signal.

Thanks

Dale

  mc2xml Digital Channels
Posted by: 235301 - 2009-11-10, 02:56 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

I have had GBPVR setup on my system for several years now and have never been able to get the digital channels to work for the guide. Here's what I have:

-On my cable system channels 1000-1100 are the clear QAM local channels. Example: 1004 is channel 4.1 for OTA.
-I have my system setup so channel 104 is my digital 4.1 channel(channel 4.1 is the OTA channel for this digital channel). Video/audio works fine on this channel, only the guide doesn't work(this is just an example, the guide doesn't work for any of my digital channels, it only works for analog channels 1-99).
-I setup a renumber file for mc2xml where 1004:4.1 to remap channel 1004 in the guide to 4.1 on my system.
-I setup mc2xml so that it maps channel 1004 from the guide to channel 4.1. So in the xml file from mc2xml we see "4.1 WTMJDT1" and this is also what we see as the channel name in the guide in GBPVR. However, no love, no program listings in the guide.

I am hoping someone can explain how the values in the mc2xml.xml file map to the guide in GBPVR so that I can figure this deal out and get the guide working for the digital channels(as I stated earlier the guide works great for all the analog channels).

Thanks!

  MVP goes black Live TV
Posted by: steeb - 2009-11-10, 01:02 AM - Forum: MVPMC dongle - Replies (5)

Hi,

running MVPMC dongle 29.11.08. Did major rebuild a couple of weeks ago with GBPVR v1.4.7 been tweaking ever since!

What I have noticed is that all 3 of my MVP's stop playing LiveTV after a while and the screen goes black. BUT it hasn't locked up, if I change channel the video pops straight back up again. Not one of those hangs that can happen with the MVP, the video is still there but just black screen. The weirdest thing of all is I have worked out it happens at the end of a programme. If I am watching a 1/2 hr programme it goes black at the end of it, a feature film will keep going until that ends then go to black!

No logs attached in case this is a known thing but couldn't find a reference to it.

Cheers

Steeb

Recordings cutting off last minute or so of shows
Posted by: chancer74 - 2009-11-10, 12:01 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (14)

Hello. I have GBPVR cutting off the last minute or so of each show. (all of them) The post and pre padding are both at 0, and all of the settings look good. The shows also start a minute or two early as well....like the post and pre padding are stuck. I have a single tuner and using postprocessing.bet to call comskip and then comclean. Commercials are being cut ok, the original also has the ends and starts cut prematurely. Help?
I have attached the log file zipped. In particular, look at the log file from the 6th of November, 2009. Smallville start and end was lopped off on either side.

  Comcast keeps changing QAM list
Posted by: antialias - 2009-11-09, 11:32 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

I've noticed that the QAM channel mappings have changed on me 2 times now in the past 6 months. I'm on Comcast in Vancouver Washington. Has anyone else had this issue and is there an easy way to rescan without manually flipping through all the QAM list and typing in the corresponding QAM number for each station?
