I want to build a new HTPC and just need a few hardware recommendations. I currently have a PVR-250, 2x MVP's, and digital cable. My PVR-250 only sees channels up to 99 and I want to be able to record all of my digital channels. I currently have no STB near my HTPC and would like a new card capable of recording all of the channels. It'd be a added bonus to record the 8 or so standard free HD channels we receive assuming I could view them with an MVP which I'm not quite clear on. Dual tuners would be great too. Which card/device is right for me?
I'm also thinking about a PCH. We view 100% on the MVP's and they work fine, but are a bit sluggish and sometimes lock up. The PCH seems to have overcome that. Is that a true statement?
I just had my MB die on my GBPVR machine and so I took the opportunity to upgrade to Vista.
I got GBPVR up and operating fine with my HDHomerun and Hauppauge PVR USB2 capture devices and I thought I was home free with the Avermedia since Vista automatically installed drivers for it. Config.exe sees the Avermedia as a usable device to set up, but when I try to view a channel in GBPVR, no joy.
The logs seem to indicate that gbpvr can't find the device. I am at work and can't post the logs right now. If they might be helpful I can do that. My feeling is that the drivers are not quite right. The Avermedia site has NO info on this card. I guess its just too old.
I thought I had a problem w/ my HD-PVR recording w/ messed up timelines, so I played around with adding tsmuxer to PostProcessing.bat, but it turns out that simply deleting the comskip files causes the files to play back correctly.
Couple things I noticed:
1) If a file appears to have timeline issues (skipping always jumps to the beginning of the file), deleting the comskip files makes this problem go away - although comskip won't work then...
2) Alternatively, I can manually run tsMuxeR to re-mux the file and the problem goes away - plus I still have comskip
3) When I added tsMuxeR to PostProcessing.bat & ran PP.bat manually on the file, if comskip ran BEFORE tsMuxeR, everything was fine. If it ran after, the file was messed up (deleting comskip files restored timeline during playback)
4) If PostProcessing.bat is called from GBPVR, even w/ comskip running BEFORE tsMuxeR, the file appears corrupt - again removing comskip files corrects the problem.
Time line "corruption" appears both on the PCH & on the PC (although I really only view from the PC if I'm debugging stuff)
The last file I tried viewing that displayed timeline issues was an episode of Semi-Homemade viewed between 8-8:30 AM - once w/ & once w/o comskip files available.

The tray icon can now have a tooltip allowing you to disable the balloon if you wish and still receive information by hovering over the icon. The Tray Configuration form has a new System Tray Tool-tip area to customise the tool-tip. They are also a couple of additional registry settings to customise the tool-tip.
"Delay shutdown when intercepted" added to Tray Configuration/Advanced/Shutdown options.
If Slimm GBPVR is already running, when you start a new copy it will terminate the old one. This is handy for when Windows Explorer crashes and doesn’t restore the icon. Now you simply run Slimm GBPVR again; the old instance will be terminated and the new one, with a shiny new icon, will execute. It has been used to provide command-line access to Slimm GBPVR’s delayed shutdown features.
Command line switch /shutdown added.
[SIZE="5"]Tray Bug Fixes[/SIZE]:
If Slimm GBPVR cannot retrieve the tuner status (if, for example, one of your tuners has crashed), it will not execute an automatic (delayed) shutdown.
Tuner Status warning and error messages (that appear when the tuner status cannot be retrieved once or several times respectively) now use balloon tips instead of message boxes.
Auto-restart recording service now attempts to restart service a few times before throwing up an error balloon and not trying again.
Multiple instances of Slimm GBPVR are now closed via PostThreadMessage WM_QUIT instead of Process.Kill. This means that the application closes properly and the system tray icon is removed.
[SIZE="5"]Tray Coding[/SIZE]:
Slimm GBPVR now sets ES_AWAYMODE_REQUIRED for SetThreadExecutionState in compliance with Vista’s new rules on power management.
Vista and above only: Slimm GBPVR also sets ShudownBlockReason while GBPVR is recording so that when it prevents a system shutdown, Vista can tell the user why.

Have yet another problem. Live TV look like a static picture. I can't understand, it was working fine a day ago. It just looks like a stacticed up version of normal tv.
I have two DVB-S cards in my PVR. I don't have multi-record enabled in PVRX2, because I prefer to record to .mpg files.
Back when I had only one DVB-S card, if two adjacent programmes on the same channel were scheduled to record, even with pre & post padding, I would get two files each with the required padding at both ends. PVRX2 was cleverly recording to two files from the same stream where the post padding of programme 1 overlapped the pre padding of programme 2.
Now that I have 2 DVB-S cards, when padding overlaps on two adjacent programmes on the same channel, the 2nd tuner gets tied up to record the 2nd programme, meaning that no tuner is available to watch another channel.
My wish is that PVRX2 is smart enough to employ the same technique that it uses when only one card is in the PVR and record overlapping programmes on the same channel with only one card. This would leave the other tuner free for watching/recording other programmes.
GBPVR is awesome and the only way I watch TV now that I'm out in the country with no decent terrestrial coverage. Keep up the good work, sub, and I will keep up the donations :p
Up until now, I've been using the spacebar of my keyboard (plugged in via keyboard port) to wake my HTPC manually. I just got one of these remotes to wake up my PC via USB. It basically functions as a keyboard and requires no drivers. I comes with a USB receiver that I put next to my PVR-150 IR receiver. My hopes were to use both remotes in the same activity on my Harmony remote, but I can't seem to get the new USB remote to wake up the PC. I have an older ASUS P4P800 MB and it has jumpers on it to enable waking via USB and I've also ensured the settings in the device manager allow the device to wake the PC. Can anyone think of anything Ive missed?
Over the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that many of my recordings are freezing at random times during the recording for a couple of seconds, then plays fast for a second to "catch up" then resumes fine, until it (maybe) does it again. The audio also stops when the video freezes, but when the video plays fast afterwards, the audio plays at the normal speed. As far as I know, I have not done any updates on this PC for quite some time. I thought maybe it was a hard drive fragmentation problem at first, but then I remembered I have Diskkeeper running in the background which keeps my HDD defragmented on-the-fly. (I've had Diskkeeper installed for quite a while without this issue) Any ideas?
So, I have one of the $40 ATSC digital adapters. It will not get any signal off my cable. It specifies in the directions, only ATSC. So, I'm assuming ATSC and QAM are different frequency sets?
If that's the case, can they be combined into one cable? For instance, can I get an adapter that puts my ATSC antennae into the same wire that has my cable's QAM? If so, how does a digital tuner handle that?
