Card works with the default PVR software that came with it. This is a friends card that he wasn't using that I am just trying to see if I want to get into it. Works about as well as expected. On 90% of the channels the signal is better than I expected. A few channels not so great. No sound for some reason too. Anyways...
I cannot get GBPVR to recognize my capture device. I see it in a list of cards GB works with, and I can select that. But if I put a check in "Show only cards installed" or whatever it says, it gives an error that no cards are found. And if I manually setup, I cannot watch live TV.
Once I get this working, I would liek to ask (prob in another thread) what would be a good card for around $75-$100 but would like to make sure this is technology I really want to invest in.
I would like to have more control of the PVRX2 app from a windowing perspective. I have 1 LCD and a 22" monitor with gbpvr settings start on 2nd monitor. I would like to run PVRX2 on both the TV and Monitor so that I can watch the ball game while my kids watch their shows. Durring football season, I wouldn't mind watching 2 football games at once.
I have 4 tuners in my htpc.
This feature would also give me the luxury of using other features (managing recordings, weather, etc) while playing shows/movies.
I am getting close to buying a new computer which will be used for GBPPVR recording as well as general desktop applications. My preferences would be to stay with a 32-bit version of Windows but the computer makers seem to be only offering Vista in 64-bit versions. I would stick with a 32 bit version of XP except Microsoft has signalled the end of its support. For most programs, that would not be an issue but with Windows we have seen that new patches for security issues are issued regularly. I am afraid that starting with a new XP computer now would quickly leave me vulnerable during the expected lifetime of this computer (at least 4 years).
I would also like to avoid Vista and go straight to Windows 7 so I know that this means waiting until at least the Fall to buy the computer unless I can get one with a free upgrade to Windows7 once it is available. As far as I can tell, unlike Vista which had many driver compatibility problems when it came out, Windows 7 doesn't/won't be having the same level of incompatibilities.
I am interested in a Core 2 duo (that's the best version I can figure from the information about the multi-core processors). Although I don't expect to have software that is written to multitask the individual program, I am hoping that this will let two separate processes run simultaneously (such as comskip processing a program once it has been recorded while I am running a desktop application such as a compiler without them seriously impacting each other or XMLTV running and not locking up the whole computer while it runs - which currently happens in XP where it uses 100% cpu until it finishes).
It seems that when a multi-core processor is included, the computer makers automatically include 64-bit Windows since the processor can support 64-bit.
I know there are a bunch of threads touching on this subject and I have looked through them but most of the information seems several months old (an eternity when we are dealing with a migration from 32-bit to 64-bit computing) and I thought a new thread could be used to assemble all the current knowledge about this topic.
Most of the negative comments about 64-bit windows seem to be about device drivers so I assume that buying a new computer with the OS installed should cover the basic video and other hardware issues. The only other hardware it will be interfacing with will be my router, DSL modem and capture cards. I will be installing several Hauppauge capture cards (a 1600 and either a 150, 350, or both depending on how many PCI slots I can get. If I can only get two PCI slots I will use the 1600 and a 500 to get a total of 3 NTSC and 1 QAM channel for recording) for a combination of capturing NTSC analog signals and QAM channels.
A couple questions to get started:
I have seen some comments about some software won't run in 64-bit Windows. Are these situations only due to problems with hardware drivers or are there other issues about 32 bit programs running in the 64-bit environment?
Is GBPVR compatible with Vista-64?
Which Hauppauge cards are supported by GBPVR in 64-bit environment?
How much problem will software decoders be?
Are there known issues in supporting MediaMVP and Popcornhour A100 units?
I'm working on a fresh build with the hardware in my sig. I'm wondering what are peoples thoughts on ATI graphics card drivers and the Catalyst Control Centre software.
* Is it enough to just install the drivers? Is CCC really needed? Seems more hassle then it's worth sometimes.
* If CCC is recommended, which version is best for Windows XP SP3?
A few days ago I had picture problems, the cause seemed to be my satalite dish.
I got the sky man out to check it and he said it was alright, but he put a couple of stays on it anyway to help with a wind problems.
In proccess of finding what the problem was I uninstalled and re-installed GV-PVR
and had to retune my HVR 3000 but also because I wanted to add the new TV3 Plus channel
I had very hard time getting the TV card to tune and it would not find any of thr Freeview channels unless I used the sky decoder as the power supply.
The TV card did not seem to be able to operate the duel sky LNB properly.
and in case your wondering, no I don't have sky I am only able to recieve prime with my sky install, it is just a cheap way ($145) to get a dish for freeview and you get prime and a decoder as well.
Anyway to cut along story short, now in GB-PVR when I record a show with the TS Mux I have no sound on play back, if I change to the ATI Mux it works ok. The problem is I would rather use the TS Mux as I can record multilpe channels.
I had a look at the logs but no errors show up.
Anybody have any Ideas ?
As a side note I updated all the Hauppage drivers in the process and installed the new WINTV 7 and it won't find any Freeview channels even with the Sky decoded plugged in and yet GB-PVR can...strange, also WinTV 7 will play the recorded TS files no problem ?
I disconnected my server for some cleaning today. On reboot I had to reconfigure BIOS (it turns out in addition to a lot of dust in the machine the RTC battery is dead).
I messed up and changed a setting for one of my banks of SATA controllers. [Wouldn't ya know it, the ones for drives related to my TV recordings.]
Reboot worked fine. Ten minutes later I decide to perform some file exploring . . . my "T:" drive is not there. Aha! I realize I made a small mistake in BIOS.
Long story short, in those ten minutes GBPVR apparently deleted entries regarding about 200 recordings from the DB since it could not "see" them while the recordings drive was invisible to the system.
The recordings are, however, ALL still listed in the "PROGRAMME" table in the gbpvr.db3 database. What can I do to make them reappear in recordings in the GBPVR interface? [The recordings are nicely grouped at the beginning of the PROGRAMME table, followed by what appears to be the EPG for upcoming shows.]
The actual recording files are, of course, still on the drive too.
My problem seems less severe than other similar posts. I'm guessing I just need to refer to the PK of the relevant entries in another table, which I could probably do in a batch with some SQL wizardry. Unfortunately, I don't understand the GBPVR.db3 format particularly well.
Any and all help is appreciated! I have new recordings scheduled for June 10 . . . at which point I guess my situation might become more complicated. [I do, of course have a backup of the .db3 file in its current state.]
I have two pvr 150 cards setup on my system. Whenever I have one show recording and i try to watch another show i notice that the stb channel does not change on the card showing live tv. I have a usb-uirt setup to do the switching on both of my set top boxes. If i set two channels to record at the same time (not watch live) then i notice both set top boxes change channels accordingly. The problem i am experiencing only seems to occur when one card is recording and live tv is showing on the other.
While browsing the Recordings directory in explorer I noticed some files had not been deleted properly by GB-PVR through the interface, so I cut and pasted them to another drive in the event that if anything went wrong then I could just copy them back and everything would be fine. After moving them I got an Unhandled exception error in GBPVR after selecting Recordings, so I put them back... and unfortunately the error still remains.
Logs attached (though the system required a reboot after locking up following the exception error).
I was able ot get my PCH A-110 to connect to GBPVR before I installed a hard drive. Now, I can start telnet on port 23 from PCH. And I can telnet from my GBPVR computer to the PCH. I also have the firewall configured the same as before. I believe that all my scripts in the share C:\MVMVP directory are the same as before. In fact, I have gone through all the steps in the NMT WIKI to get my PCH running again.
To be fair, you should also know that I had experimented with sharing through Windows Media PLayer (Tools>Options>library tab>Configure sharing button. Then share my media to: PCH-A110)
Could the addition of a hard drive change the network share path/name?
