I was wondering can anyone offer some advise. The opportunity has arise for me to install a DVB-T tuner in another country I want to receive TV from. I have a high speed broadband connection between there and where I am (10+ Mbps).
The question is, can anyone recommend me a way to watch TV from there on my GBPVR receiver. Is there any software which will give me a DVB-T to IP gateway which I can then access over my VPN?
I'm aware that there are softwares such as Orb which will do re-coded streaming, but if there anything that will simply forward the MPEG-4 stream?
And this is a real long shot, but is there likely to be any means to record from those streams?
Plan B is that I'll just set GBPVR up on the remote computer and control it via EWA and browse the recorded files in my living room, but I'm holding out for a neater solution!
I found the install and configuration reasonably straightforward. Unfortunately GBPVR has an issue or two playing Freeview HD.
My config:
GA-MA78GPM-UD2H, X2 4850e, Hauppage HVR 2200, Corsair 2x1Gb, ATI HD3200, LG GGC-H20L, WD750AACS, Vista-32, Catalyst 9.4
I selected EVR and Cyberlink PCM45 h.264 codec, and there are two issues:
1. TVNZ 6,7,8 are green screen unwatchable, although there is obviously something going on, and audio is present.
2. After a little while of watching TV3, audio goes on the fritz
Issue one is also present in MediaPortal. I can resolve it by reverting to the VMR9 Custom renderer in GBPVR, but this disables hardware decoding, a single core is at near 100% while watching HDTV. In mediaportal, I could get good playback by selecting a different codec (PCM h.264), but this option is not available in the GBPVR configuration options for h.264. Is there a way to make this available?
I don't know if anyone else would find this useful... but it would be nice for me if the source path of the recording was displayed in the 'Show' column and maybe in the Program Information dialog popup too.
My local cable company keeps changing the channels I can get without a cable box (free QAM), and I'm now down to just the local channels I can get with an antenna. I think Discovery is the only cable channel I can still get.
I've been considering upgrading to either "Digital Starter" service from my cable company (Comcast), or signing up with the TurboHD service from Dish Network. The satellite option would give me all HD channels which would be great, but the cable company includes a couple of standard def channels at the same cost that I'm more interested in. But, it seems like I keep paying more for cable and getting less.
Anyway, I'm curious what it would take to interface GBPVR with the Dish Network receivers so I could record HD material on my computer. Is there any way to keep it all digital, or would I have to take the analog output of the dish receiver and re-encode it again? If so, what cards can encode analog material in High Def?
I suppose it would probably be easier to just get one of their DVR's, but I like having everything centralized in one place. I also have GBPVR setup to remove commercials, and customize my TV listings the way I like.
Is there any way to change channels with Dish receivers other than an IR blaster? I no longer have the ones that came with my HVR-1600's, does anyone sell these aftermarket?
If I opt to upgrade to a digital cable package, am I basically limited to analog re-encoding from the set top boxes also?
I've been reading BTjustics's thread about making a 2 pass batch to encode movies into XVID. This got me wondering if it is possible to use my FMP4 compression instead and make that do 2 passes?
I use the FFDshow's codec and it is like a turbo compressor that uses very little CPU on my rig. I only compress SDTV. I have been using it for about a year and compress all my movies auto into avi's using the built in convert function in PVRX2 without problems and I am very happy with the results. A 4 to 5gig MPEG movie usually ends up under 2gigs and the size is adjusted depending on how much movement is in the movie. on my Core Duo rig it usually compresses a show at 60FPS and I am usually compressing two at a time at 60FPS each while I am recording two more shows at the same time while watching a show in GBPVR. It is a miracle codec to say the least. Now this leads me to this post.
Can someone with command line mencoder knowledgle please help me adjust my command line script to enable two passes so I can see if I will get even much more compression on encoded movies?
I'm trying to figure out the best way to integrate TMT into GBPVR when using a Hauppauge 1600 remote. Whurlston wrote the following explanation of the TMT MCE "plugin" a while back:

In short the TMT plugin responds to MCE/VMC commands. (Do VMC and MCE use the same commands?) I have a Harmony 659 remote and could add MCE as a player but I would like to be able to switch into TMT through the GBPVR menu. I believe I already have used all of the available 659 function positions anyhow.
I am wondering if I can configure Hauppauge remote to send both MCE and GBPVR commands at the same time? (I assume I would just edit the Hauppauge remote.ini file under the Windows directory to do that.) Would that cause problems? Would I be better off using HIP? I appreciate any thoughts.
I have a set top box so I am using the Hauppauge blaster. I understand HIP cannot control the Blaster but can it pick up the Hauppauge RF signal?
Upgraded to 1.3.11 on 4-20. I use MSN_XMLTV scraper v.65 for EPG. Everything seems to work fine except now TV Guide says No Show Details for all programs. I've attached the logs. Thanks.
I am using AverMedia Hybrid Volar Max H826 (QAM) with gbpvr 1.3.11 on XP Pro Service Pack 3, AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2G ram and Radeon HD3450 video card. The tuner was installed and working correctly with the AverMedia software shipped with the product. However, the AverMedia software is buggy, crashes all the time and very inconsistent. I can get gbpvr to view the HD files recorded from AverMedia software from the Video Libraries.
gbpvr successfully recognized the device as (ATSC) and (QAM), I connected the cable, then picked QAM. Import an EPG from Schedule Direct. During channel mapping and channel scanning ( the blue light on the tuner turns on and seems like it has no problem communcating to the tuner). However, only 4 encrypted channels found after scanning. With the AverMedia software, a lot of encrypted and unencrypted channels were found after scan. I am attaching the log files below for QAM.
I then tried an antenna and used ATSC for scanning, again no channels were found (blue light on the tuner turns on during scan). With the AverMedia software, all the major networks are found without problem. I am attaching the log files below for ATSC.
Can you help me to figure out the problems? Thanks!
dumb question: so if I have my Popcorn hour, will it "remote control" GBPVR so i can do PVR stuff? How does MVP relate to this? Do I "point" PCH at GBPVR (or is it the otherway round). Apologies for dumb question, I read the wiki but wasn't too clear on this. thanks!
After some years away from GB-PVR I have returned and build a GB-PVR server using a Hauppauge Nova T card.
I cannot get the DVB subtitles to display. After searching the forum, I have found threads from last year where you state, that it does not work in the new PXR... version. Is this still the case? If yes, has this issue advanced on your To-Do list?
Is there a work-around to this? Record and display using an external program or ...?
