Client LiveTV freezes when switching channel
Posted by: wallacetheweasel - 2009-03-24, 05:21 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

Hi guys,

I'm having one more problem with my client PC. Intermittently (but quite regularly), when changing the channel during LiveTV, the program will freeze. This always occurs on a channel change, never when starting LiveTV. It seems to be the same problem discussed in this thread back in 2007: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=24591

When switching channels, sometimes the channel will change but immediately freeze PVRX2 (leaving a still image of the new channel). The only way to exit is by killing the program.

The final solution advocated, upping the ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay to 5000, works to solve the problem. Unfortunately, it makes each channel change last about 10 seconds, which will not go over well with the family.

I attached my PVRX2.exe.log from right after a lock-up (before changing ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay). I'm wondering if there is anything else to be done.

Thanks in advance!

  MVP + NMT w/ digital-only cable
Posted by: drbenjamin - 2009-03-24, 01:59 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - No Replies

Guys

After years of flawless service, trauma is coming to my GB-PVR setup. Comcast will stop broadcasting the analog signal in our area this spring. AS I understand it, they will be using clear QAM on all the channels that are currently analog. This will force me to record digital broadcasts and transcode them in order to play on our MVPs. Because we have multiple MVPs and watchers, a real-time transcode will not serve as the only solution, I will need to store transcoded videos. The SDTV format is MP2 video/AC3 audio, and I think I can figure out an ffmpeg command string to convert the audio. However, the change is also motivating me to allow for HDTV and playing to a yet-to-be purchased NMT. So, what I think I need to do is to write a script that will figure out whether a given recording is SDTV (and needs to be converted) or not. Any suggestions on how to do this accurately? Other questions, will I be able to slipstream (FF and REW while recording) with both devices? Does comskip work with .ts files, SDTV and HDTV?
Thanks for any help, and special thanks to Martin for MVPMC and his support for both MVP and NMT.

  IR blaster coming unstuck
Posted by: mkenyon2 - 2009-03-24, 01:27 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I don't want to use just any glue, but the IR blaster I use for my cable STB is coming loose, and has caused some missed programming. It's on right now, but I don't know how long it will stay.

How can I re stick it?

  Stange Audio track change
Posted by: hakras - 2009-03-24, 12:59 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I recorded 4 show on the same channel and 1 show on another channel all starting at 8pm last night. I have a 2 minute pre and 3 minute post buffer set. The 3 shows that I already watched (all from the same channel) were fine until the last 2 minutes. Then the audio dropped out. If I clicked on the audio button on the remote, the audio would came back (track 2). I never had this before and am just curious if this is normal for back to back recordings. Also, the one show I recorded from another channel has a problem. I can't do the normal 30 second skip. I get an ! on the screen.

This past weekend, I uninstalled GBPVR and reinstalled from scratch. My tuner is an HDHomeRun (latest official firmware/software and using OTA) and I watch everything through a Popcorn Hour (latest official firmware). I have multi-record enabled and the HDHR software has dynamic tuner allocation disabled.

Any thoughts?

Better client / server communication. Wake on LAN?
Posted by: Dave_M - 2009-03-24, 12:15 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (4)

I have set up GBPVR with a client server set up. I must say it works really well! Best settings are TS mux (cyberlink mux stuttered very badly) and I'm using file sharing, not streaming. My server is only a fanless Via Epia system and CPU usage is low, network only peaks at about 8% on a 100Mb LAN. I'm very optimistic that it will work fine over 54g wireless - I plan to try it at some point.

Anyway the problem I have now is that the server goes into standby after 1hr. When I turn my client machine on, if the server isn't there it creates some problems. Trying to run PVRX2 only results in me having to use the task manager to shut it down. I had to wake up the server first using wake on lan, then close down GBPVR tray, restart recording status, and then start everything back up for it to work. What would be much better would be to have a client that recognizes when the server isnt there and have an option to wake up the server. If PVRX2 could run without crashing then I could have my own custom task in the main menu to run wake on lan from the comand prompt. But I would still need better server / client comunication for it to work without having to manually click on restart recording service.

MovieWiz is non responsive on PCH
Posted by: hakras - 2009-03-24, 11:09 AM - Forum: SearchWiz & MovieWiz - Replies (11)

I was experiencing many little issues with GBPVR so I decided to do a fresh install. All of my problems are now gone, but I have a new one. When I open GBPVR from the PCH and choose MovieWiz it comes up fine. But I cannot navigate through the movie list. It is completely non responsive to any remote keys. The only thing I can do is hit the power button on the remote, which takes me out of GBPVR completely. I can go into TVGuide, Recordings, Music, Weather, etc. without any issues. I am not sure if it's a skin issue. I am using the Mayhem3 skin. I also remember a while back I had some slow, lagging issues and we tried a few dll files and it finally got resolved (dll version 1.0.17.5). See this post: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...hlight=PCH. I figured this fix would have been implemented into new versions (I'm running1.0.24.0). I am looking for a starting point of troubleshooting. Should I copy over the dll that I previously used, should I try a different skin, or something else? I have attached the dll I was using before if you'd like to take a look at it.

Thanks

  listings overlapping titles?
Posted by: jdabling - 2009-03-24, 04:42 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (11)

In the GB-PVR listings, some of the titles seem to wrap around on themselves, or maybe it isn't updating when I scroll horizontally? See the attached. Let me know if you've seen it before. It goes away if I click on it once. But, if I scroll over to new times, or down to different channels, it may show up in other places.
