What is the proper way to delete recorded episodes so that they are re-recorded assuming it is a scheduled series?

For example, say I want to record the series Star Trek on a certain channel that repeats episodes. Now let's assume one of the recordings is bad for whatever reason. If I delete it directly from the hard drive as opposed to deleting the recording within GBPVR, does GBPVR see it as missing and therefore re-records that particular episode?

Or, if I delete the episode within GBPVR, does GBPVR already know it has been recorded and therefore will not record it again?

This is not a Mediaportal promo thread, but there might be others out there like me who have a mixed PVR setup of Mediaportal and GBPVR. This plugin can be useful in that situation, because it exports every new TV recording in Mediaportal to the GBPVR database using the –import option of pvrx2.exe. People with an MediaMVP or PCH can view those recordings using the GBPVR recordings plugin.

Installation instructions:
1. Stop the tvserver
2. Place ExportToGbpvr.dll in the plugin directory of your TV server, usually C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\Plugins
3. Start the tvserver setup
4. Activate the ExportToGbpvr plugin.
5. Restart the tvserver

Known issues:
- Mediaportal doesn’t support the XMLTV node <sub-title>, so you’ll never get that in the GBPVR database with this plugin.
- The recording is added as soon as the recording starts, so it will be available in the category “Ready” and not in “Pending”, even though it is still recording. I think this is actually better, but some might disagree.
- The plugin uses the channel display name in Mediaportal, so this channel is added to the database if the same name isn’t already available in GBPVR. But it won’t be visible untill the recording service is restarted.

If anyone is wondering why I also use Mediaportal: it supports CI for my two FloppyDTV’s and Alphacrypts CAM’s, which means I can record two encrypted DVB-C channels at the same time, and even more if there are several channels on the same transponder, which usually is the case. I use GBPVR for my analog recordings.

I could have posted this on the Mediaportal forum, but the audience for this plugin, if it even excists, is probably on this forum.

when doing things that take a long time, I like to display periodic updates to the user, letting them know my code hasn't crashed, it is just busy.

Just registered today, but have been reading through hundreds of posts for the last month and set up a test system with an old box and a 1600 (which I'll be using as a client, now).

I've decided to build a server/client system and have ordered all of the parts to my main box except for the tuner cards. The plan is to run some sort of dual card setup with either two 1800s or one 1800 and one 1600 (depending upon client/server question later). I use Time Warner and will have 2 ClearQAM, 1 analog cable and 1 analog from STB connection. I have a couple of questions that I couldn't find answers to, though, before I go ahead and buy the tuners:

Server/Client setup: Is it better (for live TV on the client) to set up the 'client' as a client in gbpvr or to simply set up the 'client' as a normal pvr with a tuner card and point the directories to my server (I'm assuming that if I did this my machines wouldn't know recordings from the other machine even if they were all in the same directory)? Or... is it possible to set up as intended and just put a tuner card in the client machine? EDIT - I'm asking this because I've read that live tv on the client can be pretty bad at times.

Tuner cards/ir blaster/remote: I will either end up with two 1800s or one 1600 and one 1800. The 1800 is a MCE and will have the STB plugged into it and will be the only place (1800 analog) that I will need an ir blaster. I do not have an ir blaster or remote for the 1800, but I do have both for the 1600. Will the remote and ir blaster, if plugged into the 1600, work for the 1800 in gbpvr? If not and I buy a usb pinnacle remote with ir blaster, will that work for the 1800 analog only or will it change the STB channel every time that I change a channel on gbpvr?

Today Microsoft sent out a bunch of updates that seems to cause a PVRX2 and Recording Service failure. Both me and 2 of my friends GBPVR has stopped working in LiveTV and Recording. The Recording service is running and working, but PRX2 can't communicate with it.

It might be one of these updates, that causes the problem.

I would recommend you to turn off updates....otherwise you might end up reinstalling Vista and perhaps XP also?
I have tried uninstalling the updates and roll back to a restore point, but nothing helps #!$¤

Hey, I have 32-bit Vista and have installed the MCE Replacement Driver for the Hauppauge MCE receiver. I am currently using IR Server (Translator) to blast commands to my 2 STBs.

The IR Server has seemed to learn the commands fine from the OEM Remotes (Comcast and FTA) and changes the channel appropriately when I click on the "Test" button under the "IR Commands" menu.

The problem is that I can't get my Hauppauge MCE Remote to blast those same commands. Am I missing something here? Am I supposed to link the MCE Remote buttons to the OEM remotes' buttons somehow in IR Server?

I have everything set up correctly in gbpvr (irblast.exe is used as the channel changer file). I have also mapped the buttons to the correct port on the blast in IR Server.

I know that it's something small that I'm missing here.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Yep, another Newbie with Nebula problems!!
I've actually got most of the way and am LOVING GBPVR.

I have everything set up & working, and it's recording OK. The issue is that the playback of recordings is very poor.

I've previously had my card set up with the DigiTV software from Nebula & it's all fine. Those recordings (.mpg) play back through GBPVR perfectly, as do .avi files.

However, GBPVR seems to record in .TS (transport stream I think?) rather than Mpg. These don't play back well.

I've tried going back to the old DigiTV software & the recordings there are still fine (even with the BDA drivers)

My PC is not hugely powerful (celeron 2.4, 512mb, XP SP3), but copes find transcoding AVIs.

I've tried watching on my MVPs and on the PC, and the results seem pretty similar....

other people seem to have got the Nebula cards running nicely - how?

I just bought a cheap USB TV plug in (AFA9015), and it works great at picking up my digital channels. Catch is, it seems to only record in TS. Now I assume, since TS is MPEG it should be straight forward to convert across.

When I try and convert it to MPEG2 or XViD (so I can save some space), it fails. When I try and do it from the command line with FFMPEG I get a Sampling rate 0 is not allowed in MP2 Error.

I think it does the trick when I do -acodec copy, but it comes up loads of non-monotone timestamp errors.

Am I doing something stupid. I assume loads of others have solved this so was just looking for a way to convert the TS to MPG properly. My guess at the moment is that the problem with the TS is that it stores three audio streams, one of which is subtitles.

Any help would be great.

i have looked for a DVR soft ware that will help me with this. i would like to try gbpvr. but what i need to do is record an all day event and be able to rewind and replay portions on a wim. the record must never stop. i thank i could do this with the Manuel record, how ever the file handling is something else. i would like my recording coped up in 1/2 hr or 1 hr files. i thought if i could make a guide for the svid in i could program 12hs of a fake 1/2 program. i would figure that the files would be named the name of my "fake show" all will be good.
can this be done? if not is there a better way or software

I recorded the first episode of Underbelly: Mr Asia last week while I was away, and I went to watch last night, and got audio - but only a black screen for video.

If I play with WMP - the video is there.

Did anyone else notice this behaviour?
All of my other TV3 HD recordings have been fine.
