First of all - thank you all for advice thus far.
So here's what happens - I hit live TV or guide. Takes about 6 seconds to start displaying video (ATSC OTA on Hauppauge 1250) and things seem to be working great.
Then I try to change a channel, have 5-10 seconds of delay and I'm thrown back to the menu screen. System is an Athlon 4850e, 4GB Ram, 780G mobo with latest drivers on XP. (I installed the aviva drivers and the free-codecs multi plack as advised on some other posts.) CPU load tops out around 38%, even on an NFL game with HD.
I'm a bit disappointed as I really have not heard any information from Comcast regarding this change over. But there was a newspaper article about it stating that Comcast was ditching analog and users would be required to get a box DTA within the next month?
So my question is this... I'm assuming all decrypting / converting from digital to anaolog is done with the DTA box on a per channel basis... or the user selects the channel to watch with the DTA tuner? So if that is the case I will need a channel changing device for GBPVR to continue to operate as it has...
What is a good performing channel changer that I should start purcahsing to get ready for the change over? Are there cheaper ones which operate consistently?
Now that I have .ts recording great in both HD QAM and SD dvbs, I am trying to watch them live on the client in file sharing mode. HD QAM works (and has always worked) great. The SD works great for anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes, then freezes. If I hit the play button, it immediately starts again for a random period of time until it freezes. I checked the server and the temp file is there and keeps growing. I checked it and it plays smoothly with VLC. All logs look like everything is fine from what I can tell. My only guess is that it drops a few frames or something and that the client does not like and it stops it, then it won't restart. Usually it just freezes, but sometimes it sends it back to the guide.
I have livetv preplay delay maxed out on the client. Is there anything else I can set that might let it autorecover?

I have looked through the forum and tried to figure this out on my own but unfortunately it's over my head. Can anyone help me get this box working? Or at least send me to the right documentation as where to start?
Looking through the resources folder (great work btw Hairy - high quality throughout), I see that the images are named things like "Graphics\Buttons\Glossy\Rounded\Normal\Button_Normal - Light.png".
Although the names are clear and match to the CS Blue themes I think that when using the SkinPlugin to browse the options the names should be more descriptive. Using the above example a better name might be "Graphics\Buttons\Glossy\Rounded\Grey.png".
I have GBPVR 1.3.7 and a PCH A-100.
mvpmcx2 runs great on the PCH so far and so does MovieWiz to play movie files ripped as .mp4 files.
I tried to see if I can set it up to play DVD images stored as ISO's to get DVD menu functionality in GBPVR. I used a car reference guide DVD as my testing DVD - it is an ISO file stored on a FreeNAS server (where all the other movie files are currently).
I can access the iso fine directly through the PCH network browser and it plays fine with all the menu functionality.
Through GBPVR, Video Library cannot open the sub-folder in which the ISO resides - the permissions are open (chmod 777). MovieWiz shows the file in the list. When I play it through MovieWiz, it attempts to start playing the ISO, shows the Popcorn Hour screen for a few seconds, and then comes back to the MovieWiz screen.

1. GBPVR logs
2. Putty output during this attempt (I ran mvpmcx2 manually through telnet for this trial). I also gave the mount command (just 'mount') initially just to confirm the mount went o.k., so you see the initial part has the output to the mount command.
3. My mvpmc share folder - so you can see how the share/mount commands are written.

After intermittent problems with various file types (many of which were solved by Sub), I eventually decided to construct a parallel "clean" build with as little as possible installed. I plumped for ffdshow as both the video and audio decoder - its Free, and don't have to pay Cyberlink or Core anything at all in the future (though I do own copies of both right now, they've given me endless pain). It also has HD audio options that the others don't.
But I've the following problems.
1. TS files - MPEG2
These playback audio but a blank screen video. The log implies everything is fine and ffdshow is being attached.
2. TS files - H264
These don't playback at all, and just switch back to the menu.
Using graphedt and good old Haali as the splitter both these files play back fine. It seems that ffdshow and TS reader can't be coming to an agreement on how to deal with the video in #1, and anything in #2.
Has anyone else got ffdshow to work with TS files in GBPVR.
ffdshow is fine for MKVs, DVD etc etc, its just TS files it has a problem with.
Its likely that I could get them working by installing Cyberlink. But given problems I've had with that in the past on other files (and its cost), I'd prefer to see if its possible to get ffdshow to work. outside of GBPVR ffdshow is happy to play anything I've thrown at it so far, so I'm hopeful its achievable.
I have been running a PVR box for about a year using XP MCE 2005 because it's easy to set up, but my OTA reception (ATSC) is not ideal for watching the local networks in HD. Forunately, I receive all of the local networks in HD over CATV QAM, so I would like to take advantage of the HVR-1600's QAM tuner to record HD in GBPVR.
Cable background: I have Comcast in Northern Virginia and receive the following channels plus others:
0 - multiple digital cable non-HD stations in the clear
1.4 - Fox
1.6 - PBS
1.10 - NBC
1.11 - ABC
109.5 - CBS
After some tinkering in the config and reinstalling of the Hauppauge software/drivers/codecs, I now am able to see myriad digital channels (mostly UNKNOWN / unusable) when I perform the digital channel mapping w/ autoscan. I am able to locate the ABC, CBS, and PBS HD stations and map them to their analog station numbers, but I'm not able to find the NBC and Fox stations in HD, just their non-HD counterparts (which show up on other channel numbers over QAM). Does anyone have any recommendations for picking up these stations? It is the last step in my GBPVR configuration.
Other config info: I have both the analog and digital sides of the HVR-1600 set up as device #1. The HVR-1600 is using system default for all of its settings.

The gbpvr rec. service somehow registers wake-up requests so windows wakes up for recordings. I've had a look on MSDN but I can't find out how to do this. Any pointers gratefully received.
