Even though I am a happy, and primarily "passive", user of gbpvr - I am sometimes interested in learning in new functionality in this excellent piece of software. My home setup as of today is multiple PC connected through a router to multiple Xbox (XBMC), with two external HD (sort of basic file servers). One of the PC is equipped with a Hauppauge HVR-1300, through which I record TV-shows, storing them on either the very PC on which they were recorded, or on an external (NW connected) HD.
All-in-all this setup is works excellent and I am actually investing in yet another old gen. Xbox for a fourth TV set (no, we are yet not in HD territory â and a used Xbox is extremely cheapâ¦..).
What I am however interested in is the Multi-record support that in some way should be available through the usage of TS Mux BDA Multiplexer, but I totally fail in understanding on how to set it up. From my perspective (after a lot of searches) there is nothing in the wiki, and nothing useful (from the newbie perspective) in to forum?
Just simply selecting the TS Mux option in the Misc 2 tab just ends up in 0 byte files, and I am guessing I am making some mistake sine I have stumbled across a lot of posts mentioning - Filesharing? â what is the connection to Multi-Record?
All-in-all, I am extremely satisfied with the simple, yet functional, way I am using gbpvr â and I feel another donation might be on itâs way â but how could I learn more on Multi-record?
I am running GBPVR 1.3.7 on a W2K8 server with 2 MediaMVP's. Due to the well known Vista problems which also apply to W2K8 I switched over to MVPMC (the 30/9/2008 version). This works well and snappy. Problem is however that after some time, which can be anywhere between 10 minutes and 30 minutes, the MediaMVP does not react to any key presses from the remote control. The red light acknowledges the receipt of the IR signal but nothing happens. After switching of the MediaMVP and on again everything works normal. No reboot of the MediaMVP or GBPVR is required.
This problem does not happen with the standard Hauppaugge dongles but with those I have other problems like restarting the GUI etc.
Has anybody an idea what is causing this problem with MVPMC?
I've been having some hard-lock trouble all of a sudden with my gb-pvr box (rather frustrating, as absolutely NOTHING has been changed), and a understandable side-effect has been missed recordings. There doesn't seem to be any easy way to see which recordings have failed though - the only thing I found was to go into the 'Ready' list, and poke into each show with a recent recording; only there would I see the 'Failed' recordings.
Several possibilities occurred to me, but it seems by far the simplest and most effective method would be to show 'Failed' recordings in the 'What's New' list.
1. My server is a true server (not homemade). It is an IBM Xserver. I do not - repeat DO NOT have a DVD drive in this server. I do NOT have a DVB card. All I use this software for is viewing recordings, period. I have everything configured, and I have intervideo windvd installed. However, on the MVP client I get no DVD menu option. So how do I playback DVD's? I have the DVD tab configured to use my hard drive as the DVD drive.
2. I have a PC client I have set to do streaming. However, none of my server configs show up in the client. I don't get the display of my plugins like I do on the MVP. Does the PC client not load the dongle.bin from the server? Shouldn;t the pc client look identical to the MVP?
Hi Folks, Ah yes I'm a dreaded newbie and this stuff is all pretty new to me. I have downloaded GBPVR on the advice of a friend who is running it on another Leadtek card and said it works much better than the software given with the card. Wunderbag! However, when trying to config the program doesn't seem to recognize/have the card on file and I have not been able to find another Leadtek card in the list which matches.... I think I tried all of them... All suggestions would be much appreciated and if it gets too technical for my small brain I can press-gang my more knowledgeable friend to help me.

A Merry Christmas to all! Just a minor thing I noticed after doing a complete re-install of gbpvr 1.3.7... my config is HVR-1600 (analog) -> gbpvr 1.3.7 -> Comskip.
Basic Observation - Deleting a recording doesn't get rid of the .aspect file... and therefore the resulting subdirectory is also not removed. I believe the fix is to add "aspects" to the config.xml tag <DeleteAdditionalExtensions>... might be a tweak for the next release. I couldn't find a reference to this issue in the forum.
More complete description - After about a week, I noticed that many of the subdirectories that hold the individual recordings were not being deleted after I removed the recording. When I went into these directories, all I found was a file named with the show/time and having a .aspect file extension. I don't remember this extension previously but I don't know if it comes as a result of my new hardware, upgraded gbpvr, or upgraded comskip. Anyway, it would seem that adding the aspects extension to the config.xml tag <DeleteAdditionalExtensions> would be the right way to go. If this doesn't do the trick I will post a follow up.
I could not find an answer to this question in the forums or FAQ, but apologies if I missed it somewhere.
My ATI display+tuner card has had the tuner stop working (analog via cable). I need to get a new tuner (they only seem to last about 2 years, my old Hauppage also died after 2 years, the Pinnacle one died after 2 years, etc). I note that the ATI one was junk because the image quality was never great and the recording system often crashed.
Anyway, I wanted to know if a USB2 card works as well as a PCI? The CPU is a 2GHz AMD part (single core) on a 3 year old PC. It seems to me that the USB host devices on the PC's motherboard should add no more load than the PCI slots, but I am not sure. Since these are still MPEG2 vs. MPEG4, the data rate will be higher, but well below the USB2 capability. Since I have to buy a new tuner, I figured I would ask before choosing one. The real point is picking which tuner puts the least load on the CPU and software.
Thoughts?
