I'm still worrying on the TS transcoding issues in the current build, and tried to see if an elegant work-around could be found. Unfortunately, I find more difficulties than solutions.

I've made a custom ffmpeg conversion string

I keep getting zero-length MPG files when I try to transcode this way, and see the following in my log file:

I've been looking for alternative (albeit free) software to use for watching digital TV since Pinnacle's own suite of software is pretty much garbage and I can't get enough good recommendations for the GBPVR software.

I decided to test it out, and despite everything I still cannot get it to receive any TV channels whatsoever.

After looking through the various wiki pages, I figured out how to get an XMLTV file imported into GBPVR. I am using the "MSN XMLTV scraper" program in order to download TV guide information into XML format so it can be imported into GBPVR. The MSN XMLTV program accurately finds all of my local programming, including Cox Communications (basic and extended), as well as plain, old OTA broadcasting. After importing the XML files into GBPVR (both the basic and extended Cox programming, as well as the basic OTA programming), GBPVR just hangs when I try to view the TV guide from the program itself.

Furthermore, when I try to select "Live TV" from the main menu options, it does nothing. The software just flickers for a brief second and then acts as if no action has been taken. All the other functions of GBPVR work flawlessly, but I have other programs I prefer to use... the main function of GBPVR was to be for TV viewing.

I suppose what I am getting at is, I need to know if I am doing something wrong in the way I am setting up my EPG, or if I am missing some small detail that is keeping the software from recognizing the input from the TV signal.

Before anyone replies about the PCTV HD not being capable of watching analog channels, I realize this. I am mainly trying to watch premium digital and HD channels available through my cable provider because the Pinnacle software is lackluster at best for receiving that content.

Anyway, any help or advice would be greatly GREATLY appreciated.

I have had GBPVR v0.97 installed & running fine for ages with no problems. I don't use an EPG and only use the S-VHS input on my Hauppauge PVR150 to copy programs from my satellite STB / HDD recorder.

Anyway, I have had to re-install my HTPC and thought I'd install the latest GBPVR version (1.3.7). I now have that installed ok but am having trouble setting up the capture source. When I go into Capture Sources and add the PVT150 device with NONE slected for EPG source (the same settings I had in v0.97), I don't get the option to add any channels & if I then close the config application and then go back into it, my newly created capture source has dissapeared.

Am I doing something wrong as it has been a long time since I originally setup the system. Any help would be welcome.

This is happening consistently on one recording (The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). It was recorded from BBC1 using my PVR500 and we don't normally have any playback issues with analogue recordings.

I'm using the native Recordings plugin and each time I try to play it, the MVP screen goes black as if it's attempting playback then the MVP reboots. The only things I can see unusual about it are the size of the file (3.8GB) and the length of the filename. I've watched the first minute or so using WMP and it plays fine with no glitches or loss of AV sync.

Log included - last attempt at about 16:13:36 today.

i just got a WinTv-HVR-950 USB HDTV adapter the other day. i installed there software and the recording options are not that good. so after a google search i ended up here.

I opened up the Configuration program and clicked on Capture Sources than clicked "Add". I typed in a name of the source, selected my recording source as "Digital Recording Plugin" and configured its settings so the device type is "Hauppauge HVR-950". i selected the EPG Source as "DVB EPG Broadcast", and the Channel Changer as "No Channel Changer Required".

When i click Update EPG it searches for channel listings and stuff and saves it, but nothing appears in the channels Grid Box.

After doing that i clicked "Map digital channels to EPG channels". it starts scanning all of the channels up to channel 68. as it scans the channels the preview box stays black. and when it is done scanning the channels it says "No Channels found. Please check your signal and configuration settings."

What is wrong with this? the tv adapter is plugged into the cable and it works with the WinTv program that it comes with.

Often I have to watch videos from different sources and aspect ratios on my fixed 16:10 TV.
The problem is usualy to keep the original aspect ratio of the movies, but fill the available screen area - even if it results in some clipping.

For a 4:3 movie (with auto I have pillarbox on the sides) this would actually mean to stretch the horizontal size to fill the screen width, stretch the vertical size with the same ratio and then clip the bottom and the top of the movie.

For a 16:9 movie (with "Auto" I have a letterbox at the top and the bottom) this would actually mean to stretch the vertical size to fill the screen height, stretch the horizontal size with the same ratio and then clip the left and the right of the movie.

At the moment I had to set up different Aspect ratios in the ini file for all original aspect ratios. My son does it touch of a finger on his ipod touch...

Is it already possible with a touch of an INI code or is it a wish?

I'm using GB PVR v 1.0.16 on both the main PC (Athlon X2-5000, XP Pro sp2) and the client (HP dv6000 laptop, Vista Home Prem. sp1). I'm also running 3 Hauppauge MVP's using GB PVR with the XP box as the server, and everything works flawlessly.... EXCEPT, the new HP laptop, that I want to run in client mode, just to watch live TV from the server, will not run with the client box checked in config. If I uncheck the client box, it runs, and plays stored MPEG's off of the server fine. It makes no difference whether I choose streaming or file sharing, as long as the configure as client box is checked, neither GBPRV or PVRX2 will run (GBPVR gets as far as the splash screen, then disappears, and is not running in task manager, and PVRX2 gets as far as a window border, then hangs and has to be stopped with task manager, along with the tray app. Anyone have any ideas....??
Note: the trial version of Beyond TV works well in client mode.

Sorry but I just can't get my head around this one. I just built a great new PC client. Now I want to use my Harmony remote to control it. I have an extra PVR 150 card with IR sensor. Is there any way to use this to control a PC client?

Where I am lost is in set up. Do I have to add a capture source and then select client mode?

I have Vista 64 so that may be another issue. I have not yet been able to install the Hauppauge software. I am not sure what I need to install to get the IR to work.

Otherwise, is usb IR my best choice?

I tried to play a file from the recordingsmenu with the filename "Top 2000 à gogo - NED3 - 2008-12-26.mpg". This locks up mvpmcx2 on the PCH. Changing the "à" to "a" fixed it. It wasn's a hard lock up, since I could press the power button on my PCH remote to go back to gaya.

I just got an AVerMedia A577 Digital/Analog TV/FM Hybrid Tuner (Expresscard) for my Dell 7120 Laptop. The card tested well with PowerCinema, Meedio, SageTv, J.River amongst others using limited trial versions. I would prefer to use GBPVR as the interface, plugin options and excellent reviews and support are what I am seeking. I have included the FilterCheck Log, and perhaps there is a solution, so that the A577 can be detected by GBPVR.
