A little bit different kind of video card question. I'm using the family PC (Dell Dimension 2300, 1.8GHz, PVR-350) for GBPVR which is causing some recording problems. The problems are usually encountered when the PC is bogged down while browsing graphics intensive web sites, like youtube or others with animation. If the computer is bogged down when a recording starts, the entire recording is unwatchable. If it occurrs in the middle of the recording, short segments are unwatchable. Either scenario has a very negative WAF. The std video on this machine is listed as "Intel integrated AGP graphics". I don't know exactly what that is, but I'm suspecting that it means that the CPU is doing all the work. If it would help lessen the CPU loading, I'd like to add a cheap video card that can process web graphics/animations in hardware. I'm thinking that it wouldn't take much of a video card to do this but, of course, I could be wrong. Would a cheap video card, say something like this free up some cpu cycles? If not, are there any other relatively cheap options?
Question for upgrading, not entirely sure if I should.
1) I'm a little unclear with digital cable, I have a STB to receive digital cable (no pay channels) and I am wondering does the 150 will record and playback at the digital quality?

2) Can anyone verify that this lineup is correct and these channels are being broadcasted for free?
3) What would be minimal (or better) system requirements for Hi Def recordings and playback? I saw someone mention that recording does not require much CPU but what about playback? I most likely will upgrade my entire system if the Clear QAM channels are correct. Thanks for input
Since installing GB-PVR every time I put my XP Pro SP3 computers into standby they wake up within half an hour. Is there any way to stop this behavior?
Note that this happens even if there are no recordings scheduled.
i copied some jpg's to "c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\media\MenuArt\Default" (latter two folders didn't exist, so created...?) but still no background image.
i'll check the pvrx2.log when i get home but wanted to check...

I tried a live test of GB-PVR last night, with the wife. I scheduled Dancing with the Stars to record at 8:00pm. We (the wife and I) commenced watching around 8:45 or so. All seemed well for awhile.
Then about 40 minutes in to the show, I couldn't get it seek past the commercials, it would skip around and end up back near where I started trying to seek. No matter what I did, I couldn't move forward in the file any longer. Yes, as far as I could tell it would continue playing ok, but seeking would just keep bouncing back and forth. No, we definitely had not caught up to the live feed, not even close. The Wife was unamused, unimpressed, and uninspired by my great project; I received something of a 'look' as she picked up the TiVo remote...
Further, after we finished watching the show from the DirecTiVo instead, I went back to GB-PVR and found even though the show had ended 40 minutes earlier, GB-PVR still claimed it was recording; the show still showed as Pending rather than Ready. The file itself was 8.79GB and showed the last modified time at 9:32pm (correct, 1:30 show starting at 8:00pm with the default 2 minute pad). I had to restart the recording service to get it to stop - at that point the Recording showed as Ready.
I tried playing back the show from the Recordings menu. Same basic effect, all is ok until in the neighborhood of 40 minutes in. If I'm seeking rapidly, at that point it jumps almost to the end of the recording, and the times on the playbar go crazy - 18+ hours total time, minutes reeling off like seconds. Attempting to seek backwards in the file from there encounters the same looping effect as before, I can go back a little with some effort, but it will often just jump back to near the end again. Sometimes seeking backwards actually goes forwards.
If I start the playback over again from the beginning, and sort of 'sneak' up to the point where it goes nuts, I can slowly seek (ie one button press at a time rather than holding down the button) through that area without it skipping to the end. But the playbar times go nuts, and seeking becomes very difficult and unpredictable (ie, seeking forward often jumps backwards, etc.)
I've thus far not had the patience to just let it play through the troubled area, but I see no evidence that there's any hard wall or disruption in the file where playback would fail.
Then I went back and checked a test recording of 'Armageddon' I had made a couple of nights ago (mostly to see if the machine would wake up from standby at 3am and record - it did). Sure enough, that recording has all the same problems. AFAIK the recording process ended correctly with Armageddon.
Logs are attached, if anything is to be seen there.
I have EWA working on the host machine using the localhost address, and I can access it from another computer on my LAN using http://192.168.1.2:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx. What I do not understand is how to access it from outside my LAN. I know what IP my router is currently using but this does not identify the actual machine on the LAN. How is this supposed to work?
Sorry for vagueness - this is a little hard to describe (and search for). I recorded the NFL overnight but as it's over 3 hours long I dont want to watch it in one sitting. When I stop watching the recording and do something else, GBPVR seems to be forgetting where I'm up to and doesn't start playback from where I left off. I'm trying 'resume' but it's not doing what I thought it would. What am I doing wrong?
