After considerable time spend I believe I have a workable use case for the standby button on the MCE remote.
The idea is simple.
When the PVR/TV/Amplifier are in standby you press once and voila, on go the PVR/TV/Receiver
When everything is on and you press again the standby button on the MCE remote the PVR/TV/Amplifier all go to standby unless the PVR is recording, then it waits with standby till the recording is finished.
All this without a universal programmable remote.
There may be many ways to get this working, I have chosen for the following approach.
Windows is set to go to standby after 5 minutes of inactivity. Playing music is enough to prevent going to standby, all user activities or watching recordings/video is also enough to prevent going to standby.
When a recording is ongoing and the PC is awake then, using HIP, the standby key has two functions.
When PVRX2.exe is not running, pressing the standby key wakes the TV, the Amplifier, resumes video wtih fullresume.exe and starts PVRX2.exe
When PVRX2.exe is running pressing the standby key puts the TV and amplifier to standby and kills PVRX2.exe (this is needed because sometimes after playing audio windows is not able to decide the PC should go to standby.)
When the PC is in standby the standby key on the MCE remote is not managed by HIP but will wake the PC.
Using a small autoit script I detect whether is PC is woken automatically or by a user action. If it is a user action I execute the same actions as when the standby key is pressed without PVRX2.exe running.
On the MCE remote I have an additional key to put the TV in standby or wake it up again for when listening to music (yes, music is very important to me and my whole collection is on the central server in lossless format)
What I still need to do is to add some code that will put the TV/Amplifier in standby and kill PVRX2.exe when the PC wants to go to standby in case I fall in sleep while watching video and the video has ended. This can be done using the WM_POWERBROADCAST message and the PBT_APMSUSPEND event but it must be finished within two seconds.
In case someone is interested I can post the autoit script and some other settings
I see gbpvr in the config for the hd homerun but don't see the hd homerun in the sources list in the config of gbpvr. I know others are using the HD Homerun with GBPVR. How do I get this setup? I scanned my channels and can view them in vlc player but I haven't been able to figure out how to detect the device in the GBPVR config.
Previously been using XP. I just did a fresh install of 1.2.13 on Vista. Capture source config ok but I can't access the TV Guide or LiveTV when running pvrx2.
This is still a blank database with no EPG yet and pvrx2 hangs with divide by zero errors. Logs attached.
I'm new to Vista. I've done this installation twice with the same results. Help, what am I doing wrong here?
The Problem:
I've been using GBPVR since this past winter; I love it. The most vexing problem so far is that I will occasionally get partial recordings, this has been happening since I've been using GBPVR. For example, if a show starts at 8:00pm and ends at 9:00pm, I may only get the first 2 minutes or the first 35 minutes of the show; the length seems random. I think GBPVR thinks it is still recording the entire show because the time stamp on the recording is 9:00pm.
What happened:
This morning, I finally caught it in the act. I started a manual recording of the Olympics that was to go from 1:10 am to 5:00 am. For the first time ever, I decided to try to watch a show while it was being recorded; I use Media Player Classic to watch the recordings. As I was watching, the recording ended. I thought it was because I was watching it while recording. I restarted the service and the recording started again, I watched the hard drive light flash for a while (I wasn't watching the recording), then it stopped, I restarted the service again; we went through this a few more times. At 3:11 am, I rebooted the computer, the recording started, but yet again, it stopped at 3:36 am. I captured this log at 3:49 while it was recording. All the while, GBPVR status always showed "Recording XXIX Summer Olympics".

I'm amazed that this one recording stopped so many times. I've recorded about 5 of these 4 hour Olympic blocks and haven't lost anything till now. Since I've been paying attention to the problem (since summer), I've only notice it happen on NBC (KUSA-DT, ATSC). I got a few partial American Gladiators recordings, see 07/28/08 logs for one that happened when I wasn't looking.
I'm using v1.2.13; no plug-ins installed that didn't come with GBPVR. These recordings are done on a FusionHDTV5 RT Lite over ATSC. I also have a WinTV HVR-1600 in the machine that wasn't recording this morning as the Fusion was recording the Olympics.
As I've been writing this, the recording has stopped about 6 times. Sometimes it stopped after 20 seconds, sometimes after 25 minutes. I've watched the segments; the shorter ones seem slightly jumpy (like a bad signal), the longer ones seem perfect. I wouldn't rule out that I'm getting a bad signal and this confuses something so it looses the signal (if that's possible) and records nothing (it doesn't even record black) even though the signal returns. But this theory seems suspicious when the recording seems so perfect.
Just a small bug that I noticed in version 1.2.13. When volume control is set to "Master" in config.exe, left and right cursor control volume when watching LiveTV.
Issue 1: pressing left during LiveTV reduces volume to 50% and not lower than that.
Issue 2: pressing right during LiveTV shuts down gbpvr and the complete PC.
Although not crucial, it would be nice if it could be fixed.
Just a small bug that I noticed in version 1.2.13. Direct channel selection can be done when viewing LiveTV by pressing a digit. A second digit within a timeout period selects channels above 9. This works fine except for channels that have an identical double channel number (11, 22, 33, 44, etc). For some reason, those don't work. It would be nice if this could be fixed.

This is a follow-on from from my timeline issues (I have applied the patch) and it seems something else weird is happening. I was supposed to record 11:40pm to 12:40pm on the night of the 15th. The thing seems to have started OK, but stopped 4 minutes later. I checked Eventviewer and the system log for the Server shows:

Hi, I had GBPVR playing the freeview HD 'preview' channel yesterday; that channel plays about 10 minutes (guestimate) of programs as a preview. When it got to the end of the preview I briefly saw a test pattern (nothing to do with GBPVR I assume), but then as the screen cleared (I guess the next preview was about to start), GBPVR suddenly displayed the 'no signal detected' screen and froze. Nothing I could do brought it back to life. I eventually killed PVRX2 with the task manager and when I started it up again it was all going smoothly (so the signal was definitely still there).
I've had a few other experiences where if the signal is weak, GBPVR seems to freeze up or stop responding. (I had this with a weak signal, but I'm now connected to a good roof-top aerial.)
I'm wondering if - when the program ended - maybe there was a brief pause in the data stream? Could this have confused and killed GBPVR?
Another issue (probably not related though) - sometimes I've been watching a channel for 10-15 minutes (eg TV1 (non-ac3) olympics) and I suddenly start getting audio/video stuttering, the audio eventually disappearing altogether. Changing channels to something else and back again normally fixes it.
I've seen there are several threads related to stuttering and managing processor affinity. It seems the recommendation is to share GBPVR over multiple cores, is this correct? In my case, it already is running over multiple cores (4) - should I limit this to 1 or 2?

Hi, I've just set up a new HTPC (Core 2 Quad, clean install of XP, SP3, all patches) with an HVR2200 capture card and nvidia 8500GT graphics card. My eventual goal is to connect this up to a widescreen lcd, but for now I'm just viewing on a 19" pc lcd (running at 1280x1024), connected via standard vga connector (not dvi or hdmi). I'm watching freeview DVB-T in New Zealand.
When I run GBPVR the window size appears to be 4:3, so the picture appears 'tall and skinny'. I cycled (via F7) through the different rendering shapes (fill, pillar box, etc... (or whatever the terms)), but none of them made the picture better (most made it worse). And the overall window size stayed the same at 4:3. If I maximized the window this made no difference.
In the Config tool on the Playback tab I've tried changing 'Aspect Ratio Control' to 16x9 and back to 4x3, but it seems to make no difference to the GBPVR window. [I see it changes the <TvShape> setting in the config.xml file, so that seems ok, but it doesn't change the end result.]
Any ideas why I cannot fix this aspect ratio? Is GBPVR ignoring the config.xml setting or overriding it, detecting instead the actual aspect ratio of the attached monitor?
I Know the hardware can handle this all because the aspect ratio is correct if I run PowerCinema (which came with the capture card).
One other issue - if I maximize the GBPVR window I still see the title bar and window borders - is there a way to make it 'truely fullscreen'?
I had a strange situation when the 2nd tuner (Device#2) on my HVR2200 stopped working.
LiveTV reported no signal and I checked config->capture sources and found that Device#1 was working but not #2. So I could not watch any of the channels. pvrx2 logs enclosed.
Device#2 came back when I rebooted but I had to wait for my other tuner card to finish recording first.
Does anyone know why this dual tuner card would lose one of the tuners like this and is there any way to watch in GBPVR with the remaining tuner?
