Hi from a beginner...

I hope you can help with some basic queries before I start on installing & configuring GBPVR please.

I have been using ShowShifter for many years to watch DVB-T using a Hauappage Nova USB.

Having decided something more was needed I have bought two Hauppage Nova-T 500 pci cards and planned on finding suitable software. My plan was to evaluate GBPVR, MediaPortal, etc.

First off, I installed one of the Nova-T 500 cards and installed the latest drivers from the Hauppage website. Strange things started to happen when the second card was installed!

I'm running XP Pro SP2 so I've installed the Microsoft Hotfix for multiple tuners since then.

I tried a new install of MediaPlayer using the latest TVServer engine and client. Sad to say it was a nightmare of instability and error messages, just with one Nova-T 500 card. After many, many hours I was still unable to satisfactorily configure the software. I'm not a quitter but sometimes it's important to admit defeat!!

ShowShifter and the old USB tuner aren't happy alongside the new hardware so the family are giving me grief about the absence of TV on the PC!!

So....

This weekend I plan to install GBPVR, wishing I had started with this earlier.

Can I ask if anybody can give me a heads up on any problems I might find with the following please?

a) Using GBPVR with one Hauppage Nova-T 500 pci card.

b) Using GBPVR with two Hauppage Nova-T 500 pci cards.

c) Either of the above with a 45 Button Hauppage Remote.

Obviously I do not have any log files yet but I have included a summary of my system at the end of the post.

Any tips for installation or configuration generally would be really appreciated.

Finally, what patches, hotfixes and codecs, etc should I be using, or are these included in the installation/download package?

Anyone use the Gyration remote? Does it work out of the box? If not what did you have to do to get it to work?

I have been watching for info on the Hauppauge HVR-2250. Has anyone got one of these working in the US yet? I'd like to replace my PVR-500 with one of these. I am running two MVPs.

I am going to use GBPVR hooked to my new Sony 60" XBR2. I am using the latest community skin. In the standard Video Library application, what is the optimal size for the folder.jpg , and jpgs' that I will capture to use for each episode of a show? I have imported or downloaded a few from the internet and they aren't very big. I haven't hooked to the TV yet, only my LCD computer monitor. I don't mind creating them from screen caps, just looking to see if there is a maximum size I am restricted by, or if anyone can share the size they use on a similar display. Thanks...

I like the way you can configure EWA for which tab you want to display. I just would like the guest account to have different settings than the main account. That way I can just post pictures.

After a large session of adding episode names after viewing with VLC, getting rid of repeats and general tidying up - I have yet another request Sire. Would it be possible to configure the viewing program rather than being restricted to VLC? I ask because I have been doing a lot of going backwards and forwards using VideoRedo to manually cut pre, post and adverts. It would be nice to be have the option of using that as the viewer in this case.

When I use the manager to run the renamer I get exactly what I want. My files are renamed perfectly. When I run it in my post-processing batch file I get periods inserted where the spaces should be. Is there a way to get it to rename the files without the periods from a batch file?

I hope I not asking a dumb question, but I've been searching around and can't seem to find what I'm looking for, so I'm asking. Is there any way to get the additional show information that the SchedulesDirect Utilities provides for the EWA to show up in the normal GBPVR TV Guide?

I used to use a utility called EPGExtra for this, but doesn't seem to be supported under the new architecture, and I can't seem to find any new utilities that replace it. Since you are already doing exactly what I want for the EWA, I thought I'd ask.

I´m looking for a nice software to use with my Media MVP, and found this...

But the thing is that i only run Linux Fedora Core boxes... no Windows in my home...

So, is there a Linux version of this software or does enyone know eny good ones?!

I prefer the new simpler mini guide that you get when you press "Control G" rather than the original one.

However when I press the guide button on the MCE remote the old style mini guide shows up. Is there anyway of changing this so it would show the new style mini guide?
