I have several items of mainly Sony Hi-Fi equipment and some useful speakers, all with lots more life in it (but it's largely disconnected since we downsized).

I've also (working in my lounge) a 28" regular, old fashioned, TV connected to a "top of the range" terrestrial aerial; which gives me excellent Freeview reception and all the terrestrial stuff - as well as SKY through a regular SKY dish and box.

Other TVs are also available and connected. I also acquired an installed, currently spare, Sky dish when I bought the house.

My whole property (main building and garden office) has recently been networked using Zyxel mains 'HomeNetworking' adaptors and I can thus 'see' three computers and the Internet, on-demand, anytime, wherever I choose to sit and work.

My present central objective is simple enough - to replace the large TV in the lounge with a 'hidden' PC controlling all my music, radio, TV and photo storage media needs; driving all output through a replacement 28"-32" flatscreen display capable of showing HD programming.

I'm inclined towards buying a LOW COST, 'powerful', off-the-shelf PC with at least 500GB of storage attached or imbedded, as good a sound card as I can afford, connected to my 'home network' and with whatever Hauppauge devices I need to receive any 'off-air' and 'off-dish' signals I can find - and all that through software (but preferably NOT Windows Media Center).

I'd like to do that using 'regular and safe' PC applications and kit that I can install and set up myself and at THE LOWEST COST I CAN ACHIEVE. I'm not at all averse to buying on eBay.

Ideally I'd like to spend between £300 - £400 on the kit and do all the work myself. That way I'll spend less than a new TV with built in Hard Drive and Freeview, FreeSat - and I suspect I'll get a lot more functionality.

I recognise that it's a bit of a tall order but it'll be a great project to keep me active until Christmas and I'm hoping to produce a useable (even marketable) e-book on the subject when I'm through.

Would anyone care to offer me any advice or experience that might start me off ... please ?

I'm far down the path of converting to Vista, went to install GBPVR and found the 1.2.13 survival guide says that the Hauppauge MVP dongle "unfortunately has issues with Vista". It then recommends mvpmc. My questions:

1. What are the "issues"? (E.g., I wonder if they might be not so severe that one might be willing to accept them.)

2. Has there been any progress/news from Hauppauge re resolving the "issues"? (I don't see newer software on their web site.)

3. How concerned about mvpmc should I be, especially as it relates to the Wife Acceptance Factor? (I can't tell as there are no GBPVR screen snapshots on the mvpmc web site.) I.e.,

3A: Will the screen look different running GBPVR on mvpmc than on the Hauppauge dongle?

3B: Are there any functions of GBPVR which would appear not to work or work differently using mvpmc versus the Hauppauge dongle?

I can't get this channel to work, it doesn't seem to appear in a scan and if I try and entry from an old scan cache file I get a blank screen and no sound. Does anyone else have it working who can post the relevant line from a scan cache file?

I'm pretty new to this forum so please appologize if I put my post in the wrong place.
First of all thanks to Sub for this great work! I'm using it for quite a while now and I really like it.

To make it short: I had to switch from my PVR-350 to a Nova-SE2. Since then my MVP does not work any longer. I get the menu, can even watch previous recorded files but no live TV. The TV screen just goes black for a bit and then the server for the MVP crashes.

To my hardware: A 1.8 GHz AMD Duron with 512 MB Ram, Hauppauge Nova-SE2 and a MVP. It is a clean install of windows xp sp2.
DVB-S is working, I can watch TV with wintv and even see a picture when scanning the sattelite. The scanning crashes every now and then despite the Gvpvrtsmon patch. Installed is the lates version 1.2.13.

The system was working for a long time as long as I could use the PVR-350.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Not sure exactly what's going on, but It has happened twice now. I thaught it was a fluke before, but twice in a month is more than a fluke. The only thing I've done rescently is change my power supply. Went from a stock Ultra 400w ps to a 420w Corsair modular ps. When I wake up, pc is cold and green light is on front. I have to turn off the PS and then turn back on and then I can restart the pc.

Any idea how I can figure out what's going on?

(there are no signes of p/s failure, it's not too hot and not making any excess noise)

Is there support for TechniSat SkyStar HD2 card (DVB-S2) ?
BDA or WDM ? Is it much work to get it working ?

TechniSat SkyStar 2 BDA driver doesn't support DISEQC, but WDM driver does, is it possible to get also GBPVR working with TechniSat SkyStar 2 WDM driver ?

I recently installed a DVB-T tuner adapter in gbpvr. gbpvr scans the channels and finds a channel called TV3 (AC-3). I would like to use an xml source for the epg rather than the epg in the DVB-T stream since that is basically only today and next day.

But my epg (coming from an xmltv feed) has that same channel listed as TV 3 in the xml file. The xml file is created via an extract from the epg from a satellite. Short of editing this file before passing it to gbpvr, is there a way in the config application to change the internal channel name to match that in the incoming xml file but also ensure that gbpvr tunes to the right channel when recording?

Also currently when I load up both sources, if the same channel exists with the same name in the xmltv feed as well as in the DVB-T channel list, the DVB-T channel doesn't show up at all in the epg, data or not even though the channel shows up on the config application in the Edit Recording Source option. There is no epg information for the DVB-T source since I have not selected a choice for the epg information. None of the choices (apart from xmltv plugin) are relevant for this source type.

I have recently started trying to get GBpvr set up to use.

I signed up for a trial of SD and I can't get any tv listings to show up in GBpvr. It shows all my channels but doesn't show any program info. I have tried updating the EPG several times but nothing changes.

Over time it would be nice for me (since I am almost exclusively a media extender user) to see the following
changes in GB-PVR

1. mpeg-ts to the mvp

2. option of using several programs for transcoding

3. transcode and play a recorded file on-the-fly with specified profile I've been having some success on the pch getting sound on bad streams with one of

mencoder xx -ovc copy -oac copy -of mpeg -o yy
mencoder xx -ovc copy -fourcc h264 -oac pcm -of avi yy

4. Option to Swap Prev and Next and Colour Key navigation on the TV guide.

5. Support for the keyboard on the NMT.
