Is there a free schedule listing service? I'm sure this is the magic question and all I see is SchedulesDirect. I also only need to record a few channels a few times/month so don't need a full schedule listing service. What advice can you provide?

Hi, I have 3 PVR tuners in my box, one of them causes the recordings to have bad audio on only 3 channels all other channels are perfect, so I disabled the bad channels on the bad tuner but for some reason it it still keeps recording shows with that tuner... is it because when I program something to be recorded it also sets the turner at that time?

Hey guys, I have been picking up pieces here and there for my first setup, but now I am at a bit of a crossroads.

I have a P4 and a P3 computer, the P4 is an old compaq EVO, compact desktop type case. It only has two PCI slots for expansion...

The P3 is an old computer I had, that is in a big case, lots o PCI slots.

I know that the wiki says the P3 can run the software fine, however will I notice a big jump using the P4? I guess I could always bite the bullet and buy a mobo and processor, however I am trying to avoid that.

I have a new Video Card, New Sound Card, and an older TV Capture card. All say they will play nice with either system.

What do people recommend, especially for my first system?

Alright, so. StandardButtonOrigin is defined in a placement in baseskin.xml in both Blue and CommunitySkin3. It take it to mean this is the well, origin value of the standard button lists. Fair enough, I'm on board so far.

With this in mind, should I, in my plugin, be able to access it directly as if it were a placement in the plugin's xml file? That is, remove any mention of the button list from my xml, and just rely on StandardButtonOrigin, the idea being to pick up default values as defined by the skin, rather than my own.

And if I do, what risks am I taking? Is this a placement that all skins [/i]should[/i] have, or am I exchanging convenience in one place for inconvenience in another - namely, no button list at all for skins that don't have StandardButtonOrigin.

Also - I say 'should' be able to access, since attempting to use it as a placement without it being defined in my plugin's skin.xml gives me an error. (But one crises at a time...)

Aaaannnnddd...

I admit to being baffled by the values supplied in the location (loc=) defined for StandardButtonOrigin. Blue's loc is 12,12 - but that's not where it's being put. (Or it is and I just don't understand what is going on).

If I copy the line to my own skin, it is rendered as 12%,12%, as I would expect. But buttons are nowhere near 12% (for an x value anyway) in Video Library, for example.

So, do loc values have a different meaning when defined in baseskin.xml? Or is there something else going on that I'm not understanding?

I'll happily accept the latter (so much of my work with skins involved random fuddling with numbers), but am anxious to get a better feel for why I'm seeing what I am.

Well my problem is i just bought a 750gb sata drive and it gets detected when going through the initial sys check on boot up but it hands at trying to identify the size of the drive, and will not boot to windows or from CD rom as it doesnt get that far in start up. Is this a problem with the motherboard not being able to handle large sata drives, i have a 320gb sata that is working fine. Could it be a HDD issue?

I have tried the HDD in my other comp as well and is also rather old and it did the same things so i am not sure if it is the HDD or the motherboards which can not handle the size issue

Similarly, which is correct?
1) The staff is happy.
2) The staff are happy.

And,
1) The staff gave away its food.
2) The staff gave away their food.
Personally, I vote for 1) in all cases, but leaning a bit towards 2) in the third case... Google turns up many of both. Dictionary.com says "staff" is plural, which would indicate 2).

Excuse my ignorance on the following questions but my current setup is fairly simple via STBs and composite capture.

I am interested in getting direct capture from DVB-T (Virginmedia) or DVB-S (SKY or Freesat) as an addition to my current setup, firstly to avoid blasters and secondly to get recordings that do not go through an analogue stage.

Am I correct in saying that the DVB-S/T card/box does not need an MPEG2 hardware encoder as the digital stream is directly recordable with GBPVR with BDA drivers?

Am I correct in my suspision that the VirginMedia route is out due to encrytion issues?

Do I need a DVB-S2 card/box for UK freesat or will a cheap ebay box like this work?

Are there some specific specs that I should be looking for in the device to get HD? Does it need to output MPEG4 for this?

Is a USB2.0 device likely to be as good as PCI?

Will a 2.8GHz P4 with an ATI9550 be up to HD playback to 1024x768 Plasma, I assume 720p?

I am basically trying to do this on the cheap, I don't really need another capture device but I wanted to play with the new HD broadcasts on Freesat.

Basically, will an HVR-1300 and an HVR-4000 work together with a STB and one remote control?

I want to start receiving DVB-S (mainly BBC HD) via Freesat through my Sky dish. At present I capture composite (yuk) video from the SCART output of my standard Sky STB, and my HVR-1300 IR blaster controls it nicely through irremote.

Can I add an HVR-4000? I see this doesn't have an IR blaster, just an IR receiver so I won't be able to use it to capture from and control the Sky STB (which I need to continue to do for the movie channels I pay for). Will the remote and IR hardware on the HVR-1300 work with GB-PVR to control the satellite channels the HVR-4000 will recieve as well as continuing to control the Sky STB via the blaster?

Specifically, does the HVR-1600 have any Vista issues? I read a problem with 4GB and Vista, but I'm only going to have 2GB.

Also, any generic issues with GB-PVR and Vista? I plan on switching off UAC and search, etc. - are there any other things I should do?

i just bought a widescreen monitor for my HTPC, however, i set it to the 16:9 format under the config menu and everything is marvey doodle but my playback is not widescreen.



is this due to my PVR150MCE not being "able" do display widescreen formats? or is it something i'm not doing right?

btw, its a 20.1 monitor if that helps any, i think the resolution is 1600x1200
