You all can read from my specs listed in my signature what I have. In February of 09, no more analog signals will be available in my area unless i buy converter boxes. This leads into my questions....

1.) I currently receive basic cable through a local cable company, i boost the signal and then split it 4 times for my main gb-pvr box (the two pvr500 cards), assuming i do not want to buy converter boxes, which cards will i need to replace the pvr500's in order to still receive and record TV?

2.) Assuming that i have to update my cards, I figure it is time to go all out. What cards will I need to receive and record HD as well as the normal basic cable channels?

3.) I currently use schedules direct. What will i have to do to accomodate what i still receive for basic cable as well as any HD capability i add?

I have tried very hard to look through the forums and the wiki and on these three issues it seems that i can't find a straightforward simple answer. There is a ton of info all spread out and disorganized. The goal of this post is to centralize the answers to questions many of us will have when February '09 rolls around.

Hi guys, I am trying to setup GB-PVR on my PCH and I am able to Telnet to my computer successfully. But when I try to run GB-PVR, I get blank screen and seem like my PCH hang because I have to unplug power to get it working again. MY PCH currently has the latest firmware 01-15-080330-14-POP-402 and GB-PVR is 1.29. I also did apply the patch and added

After being in the UK for a number of years I have never had sky plus or Virgin Plus. My PVR with GBPVR was set up to record TV from free view. It is great, I can record 3 programs at once.

I recently got Virgin Plus, was a bit sad to say goodbye to the recording feature of GBPVR, of course I'll still use it for AVI's.

I thought, great, commercial product, this is going to be more robust that GBPVR, no updates, nothing required. How wrong I was, it has crashed twice on me now while watching recorded TV. The fast forward/rewind feature is crap, x2, x3, x6, x16, etc. Takes a while to fast forward the ads quickly. GBPVR is so much better! never crashes, does everything no problem.

Has anyone had these issues with Virgin Plus? Is the user interface when watching recordings as difficult as I think?

I was wondering if there were any? I used to have my PVR connected to the network, I just did all that via mapped drives. Now I have to plug in the network cable, etc. Is there a plug in where you can select a source and destination directory/file to copy??

What I would like is one that you could just select two directories and then it would run an external command with the arguments passed though which would then call robocopy (still the best copy utility!).

I would use it to copy from USB key/Hard drive to local disk so I can watch with MyVideos..

I've been getting confusing results.

First gbpvr was recording dvr-ms with no processing
Then I downloaded cyberlink to do processing and gbpvr converted files to mpg
Now I want to use stattik script for the two pass compression so I've turned off gbpvr comskip and processing, but I am using parallelprocessing (for comskip) and postprocessing (for stattik).

But gbpvr generated .mpg files last night rather than the expected dvr-ms as before.

The only reason is if when I set up the recording, it had the convert to xvid/mpg setting, and this was stored.

So although config said no processing, it carried on with the processing into an mpg because it had been set before and remembered with the program setting.

Is this right?

Otherwise I have no idea what is going on where :confused:

If so I need to go back and delete all my future schedule and reschedule them using my 'no processing' settings.

I have gbpvr 1.2.9 with a haup pvr 250 with analogue cable tv and have recently noticed a strange issue.

I can only use EITHER WinTV or GBPVR in the same windows session. If I choose WinTV, it works great, but then GBPVR will not work (black screen, no sound) until I reboot. After rebooting, GBPVR will work great, but if I close gbpvr then WinTV will not work (black screen, no sound) until I reboot. Basically, whatever application I start first is the only one that will work until I reboot.

Ideas?

Lately I've been burning a lot of DVDs to DVD-RW discs because a friend's VCR is broken, they don't have a DVR or HTPC, and they just can't miss Beauty and the Geek every week.

The problem is every time I burn a DVD, ImgBurn stops and asks me if I really want to overwrite the existing data. I don't see this prompt because I think imgburn is started in the background, or maybe its just the MVPServerChecker plugin also ensures the gb-pvr always have the screen focus, thus hiding the imgburn prompt. Either way, would it be possible to have imgburn started with an overwrite parameter so it never prompts?

I suppose some might want such an option configurable, but for me I'd just rather have it start burning and be done with it.

Also, since I'm already making one request, would it be possible to configure the auto-eject burner feature too? I personally don't like the auto-eject option since my HTPC resides within a cabinet and with the down closed, the ejected drawer hits my cabinet interior.

Anyway, thanks again for this awesome plugin. I consider it an essential.

I am happily running gbpvr and mvp to my tv, watching and recording at the same time, on an old headless machine with the following specs: (just to encourage anyone with an old box lying around)

Athlon XP 1.7Ghz processor
256Mb ram
320Gb hard drive
Windows XP SP2

Before you spend hours trying to troubleshoot big drive problems in XP SP2 will probably resolve any errors i.e. my bios/XP would only see 120Gb of my drive until I put updated to SP2.

Is anyone running the same scenario on an even lesser machine than my own?

I used a sat finder tonight and got the dish aligned with awesome signal power but both gbpvr and wintv don't find anything, its pointing in the right direction as far as my compass says but still no good.

The lnb is a 11300 so i set all 3 settings to 11300 and set to optus d1 (FTA), any other ideas as to what i might have done wrong?
