Which PCI Card for PVRX2 DVI Output to 720P?
Posted by: geekdout - 2008-03-08, 01:34 AM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

Hi!

I've been running GBPVR because I don't have a better PC DVR output solution to drive my home video distribution system. I've been running the RF output (TV Out) of my Hauppauge PVR-350 card into a premium RF modulator, with the output of that entering a dual-input video distribution amplifier that combines with a standard RF antenna source and connects to all of my SD TVs in the house. This setup works great for what I have, but now I'm thinking about buying a large 720P LCD TV - and I'm trying to figure out how to upgrade.

What I want to do is buy a PCI card (all my Dell supports, along with the onboard VGA video) that I can use to connect to the new LCD TV and start running PVRX2 - PLUS allow me to use the LCD as a PC monitor for browsing, etc.), but still find a way to convert/connect/whatever the output to keep feeding my video distribution amplifier for all of the other SD TV's in the house. I'm not sure if I should be looking for some high quality VGA card, one that has DVI/HDMI outputs, or both - or even if there's a PCI card that will do this.

I think I'd want to find some way to use PVRX2 for outputting to both the home RF distribution AND the LCD TV. However, I can't find a very good scan converter (at least that looks as good as the PVR-350 video out) or some way to convert DVI/HDMI video output to RF to feed into my video distribution. I might have to switch between PVRX2 and GBPVR when I want to driving the SD TVs - unless there's a way to do both. Has anyone done this, or can offer a solution or some advice? Sadly, I only have one slot left in my Dell Dimension 2400.

Thanks!

Using Svideo and DVI simultaneously --Can this work?
Posted by: pastro - 2008-03-08, 12:47 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (5)

I have a 9600Pro video card and I want to hook this up to a plasma on the DVI and to an svideo modulator so I can insert on the cable to other TV's around the house. I want both to work at the same time.
The aspect ratio of the plasma is 16:9 and the svideo is 4:3. I can't get both outputs to put the correct aspect ratio out at the same time. If I clone from the 16:9 then I get a squashed 4:3.
If I clone from the 4:3 then I get a 4:3 display on the 16:9 display.

Is there a way to get both to output the correct aspect ratio at the same time?

Aspect ratio seems to be funky
Posted by: rossman231 - 2008-03-08, 12:16 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

When I play any video in PVRX2, it seems to set it at some aspect ratio that cuts off the bottom part of the video, usually showing only the top half or third of any given station's watermark, to give you a rough idea. While this doesn't usually cut off much that's significant, it's seems that the horizontal is a little stretched as a result and sometimes stuff on the bottom part of the screen (like subtitles) are important and missed.
This happens at both fullscreen and windowed mode, so it's not a matter of my tv not showing fullscreen correctly, and it doesn't appear to be a matter of the original aspect ratio and playing the same file fullscreen in VLC with a 4:3 aspect (same as PVRX2 is set to use) works just fine. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Thanks,
Ross

  Error converting recordings to XVID
Posted by: gabeweisz - 2008-03-07, 11:51 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I'm using GBPVR 1.1.5, and getting an error converting recordings to XVID.

I have the following line in my config.xml
<Conversion name="XviD" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -f avi -ab 128 -ac 2 -vcodec xvid -b 1800k {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".avi" />

I've got the logging level set to "debug", and this is the error in GBPVRRecordingService.log
2008-03-07 18:43:47.418 VERBOSE [10] About to start transcode of: Ace of Cakes
2008-03-07 18:43:47.418 ERROR [10] Unexpected error in ConversionProcessing.WorkerThread(): System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Length cannot be less than zero.
Parameter name: length

at GBPVR.RecordingService.x92f6085038c83bb7.xcba1f05fb5a46d5f()

Any suggestions?

EDIT: Another odd thing - the show that it is going to transcode has been deleted - I don't currently have any episodes of the Ace of Cakes on the system. Does that help?

I am really new to this and i can't seem to get any of it to work. If i could get some helpful pointers it would be much appriciated.

Ok. I have a UTV3 box a Vostro 1500 laptop and this software. I have tryed to use everything from SageTV to this and can't seem to get it to work. I just want to turn my laptop into a tivo like device.

I did get the UTV3 box working but the software that came with it is very limited and very buggy.

Laptop spec:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 1.6Ghz
4GB, DDR2, 667MHz
120G 5400RPM HD (going to use my 320gb external)
Windows Vista Ultimate x64

UTV3 box:

PS:
UTV3 software crashes every time i try to record :|

I am struggling with my GBPVR software. I had zaptoit working great for listings when it was free. I just paid the $7 to CTVlistings for a year's worth of their service. I think they are formerly zaptoit.

I can get it to get the listings, and save them to an XML file on my hard drive, but I can't get GBPVR to recognize the file, even after I point it to it. When I click TVGUIDE, there is nothing there.

Recording service crashes sometimes with DVB-C recordings
Posted by: Sheik Yerbouti - 2008-03-07, 07:54 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi, I've setup a recording source for my FloppyDTV DVB-C and I'm using the Multidec plugin Acamd to decrypt the signal. This is working, but the recording service is crashing sometimes and this is something I have never experienced in the years I'm using GBPVR with analog sources. The recording service log is attached.
If I would just have a failed digital recording, it wouldn't be a problem since I'm still only in test fase for digital recordings. But my analog recordings are also failing, since the recording service isn't running after these errors.
The windows log says (in Dutch):

Thanks for coming by. If you are creating a new thread in this support forum, please include the Title of the program you're discussing. There are quite a few different apps now, and sometimes it gets confusing...

Thanks! Big Grin
