  Having tons of mux issues
Posted by: staubsaugen - 2007-05-25, 07:49 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (14)

I'm running windows 2003 server with a hauppage card and a Fusion5 HDTV Gold(ATSC)and mux checker wasn't returning anything. Anytime I tried to record anything off the Fusion5 I wouldn't get any sort of output video file. So I went through the mux catalogue and tried a few of the mux's in there and I started getting files using some of the cyberlink ones, but they would always stop growing pretty quickly.

Best location for recordings & live tv buffer
Posted by: gms - 2007-05-25, 07:23 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Looking for advice.

I am dual booting XP & Vista on one drive where I also have a partition for data. GBPVR is on the XP partition (at least until there's a solid MVP dongle for Vista.) I also have a second drive with two partitions - one for system backups and one with 200G I thought would be a good place for the recordings & buffer.

Before I proceed, do you think its better for the recordings & live tv folders to be on the same drive as GBPVR or a different drive?

  Recording issues
Posted by: 235301 - 2007-05-25, 06:18 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I have seen a couple of odd issues with recording, wondering if there any thoughts on these(note I have two analog tuners, an HVR-1600 and PVR-150):

-I started a manual record while watching a show. I then decided I would record the show directly after the current one by setting the record in the program guide. The second show did record however it didn't start recording until ~10 mins after the show started(I started the manual record on the previous show with ~30 mins left in it). And the manual recorded show did not have the 10 mins of missing video from the second record. It just wasn't there.
-I was running low on HD space(~1GB left) and I had the last 5 mins of a show cut off. Is there some min amt of hd space I have to have left in order for the recording to work properly?

Which capture cards for an Asus Pundit-R?
Posted by: Marcos - 2007-05-25, 06:12 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

Hello all. I've been meaning to build a PVR for ages and have been sitting on the bits for just as long. I have an Asus Pundit-R which being a small form factor PC doesn't have much room inside for the larger cards. (I did once try a PVR-250, but it was a very very tight squeeze and would rather not have to mess around and 'squeeze' anything into my PVR). I'd also like to run two cards as I want to watch a different channel to the one I'm recording. It's for UK digital TV and DAB radio would be good too.

But which card/s should I go for and why? (I don't fancy USB tuners).

I do have a BlackGold card, but this isn't listed as a supported card type. I was wondering if anyone has managed to get this card to work with GBPVR and if so how and could I run it with two?

I'm presuming that the PVR-150 and 350 have the same footprint as the 250 but can anyone confirm this?

Oh and what happens with pay per view channels other than the standard Freeview?

I'm hoping that this experienced community will be able to point me in the right direct and save me ages of head scratching. So to anyone that can help, thanks in advance!!

Jerky Ripped DVD Playback with Subtitles
Posted by: MichaelColey - 2007-05-25, 05:20 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

I've ripped several dozen DVDs from my DVD collection onto my 500GB hard drive for more convenient playback through the GB-PVR Video Library. When I turn on subtitles on any of them, the playback becomes jerky.

What can I do to improve the performance?

  Nvidia tearing?
Posted by: pvrdude - 2007-05-25, 03:07 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

I am planning to buy a new video card for my new computer build but I have read that nvidia graphics cards have 'tearing' but this mostly applies to HTPCs?

I often have a dual boot with a Linux distro and Nvidia is usually better for drivers so I was going to go with an Nvidia card but I'm concerned about the tearing element.

Can anyone tell me how bad the problem is and if it is solved in any way? Many of the more advanced Nvidia cards are going down in price so this was another reason to go Nvidia. Also, they don't produce as much heat as ATI's as far as I know.

There is also the PureVideo part of Nvidia but I don't know anything about it. I was hoping someone could enlighten me on it. I know I can read about it but it's good to learn about other people's experiences with both that and the actual cards.

I will still consider ATI if Nvidia's tearing is still a major problem. ATI might have better drivers for Linux eventually as they're becoming open source, I believe. But, Nvidia seems to be better with overall performance and heat/cooling but the tearing is an issue with me if it still occurs.

Thanks for any information, advice and recommendations.

Btw, the cards I'm considering include:
Nvidia 7950GT, 8800GTS (want option of High Definition), 7600GS (maybe) (7600 series to 8800)
ATI X1950XTX, X1950XT (I could buy an aftermarket cooler for the card?)

  PS3 as an HD extender
Posted by: cosmocat - 2007-05-25, 02:52 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (2)

Ive just seen this post on the Sage forum about the PS3 with new 1.8 firmware playing HD recordings.

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25513

I was trialing Sage before I went to GBPVR and IIRC the recordings are in the same mpeg format. ( i think i even played sage recordings through gbpvr during the switchover!) .

I havn't tried this as I don't have a PS3 yet, but its getting more tempting by the day...

  Freecom USB Stick
Posted by: SteveBax - 2007-05-25, 02:49 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hey, I just heard about this program and downloaded it because the software I got with my tuner doesen't work right on my pc. However, I don't know if my tuner is supported by this program. It's a Freecom DVB-T USB Stick.

My system is an Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, with 1gb DDR ram.

Thanks in advance Smile

Hi,
In the aggregated forum posts on the main screen, I can see a post that says

Is this open for everybody?
