I have been reading a lot recently about locast.org https://www.locast.org/ which could be a reasonable alternative to using tuners in many places in the US. They write that they cover 45% of the US market (see list below). It does appear to be legitimate since they do take several measures to prevent out of market viewing. Like anything the success of locast.org will depend on users donating but the price seem pretty reasonable. Of course cable companies may not agree but that is for discussion.
I have been able to create an extra for NextPVR that hopefully will allow you you to use this service but I am looking for some people to help me test. Eventually if there is demand I can add XMLTV importing too, just no point in doing this if no one wants it. For now I expect the EPG will come from
The streams are already h264/aac so they will integrate better with NextPVR web (no transcoding) then traditional tuners and should work on any platform that v5 supports.
The extra is based on two open source project locast2plex and the locast addon for Kodi so in theory anyway it should be working ok.

I've been seeing inaccurate commercial skips with both the Windows client and the NextPVR Kodi add-on. It appears this problem may be occurring only with 480i content and it is really a problem with timeline calculation. In general, NextPVR is both starting and ending the skip prematurely.
I have verified that the skip points generated by comskip are accurate using both the review function of comskip and by verifying the edl file using VideoReDo.
In one example, the edl file shows the beginning of a commercial break at 560.73 seconds (~9:20). The commercial marker indeed starts at 9:20 according to the NextPVR client timeline. But the 9:20 point on the timeline isn't really the 9:20 point in the program. The point in the stream that the NextPVR client shows as 9:20 is really the 8:22 point in the stream according to VideoReDo. The actual commercial break starts at the 10:17 mark according to the NextPVR client timeline.
The program in question is 480i, 29.97 fps. It was recorded from an OTA digital sub-channel from an HDHomeRun. The end of the program is at 29:50 according to the NextPVR timeline and 30:02 according to VideoReDo.
I checked out a 1080i program and a 720p program and in both cases the timeline was acceptably accurate. I've seen this problem with every 480i program I have looked at, but that is admittedly a small sample.

Tuner USB-Stick: Hauppauge WinTV SoloHD EPG Source: DVB/ATSC EPG Installation is generally running fine: recording, playing, connection to web client, connections to Kodi … Sufficient resources: RAM, CPU, OS/Programs on SD-Card, Recording Directory and Recording Buffer at external NAS (Windows Server) But if I start Update EPG it stops after 6 frequencies. After that recording is no longer possible. Restart of nextpvr-service or unplugging the tuner stick does not help. After restart of the Raspberry, recording and/or start of EPG update again is possible (but stops again after 6 frequencies). If I delete some channels and start Update EPG at other frequencies it also stops after 6 frequencies. Empty EPG database does not help. Database npvr.db3 has ca. 12000 EPG entries (3,5 MB). The database could be opened with SQLite, looks o.K. Same version on my windows server is running fine. EPG database should have ca. 45 MB. I have added log files (device-adapter0: middle part deleted to match 2 MB). Hope someone has an idea.
I realise the easiest way to find out is to try it, but would anyone happen to know if I move a TBS pci-e card to a different slot on the mobo, what will I have to do - reboot and carry on watching TV, rescan for channels, chuck every NextPVR setting out and start again ?
My wife says she's seen this happen since we switched from Windows/v4.25 to Linux/v5, first time for me.
I was watching a recording from some time ago, about 32 minutes into a 60 minute recording and the video playback disappeared leaving me with the folder view (under Videos), but the audio playback continued. There's a lot of "stops" in the log file around 20:47 which would have been about right and you can see where I actually pressed the "stop" button on the remote which stopped the audio playback. I was able to restart the video, but not given the resume/restart option.
I think the event spanned the current and previous log files.
I would love to develop a new systems plugin for the windows client for v5, but I am not even sure this is possible. If anyone has the knowledge of where/how to add GUI elements to run a few commands, like shutdown -r, shutdown -s, and hard drive space, etc.
I just installed the latest version and Parallelprocessing.bat was running. It is not being invoked now. This was all to see why comskip wasn't running.
Any tips. It could be a permission issue, but I am not certain.
