ok so I have seen enough of the what does "GB" stand for questions... but it got me to thinking, there are a bunch of random and weird avatars on this (and every other) forum, mine included. I am wondering what they mean or more importantly WHY you chose it. (by avatar I mean your handle, or whatever you refer to the name you go by on the forum as)
I will start,
Ted the Penguin
Ted is a character in Ctrl+Alt+Del, a webcomic that I have read for a long time. I started reading it about the time I started getting into online gaming, or more specifically CS/DoD. you know, games where you need an avatar so people know who killed them. anyways, I forget some of the thought process I went through to decide on Ted the Penguin, it involved ted being a somewhat random and humorous character in the comic, that he was generally hated by one of the main characters, and supposedly wanted to kill him... oh and there is a strip where he is the penguin from fight club
I started using it for that and decided I liked it, so it became my standard avatar for most everything online, do if you are somewhere and see someone posting with the avatar "Ted the Penguin" << perferred, or if their software sucks and doesnt allow that "TedThePenguin" or some such permutation, my xbox Live gamertag is "Ted teh Penguin" someone had already taken "the" although it could have been me in a past forgotten registration. and in some online games I might appear as "-=CAD=- Ted the Penguin" or some permutation thereof: because I feel cooler when it looks like I am in a clan (or whatever) :p
I can't seem to get the webscheduler feature to work. I want to be able to connect from my office and set up recordings or whatnot. I just downloaded GBPVR, so its new.
I enabled the Web Scheduler feature in the configuration menu. I had to switch the port to 443 because that one has worked in the past at my office on other things. I opened it up on my router, unblocked GBPVR in Windows Firewall and added the port in there too. Not sure why I can't get it to work.
i would like to uninstall gbpvr and do a complete reinstall since I seem to be having some unresolved errors..
I did not see the program in add/remove programs so could someone explain the best method to remove it and reinstall clean...
I tried deleting the gbpvr folder and reinstalling, but I still think that there are registry keys that need to go also...
thanks bossman9
PS the machine has multiple user accounts and i suspect that permissions may be the root of some issues:confused:
When i drop down search, the darn Flash Beatles ad stays on top, so I can't see the menu. Had to disable Flash in IE to make it workable! (Other ads don't seem to do this.)
Firstly a must say a big Thank you to all who have helped develop GBPVR. It is the first pvr software that I got to work the way I wanted it to work straight out of the box. In the past I've tried MythTV, MediaPortal, Beyond TV and Win2000TV. I had most success with Win2000TV but the CPU would sit at 70% when watching live TV. Now with GBPVR the CPU is at 7% watching live TV. I think that is due to GBPVR using the PVR-350's encoder and decoder. Mybe it was me not configuring the other software corretly but I don't care any more, I'm sticking with GBPVR. Thanks again, from one very happy user.
Has anyone got any REAL insight on the difference between the ATI and Omega drivers??? No fan-boyism please
is the picture quality better? Are there any new options that I would actually use (and no, I dont want to add another 10Hz to the clock speed)? Are they stable? Why do they exist?
Has anyone else had any issues using a nova-t PCI (latest model) with GB-PVR, particularly in combination with standby/hibernate mode?
I'm having 2 problems with it, one serious and one not so serious, and trying to figure out whether it's a flaky card I've got or some other component of my system is playing up.
The non-serious problems are as follows - whenever I wake up the computer from standby (ie not a fresh restart), the remote control is no longer working. Tray icon shows it still running, but without running "restartir.exe" it doesn't work. Once I have run this, remote is fine until I next put the computer into and then out of standby. Is this normal behaviour and if so, any workarounds eg putting a restartIR.exe command in a batch file that runs coming out of hibernate?
The more serious problem is a complete system lock up, usually as soon as I start trying to play a recording within GB-PVR after coming out of hibernate. Sometimes the thing locks up (blank screen, loud audio buzzing) as soon as I hit play, other times it doesn't lock up until I stop the playback and try to go back to the main menu. In both instances the reset button doesn't even work and I have to turn the whole thing on and off to bring it back to life. The reason I suspect it's the nova-t is that I often see a "hauppauge failed to start" type error msg in the event manager at the time of the crash, but this could just be a co-incidence I guess! Without using standby mode, everything seems to work perfectly - no crashes or remote problems.
Anyway, sorry for the long post but really appreciate any thoughts before I start tearing the whole system (and my hair out) trying to identify the problem.
Im getting the AccessViolationException described in the 0.98.13(b) survival guide. I do have NOD32, and have followed the advice on disabling IMON for the GBPVR recording service, but it doesnt seem to make a difference. Having disabled NOD32 the exception goes away. Obviously this is far from ideal, so I want to get the hotfix described in the survival guide...but how?! - The fix itself doesnt seem to be on the page that link goes to, only a description of it!!
Aside from that, having NOD32 disabled does stop the exception, but recording still isnt playing nicely... I keep ending up with 0 length files every time I try to record. I feel like Ive tried absolutely everything, but I must be missing something. In the recording service logs (attached) it seems like GBPVR recognises the size of the recordings and terminates it pretty soon after it begins, but I dont see any obvious errors... any ideas why this may be happening?

It would be great if there was a way that GBPVR would not overwrite an interrupted recording if the recording services requires resetting.
My problem is this - occasionally I will be recording a TV program on my PC but then have to reset the GBPVR recording service to enable my MVP to connect.
Whenever the recording service restarts it goes back to recording the tv program but instead of adding to the original mpg file it overwrites it thus losing any content recorded prior to the reset. Is there a way that GBPVR could preserve the original recording file perhaps recording with a new filename. Or better yet, is there a way that GBPVR could continue recording to the original MPG.
so i had the pvr660 working earlier today on new installation. gbpvr worked alright. then, i install the wintv pvr usb 2. then non of them worked. i unstalled the wintv's drivers and reinstalled them. i can now watch tv /record in wintv2000. however, whenever i bring up gb-pvr , i can't watch/record shows using either devices. (i'm testing both right now, so using only one at a time). any ideas?
