I've been trying VMR9 Custom with the DirectX Exclusive mode configured, and the performance playing back is now similar to the overlay renderer (~10% CPU usage during playback), but without the aspect ratio issues.
The two problems I have seen with it are:
Windows tray area icons update even though they shouldn't really be visible, so they flicker onto the screen between frames every now and again.
When playback is stopped, the last played frame remains on-screen. Underneath, the menu is actually active, it's even being rendered (it's visible via VNC), but the video frame stays displayed on-screen.
I'm using the GBPVR.exe patched to stop the menu from being re-rendered in the background during playback, btw.
Hey, I am just curious about this one. I have a WinTV-PVR150 card, and using it on a backend machine to record only. I am accessing those files from a second machine (currently it is my pc, but in the future it will be an xbox connected to my tv).
I am playing back either mpeg or xvid files (I have it set to transcode to xvid after midnight). When the shows are in mpeg format (high quality) they are crisp and nice, however I get VERY bad motion jaggies (you can see the 2 fields seperating badly during motion). Once this is transcoded to xvid it appears to create major pixelation problems (still scenes are clear and crisp, motion is EXTREMELY pixelated).
Any thoughts on this, or is there anywhere else I should be looking to fine tune this?
If it helps any, I used to use Myth before I found out about GBPVR (with this exact card actually) but never noticed any quality or motion issues with it. Now it was playing back on the TV directly through an nvidia tvout, but still, I would prefer if these files are watchable on a PC as well...
Also I notice that the PVR150 settings aren't "fine tuned" lol... on Myth it was neccisary to hand tune the brightness, contrast, white balance, saturation, and other settings to get good color vibrance and such (specifically saturation by default is extremely low on the 150 cards and turning it up made a world of difference in myth). Is there a way to manually access these settings of the card through GBPVR?
Haven't used these features together except for once and then only as a quick check but...
I was letting my visiting family view family photos using GBPVR 'Slide Show' on my TV via the MVP while at the same time using the GBPVR 'Music' function to play music through the MVP while the slide show was playing.
I found that when you pause the slide show, the music also pauses. I thought this is kinda cool but a bit later, I also found using the forward/reverse and skip functions to scroll up/down through my photo library folders also causes the music to simultaneously skip tracks, etc.
Is this a bug that the remote causes simultaneous reactions with both these GBPVR functions rather than the just the foreground (Photo) function or am I doing someting wrong?
I'm trying to build a home-brew PVR and am following the 'Build a PVR' hardware project that featured in the June 2006 issue of PCAnswers. Does anyone know how to go about configuring GB-PVR to work in conjunction with a Nebula Electronics DigiTV and Hauppauge MVP please as the instructions in PCAnswers June 2006 edition seem to be a little vague IMHO. There's no mention on how to go about configuring GB-PVR other than to change the number of servers to autostart from '0' to '1'.
Any suggestions on how to go about configuring GB-PVR would be appreciated.
Has there been any thoughts/ideas regarding the possibility to have guests logging in to the EWA. What I am looking for is a way to give freinds and family limited access to my GBPVR, e.g., letting them view and stream music but not being able to schedule recordings, etc.
I never managed to get CC to work. I do see subtitles when used with video files (SRT/SUB files).
I never looked into it, thinking maybe I don't get them over here, but now that my TV shows them fine, I realize that the info is there. I think all my settings are correct. How to troubleshoot?
P.S another issue regarding the data being transmitted along the TV signal - my new TV actually learns the EPG over the TV signal (including channels names, and shows correct icons too!). No internet used. Is it possible to do so with PC tuner cards? (not very important - the PC does have internet connection for EPG d/l).
Total reinstall of the OS, thought I knew how to get it all running well again, and now I'm dead in the water. The tuning assistant shows all the analog channels. The Map Digital channels can tune all the digitals. I worked back all the Zap2it programs, but now nothing will tune in on Live TV or from the Guide.
i'm putting the new Windows Media Player on right now, but I seriously doubt that's going to matter.
During playback of show being recorded (probably about the time the comskip was running), I got the error popup when hitting the BLUE button.
Later, trying to watch same show, whenever I hit the BLUE or even skip-forward, get the exception.
I see these in the logs (few hundreds):
Code:
22/11/2006 21:16:59.017 ERROR [1] Encounter unexpected exception in timerRefresh_Tick:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Any idea?
It was then solved when few minutes later, and I restarted GBPVR frontend. Playback was fine.
Sub,
I believe I read somewhere that the new version of GB=PVR would have
a volume overlay. When I press volume I do not see a bar appear on
my screen, instead the information bar from the bottom pops up
and that about it. The volume does turn up and down just no display
Is this normal?
Sub,
I haven't tried this feature yet but I have noticed GB-PVR will do it.
In GB-PVR config gui there is a processing tab. I see a section that says
auto convert and I can choose from a number of different formats such as
Divx, XviD, Ipod, ect. Will these convert on the fly while the recording is
taking place or does the times above mean GB-PVR will convert the
Mpeg 2 file between those times.
Also, would you say the file size would be smaller then an Mpeg 2
I always record in Medium.
