It's been a long time since I coded with consideration for character sets. I used to make my apps bilingual with Japanese, (although that's a double-byte character set)
I wouldn't have thought there would be any problem with swedish characters. But apparently there is.
Any string manipulation is pretty much straight-through passes, but I think there are a couple of string compares I use that convert both strings to either ucase or lcase, to make the string compare case insensitive...
Has anyone seen VB or even batch files, take a 'ä' character and convert it to a 'õ' character ?
I suspect that it's a matter of conflicting character sets, in the regional setting of the computer, and not actually a coding problem...
I just removed one of my Nova-t capture sources using Config. I got the warning that this would remove all EPG info associated with the card and I told it to proceed. When I looked at the TV Guide, all EPG information was missing (except pending recordings).
All of my sources are configured to use the same XMLTV source - is this a known problem?
I have been a user of GBPVR for the last 18 months and love it.
Recently I was shown a plugin for Media Portal called My Trailers which impressed me greatly, it displayed movie trailers from the web (I think it was using Yahoo Movies) and allowed you to stream them direct through the interface, is there something similar available for GBPVR, there was also a music videos plugin which did a similar thing.
When watching Live TV, if I change the volume on my remote, the picture stutters. I've kept an eye on task manager, and the computer usage rises, but not dramatically (From 60 to 80%). I'm using the Firefly remote and Beyond Media Basic to control GBPVR.
Has anyone tired Windows Internet Connection Sharing with a wireless network card?
I have a internet connection on my gaming PC and would like to 'ad-hocly' connect this to a GBPVR box in another room. Both have wireless cards but even though I gone through the ICS wizard several times it doenst seem to make a wireless network. Neither box can see any new wireless networks when it scans for them. What I don't understand is that the wizard never asked me for a WEP/WPA password or network name/ESSID!? I assume it would need this
I'm not too fussed about the GBPVR having internet connection, I just want to be able to access it via VNC and GBPVR Web admin.
I'm just getting started with gbpvr (just two days) but I have to say that I like what I have seen so far! This is just the type of pvr app that I wanted, with the ability to show other media files from the same main menu. I first tried to get it installed on a PC running Windows 2000 and ran into several problems (mostly with the Hauppauge PVR-250 card) but then I redid everything on a Win XP machine and its working fine as far as I can see. I'm using a Compaq EVO (small form factor PC) with a 1.5 Mhz P4 and 256 meg of RAM.
I'm a home automation enthusiast and I'm looking to integrate the pvr with the rest of my system. This brings up a couple of questions that I'd like to post at this time.
1- Is there an easy way to schedule a recording from outside the application? Ideally, I would like to be able to do it from the command line with arguments representing things like the channel, start time, duration, etc. Another alternative would be to be able to connect via an IP socket and schedule a recording that way. This is because I have a interactive voice response (IVR)phone system that I can fully script to do this kind of thing and launching a command line program along with arguments is quite easy to do. I can create a voice driven session or even a ADSI phone (Vista 350) script to get the information about what to record.
2- I see that it is possible to launch an external application to select a channel. I have digital cable and I would like to be able to have the pvr communicate with my home automation system which can already send IR commands to my cable box. I use an ADI Ocelot to control most things in my home and it can also learn and transmit IR commands. Is there more information I can read somewhere on how I can "talk" to an external channel selection program?
2b- (!) Can a scheduled channel selection to the PVR-250 switch it from an actual analog tuner channel to its composite input jack?
Thanks for any hints and responses to my above questions!
Hi,
About a year ago I took the original MusicAlbums plugin written by Tobias and began altering it. The biggest change I made was to create another "screen" if the user hit the right button (past the playlist). This new screen had the current song and album art on the left hand side and the current playlist on the right hand side. The big benefit for me was that I was then able to make the album art much much bigger therefore giving the user a more visual feel. Also, I could then show more of the tags Album, Year, Song Name etc. This also opens up the possbility of adding more tags like lyrics and potentially even synchronized lyrics.
In addition, this gave me more real estate on the right hand side to display more songs in the playlist. Everything else for the most part did not change. This was a huge hit with my friends. People seem to really want to see the album art as big as they can. If they want to go back to adding songs all they had to do was left click.
I guess my question is, do you have any interest in me trying to retrofit that into your version? Or is it something you want to add yourself?
in the config menu there is a check box for "hardware decode"
at the moment I haven't got a card which supports this , but looking to get one ...
so if I get a new graphics card which has an embedded MPEG2 decoder, and click the above check box, the video output will be directed to the S-video port and the mpg file will playback with hardware assistance - right?
but I don't want to do this. my new TV has VGA and HDMI inputs, what I want to do is drive the new telly via the VGA connector, AND use the hardware MPEG decoder on the new card - why should I PAL-encode it and use the new telly's analogue SCART connector? -
am I missing something? are graphics cards only designed to use hardware MPEG decode with S-video, or is this a GBPVR "constraint"
