  Scaling for PAL resolution 720x576
Posted by: congoblue - 2006-11-10, 03:36 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Nearly all the GBPVR screens seem to be 720x480, but I'm outputting to a Pal TV at 720x576 - is this causing a lot of rescaling to be required for every screen? Are there any skins designed for 720x576? Or does GBPVR handle the scaling so well I shouldn't worry about it (it seems to).

To add to the fun it's a widescreen TV (CRT) which stretches the 720 pixels out, so anything round ends up squashed. (This is only for the menus, the TV pictures work properly with the 16:9 option set in config). So really I want a 720x576 skin with everything horizontally squashed.

As a slightly different question, there is massive overscan off the edges of the TV which I can cure by setting the picture width to 800 pixels in NVidia's "Advanced Timing" screen. Does this cause stress to the TV renderer as it has to rescale everything from the default 720 pix out to 800, or doesn't it make any difference to it?

  Pausing Live TV

I would like it if when you paused tv after a minute or 2 the screensaver would kick in to reduce wear and tear and possible "burn in" on the screen.

  Am I stuck?
Posted by: JDeSimone - 2006-11-10, 03:13 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

I bought a PVR-500MCE because I knew I wanted two tuners. The card I have has 1 Philips and 1 Samsung tuner and the reception is awful. It's worse on the lower channels but still bad no matter what. Has anyone here gotten good enough performance from one of these with the new tuners to get an acceptable WAF?

I bought it from PCAlchemy and am considering asking if they will accept a return on it if I buy 2 PVR150.

I am going to go buy a signal amp today to see if that gives me acceptable quality. Open to all suggestions.

Lil more info.

Can't get UBUstream stations to automatically update EPG
Posted by: jbyram2 - 2006-11-10, 03:08 PM - Forum: UbuStream, Web Radio and Universe - Replies (2)

I'm using MVPs, so I need to use the Channel mode method to use Ubustream. I can create an psudo EPG manually, but after a week it is obsolete and the entries on the TVguide are blank, and thus are not selectable. How do I get Ubustream to automatically keep an up-to-date EPG?

  Hauppage IR Blaster fixed
Posted by: dvester - 2006-11-10, 07:31 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

After hours of trying to figure out why my wintv-150 Hauppage IR Blaster wouldn't change channels on my dish network STB, a dish 5000 (including having Dish send a new DP501 out), I finally decided to replace the LED in the blaster supplied by Hauppage.

I tore apart an old remote for some equipment I no longer had, and removed the Infrared LED from it, and soldered it onto the end of the Hauppage IR Blaster cord in place of the visible red LED they use. Problem fixed, it now changes channels fine.

Why they chose to use a visible red LED instead of an Infrared one is beyond me.

To do this, pry apart the blaster's LED housing with your thumbnail, and remove the 3 mm led from the housing with the cord still attached. Check the LED, and note which side of the cord is attached to the part of the LED with the FLAT on it. One side of the cord has a rib running down the length of the cord, the other side of the cord has no rib. When you solder the replacement IR LED on, make sure you attach the LED lead next to the FLAT on the LED to the same wire as the FLAT on the old LED was attached to. If you don't, the LED will be hooked up backwards, and won't work (but you won't know it because you can't see Infrared)

My replacement was a 5 mm LED, which wouldn't fit back in the blaster LED housing, so I just taped the bare LED sideways onto the STB IR receiver window. If you can get a 3 mm IR LED, it can be put back into the original housing to make a neater looking installation.

Anybody else do this to fix their's?

  Video Playback
Posted by: micfong - 2006-11-10, 06:53 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Recently, I have not been able to play back some types of files anywhere but in GBPVR. For example, I put a DVD into the drive and when I open it with PowerDVD or WinDVD it is very dark and the colors are inverted. I can open the same DVD in GBPVR and it works fine. This also happened with a TV show I recorded. I have tried changing the video decoder to no avail. How can I fix this problem?

  Question about multitasking
Posted by: broadband412 - 2006-11-10, 06:06 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Hi, this may be a dumb question but I'm gonna ask anyways as I don't know if it is ok to do so or not. Is it OK to do other things on your comptuer while GBPVR is recording? For example, is it ok to borwse the web play some music or vidoes, watch a DVD movie or download files? What about video ediiting like taking out hte commercials out of a previously recorded file? Is it OK to do this while recording? Thanks.
