I've got a Hauppauge Nova-T USB2 running under winXP (in the UK).
My problem is this:
When I try to watch or record a program on any of the BBC channels (BBC1,BBC2,BBC3,BBC4), I get a black screen (livetv) or an empty recording. The channels work perferctly well when using Hauppauge's WinTV2000 player.
The strangest thing is that I can get the BBC channels to work in GB-PVR if I repeatedly swap between one of the BBC channels and any of the others that work (e.g. channel4). After doing this 4 or 5 times, the BBC channel usually appears and the other BBC channels are available if I jump directly to them. However, if I change to a non-BBC channel, I have to go through the process again for the BBC's to work.
The BBC channels don't appear in the channel listings when I do the initial channel scan (in config), but appears immediately if I rescan for channels. I'm not sure that reception strength is the issue here, as the channels come in clearly without any chopping or spikes when they first appear. Additionally, scanning for channels in WinTV2000 finds the BBC channels imediately without any problems.
This isn't a new problem as it has been like this since I first started using GB-PVR, 3 releases ago. As a result, I am using GB-PVR as the first tool for watching/recording all the non-BBC channels and WinTV for watching the BBC channels.
This might be a little bit out of topic, but I am struggeling to get the setup for Web Admin to work. The reason its being out of topic is because it is now all related to how I should set it up on my network. I.e, I have it all working from localhost.
I have searched the forum, but all threads assumes, to me, a great deal of knowledge related to network set up. There is talk about forwarding ports, opeing firewalls, dnssetup, tunneling, ssh, etc, etc. What I need is someone to give me the basics, sort of a step by step guide. I know that it differs from router to router, but my setup is as follows.
1. Web Admin activated in GBPVR config using port 7647.
2. I am able to reach web admin from the machine where everything is setup, both using "localhost:7647" and "192.168.0.151:7647" which is the LAN assigned IP.
3. I am NOT able to reach web admin from the other computer I have on my LAN.
4. I have in my router set up a virtual server "Virtual Server GBPVR 192.168.0.151 TCP 7647/7647 always " which also entered a entry in the firewall setting "Allow Virtual Server GBPVR WAN,* LAN,192.168.0.151 TCP,7647 "
5. I have also tried accessing using the "real assigned WAN IP" but with no luck.
So here is where I turn to you. Please let me know what I am missing or if additional info is needed. My router is a D-Link 624+ if that would help.
When viewing images in Photo Library on MVP I often get the error "Parameter is not valid", this can be in any folder (so its probably not a corrupt image tag) and usually when changing pictures via remote. When the error pops up I have to reboot the MVP to continue. Any ideas what is causing this and what I can do to stop it? I am using the BLUEMCE skin.
Forgive me if this was answered elsewhere (I couldn't find it with search). I took my laptop on the road, hoping to use GBPV (configured as a PC Client) to watch some movies I copied to the laptop. (Nothing else I've found honors the commercial skip file output).
When I go to start GBPVR, it just quits. When I am back on my home network it is fine. Since my 'video library' has a mapping to a local directory on the laptop, I don't need the server to watch them.
Should GBPVR, configured as a client, still run when it can't find the server? If not, I'd like to suggest that it notice it can't find the server and ask if it should go into 'non client mode'. If I say yes, it would just start up that time, none client.
Some one asked me how I got Ubustream working with MediaMVPs.
Here's what I said. Any other thoughts, tips & tricks?
I'm using Media MVP Versions D3A
Short How-to:
1) get Videolan client (VLC)
2) Install Ubustream, and set all your stations to use VLC
3) Setup external recorder to allow Ubustream to use channel mode.
4) Use all of tipsters MVP network tweaks
Since the MVP needs a .mpg file to play, VLC is needed to capture the network stream you want to watch and save it in .mpg format so the MVP can play it.
Long version:
1) I'm using videolan client 0.8.5
in settings->preferences
advanced, check advanced options and select "allow only one running instance" and "allow only one running instance when started from a file" keep "use a plugins cache" checked. all others on that page unchecked.
This will keep gbpvr from spawning lots of zombie instances of VLC that never close when you change channels.
2) Set Ubustream to use VLC
in gbpvr config, plugins tab, WebTV/ radio -> Settings. PLayers tab-> Videolan client->edit...this should say
player name: videoLAN Client
PLayer Application: C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe
Fullscreen parm: -f
Stations tab: all station should be set to use VideoLAN Client as their media player
3) gbpvr config->Capture sources-> Create a capture source for Ubustream, like Ubu says to in the wiki. Mine looks like this:
Edit recording source worksheet:
Source name: UbuStream
Recording Source: Extrernal recorder
Settings:
*****************
Start recording executable:C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\UbuStreamCmd.exe
Start Recording Parameters:
Hide recording executable: checked
Wait up to 10,000 ms for the output file to be created
The wait 100 ms before starting "Now Recording"
Now recording executable: blank
Now recording parameters : blank
Stop recording executable: C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe
Stop recording parameters: --one-instance vlc:quit
Start preview executable: C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\UbuStreamCmd.exe
Start preview parameters: {channel} -f
Stop preview executable: C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe
Stop preview parameters: --one-instance vlc:quit
zero pad : unchecked
three digits: unchecked
*******************
4) MVP tab
set "Pre-play delay" to 5000, to give the stream time to start
Once it is set up, You should be able to pick stations from the TVGuide, and play them just like TV station. But beware!
Your server will be doing a bit more work, since it has to recieve the stream, transcode it to Mpeg, and save it to disk, then serve the file out to the MVP. I've got an Duron 1600 and it works OK, but the LAN connection has the video coming in and going out at the same time, and may not be able to recieve and serve smoothly.
Do not be surprised if you see some of the most psychedelic video distortion you can imagine, and audio/video synch problems, and the four second MVP video/audio loop "feature". I've found that pausing the playback to create a reasonable size buffer (10-20 seconds), and skipping backwards (lowest button on the left) sometimes will get the thing synched up and running smoothly. Sometime not though, especially if the stream is choppy to begin with.
EDIT 12/20/06:
Changed my setup to GB-PVR 98.13b, VLC 0.8.6, Ubustream 2.0+ bugfix,
Added audio-sync to improve audio synch and repeat errors..a pause and back-skip is still needed sometimes.
Changed acodec from mp2a to mpga to keep VLC from crashing sometimes.
Changed vb from 1024 to 2048 for improved appearance on high quality streams
EDIT 12/12/08
Changed my setup to PVRX2, and broke channel mode.
I stumbled on this MS fix for the old DX9c quartz.dll stutter bug.
This fix only applies to those who use VMR9+DXVA.
Quote:When you play back interlaced content through the Video Mixer Renderer 9 (VMR9) with DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) enabled, flickering may occur after seeking. This problem typically occurs when you issue a seek command while you play back content. In some cases, this command can cause the timestamps of the samples to be incorrect before the sample is sent to the de-interlacer. This behavior causes the even and odd fields to become reversed.
I get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when I try to watch live TV, either through the "Live TV" option or through the Guide.
Also, when I click "Play" to play back a recorded show, nothing happens - it just goes back to the Menu. When I browse to the folder where my recorded shows are, they all show up as 0K in length.
Not sure if this is "working as expected" or a bug. I've done a complete re-install for both .98 series and in the configuration I've always selected to prompt for resume. I've noticed that I can get it to resume, but the UI does not display the resume option. I have to manually chage the setting in the config file.
Hi, I'm a noob to video capture and I find GB-PVR a wonderful tool to simplify the process. I particularly appreciate the integrated EPG available in Canada (unlike the default software that came with my Hauppauge PVR-150). Onto my question...
Since most programs I watch have a few minutes of commercials at the end and may start a little before they're scheduled I like to shift my recording ahead by one minute so that my pre-padding=1 and post-padding=-1.
That seems to work fine in GB-PVR but I notice that the config utility doesn't accept negative values in the spinner control. So I have to manually adjust the post-padding for every program.
Have I discovered a bug (v98.13) or am I doing something wrong?
1) How does the manual transcode feature in the video library work? Does it begin transcoding as soon as I select it? Or, does it queue it up in some list to be taken care of at a certain time (like in the auto-transcode)?
2) I seem to have forgotten my second question, so I guess I will have to waste space and make another thread later (crap!)
