Volume osd, mute not working
Posted by: ski44 - 2006-09-21, 05:55 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (5)

Hello,

I have the wireless MVP. I have never installed any of the software that it came with. Everything is working great with GBPVR, except that I have no feedback on screen when I am adjusting volume, and the mute button also does not do anything.

I have seen in other threads, people talking about the Hauppauge built in osd for volume... but I have never had any Hauppauge osd of any kind, only the GBPVR displays. I am actually happy I don't have any of the native osd coming up, because it would seem like it gets in the way.

Since I'm not really sure how volume adjustment works on the MVP, I don't know where to start troubleshooting this. I am using the default dongle.bin that comes with gbpvr 0.98.8.

Thanks!

  New Plugin - Random TV
Posted by: 23skidoo - 2006-09-21, 05:54 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (10)

[Image: randomtv.jpg]

A static screenshot just can't do it justice. Imagine hundreds of TV show titles flashing on the screen at dizzying speeds. Press "OK" on your remote, and a show is selected. But...which one? :-)

This is a tiny little plugin, really. Just more explorations of this quirky (in the best sense of the word) HTPC system. This plugin really just draws random (currently playing) show titles, one after the other; whichever one you click, that's what plays. It's more fun than you might think.

I learned a couple of things from this undertaking (please correct my ignorance; I'm all ears!):
1. Apparently you have to close down the video player if you want your (IMenuTask plugin) display to refresh periodically. sub already identified this as a bug slated for squishing in the next release. In the meantime I put this code in my IMenuTask.Activate():

IVideoPlayer vpTemp = PluginHelperFactory.getPluginHelper().GetActiveVideoPlayer();

if (vpTemp != null)
vpTemp.shutdown();

2. I noticed how now that everyone has a camcorder, no one talks about seeing UFOs like they used to.

3. This little snippet (placed strategically in your IMenuTask.Deactivate() implementation) will make sure that the little inset window on the main menu screen gets blanked out; no leftover clipped plugin display:

SendKeys.SendWait(Keys.Escape.ToString());

4. In your code for IMenuTask.render(), setting requiresMoreRendering to true is dangerous. All other (application) messages are blocked. When Random TV is running, it's only when the show titles slow down (I set requiresMoreRendering to false for ~5 seconds) that the system will actually process a keyboard click.
I posted the source code, in case anyone's interested. Nothing exciting, but it could be helpful to some, I suppose:

And finally, I'll paste in the readme.txt, for posterity:
==================
=== RANDOM TV ====
==================

-> 9-20-06
-> This is the first release. Version 1.0.0. Which implies there'll be future versions.

WHAT IS IT?
----------------------------------------
Imagine hundreds of TV show titles flashing on the screen at dizzying speeds. Press "OK" on your remote, and a show is selected. But...which one? :-)

MANUAL INSTALLATION
----------------------------------------
This one's a serious no-brainer. Put the DLL in your plugins directory. No skin files or supporting images at all. Just the wee little DLL.

USAGE INSTRUCTIONS
----------------------------------------
Click Random TV. After a minute or so of "Ooooh!" and "Ahhh!," click OK. The show who's title is currently displayed on the screen will be launched.

KNOWN ISSUES
----------------------------------------
Seems to work fine. I can think of a boatload of enhancements.

DISCLAIMER
----------
Global Thermonuclear War is a distinct possibility. And I'm not entirely sober at the moment.

  My Videos and alt+Tab
Posted by: Carlito - 2006-09-21, 03:54 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Whenever I play a video (avi/divx) through the My Videos tab, the remote does not respone..at first. If I hit the menu button once you see for a split second the alt+Tab dialog show up. After this the remote works as usual.

So for some reason gbpvr does not retain focus when first viewing video files, and I guess Menu invokes the Alt+Tab combo and this gives focus back to gbpvr.

Has anyone else noticed this? I am using a PVR150 and the hauppauge remote

  [BUG] GB-PVR DVD Plugin
Posted by: ShiningDragon - 2006-09-21, 03:43 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I have some problems with playing back different DVDs. I can insert them and often navigate through the menus to the movies, ok, that's fine and the way it should be.

But: If i press "STOP" on the remotecontrol, then the playback stops and screen remains black. I can press stop as often i want, nothing happens.
If i use the ESC Button while watching a DVD, then i will come after first push to the already known "blackscreen" and after second push to the mainmenu.

The same, if the dvd was completely watched.

I am not the only one with this phenomen, and it's a bit annoying.

The other problem ist something special: Some DVDs include a "THX Optimizer" in their Menus. In my Case on my "Alien Quadrologie Saga" Collection. If i call this menu, then GB-PVR just freezes.

I am using the NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder for this (no trial version) and the normal DVD Menu Navigator.

If i can do something, to help you, please tell. I could try to rip this THX Part and offer it to you for diagnostic purposes, if you were interested.

  [BUG] Freezing GB-PVR after repeatedly pressed FWD/RWD
Posted by: ShiningDragon - 2006-09-21, 03:36 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi sub!

I couldn't find something similar. Since the last GB-PVR versions i could oberserve one annoying thing:

If i play a Movie (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DivX/XviD or anything else) and hit often the FWD or RWD Button, then GB-PVR will freeze and not respond anymore to anything. I have to start the Taskmanager and kill the process.

I am using the Microsoft MCE Remote V2a with it's Beanbag; within config the right model is choosed too. And i don't believe, that it has something to do with it.

I configured FWD for 60 secs step and RWD for 30 secs step. If i push slowly these buttons, then there's no problem. But if they're pressed just a little bit too much/fast, then GB-PVR freezes. The logs don't show any error Undecided

  Recording only produces 2kb file
Posted by: chris-at - 2006-09-21, 02:35 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

A few months ago I had some problems with with a Hauppauge card - ultimately I couldn't get it to work and gave up.

So now I've decided try again and bought a new card for GBPVR (a Terratec Cingergy 1200 DVB-S).

Unfortunately the problem remains: some recordings work and some don't :-(

I've attached the logs where the recording failed in all three cases.

When a recording does not work a small 2kb mpg file is produced (always with the same contents) - I've attached one.

I've also noticed that a 0byte file is created in the c:\Program Files...\GBPVR folder with the name of the recording (not always though).

Has anyone seen this before? How can I possibly fix this?

Thanks for any help!

PS: is http://www.gbpvr.com down? I wanted to check for a new version but I only get timeouts....

  Weird: FWD Skip sometimes skips back!
Posted by: stu8080 - 2006-09-21, 01:29 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (31)

I havent noticed anyone else with this problem, but i seem to have suffered this since 97.9.

Sometimes (about half the time) i skip or FF the file actually goes backwards! Theres never anything in the logs to explain this and i dont know where i should be looking to explain this?

I have 98.8b, no plugins, and use 3 Nova-T's with the 34 button remote plugged into one, and 'direct access to Haup remote' enabled.

Lately i have also seen the weirdest of issues, instead of skipping backwards, the file freezes, and the 'WAV' volume in the sound panel in windows is reduced to zero. Again, i dont know where to look for the problem?

Any ideas what might cause this and what i could try changing?

  is there a play/pause option for a button?
Posted by: zeltak - 2006-09-21, 12:53 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi

I am configuring the remote keys now and was wondering if there is anyway to have a command for play/pause (that is one press pauses another press on the same key plays it). i can only find documentation for a seperate play and pause function.

thx

  shows not deleted from client
Posted by: agidius - 2006-09-21, 12:34 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I am still very pleased with the way the server/client is running.

if I delete a show using the client, it is removed from the database, but it is still on the drive on the server.
