I am hoping that someone may be able to offer me some advice. Here is my situation:
I will shortly be moving in to my girlfriend's apartment. She has a brand new 32 inch Samsung LCD HDTV. I am currently a TiVo member, but I can't see paying $800 plus $13/month for their Series 3 box. My friend suggested that I should try gbpvr.
Currently my girlfriend has a simple wall to tv (no converter box) cable connection, but we are going to upgrade to either DirecTV or HD cable. Therefore, I am in the enviable position of choosing the best components from wall to tv to make my HD experience as nice as possible.
Any advice on Cable vs. DirecTV, The best (somewhat inexpensive) PC and HD tuner card, OS and software, and anything else I am not thinking of would be greatly appreciated. Here are the accepted inputs to the new TV.
Im trying to get the best quality possible... have found dscaler looks far better than gbpvr, and im trying to get the same performance, mainly in picture sharpness and motion clarity (dscaler looks like normal tv, gbpvr tends to 'skip' a little).
So, what have people found work for them best?
System =
2500+ at 2.00ghz, 200fsb
1gb ddr400 ram
hauppauge 150mce
mx440 vid card (have used other video cards, not limited by this as dscaler works perfectly with it).
When I upgraded to GB-PVR v0.98.8b, my custom 1 quality profile settings reverted to their defaults. This is quite minor, but I thought I'd mention it. It has happened to me on every upgrade, and, naturally, I forget to restore my settings until after I've made at least one recording.
Should the MVP be able to load and run off a Client? I know this is odd, but I have not been able to load 98.8 on my main machine yet but I have loaded it on a client. I got the client working and thought I would play with the new dongle, etc on the MVP. I checked to autostart server on the client, turned off the autostarts on my server, and unplugged the MVP. It finds the ethernet but can't find a server to load the dongle. It may be a network issue, but I did not want to mess with my net unless it should work in theory from the client. I switched the autostart back on the server and the MVP found it right away.
Hey everybody, I apologize up front for the length of this post, but the background is important...
I just built a new system and I have run into some interesting problems. The first problem was getting GBPVR to see both of my PVR150s... I ended up having to install one, configure it in GBPVR, update the EPG, reboot, shutdown, and repeat the process for the second card... that may be a well known issue, not sure.
BUT it led to another interesting problem...
Somehow during all of that taking cards out and rebooting and putting cards back in... I asked GBPVR to record two shows that were on at the same time when it only saw one tuner. Therefore, the later added recording requests showed up as Conflicts.
The problem is: Even after I added the second tuner and got GBPVR to recognize it, the recording requests still show up as Conflicts.
I have verified that I can use both tuners by recording one show and watching another simultaneously, I have also recorded two shows simultaneously with no problems.
I'll bet that if I cancel the recordings and re-add them the problem will go away, but I wanted to make everyone aware of the issue.
Hi, I've chosen the VMR9 custom allocator for playback. When I do this, my DVD (in this case the Lost - Season 2- Disc2) gets stretched to 4x3 AR with plenty of tearing. If I switch to regular VMR9, it goes to its standard 16x9 AR. I'm using the NVIDIA Purevideo decoder (latest version) and the AC3 decoder (from Sourceforge). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

EDIT: Well, I certainly didn't follow the etiquette of posting a problem at all. I'm on the 98.8 version, and I'm using the default skin. I'll upload the logs when I get back to my computer. Sorry
My PVR has been great, but I have just started to get the following error message when trying to watch TV on my Nova-T
"Error: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt"
I have checked and the card plays fine in WinTV - I dont know what is wrong (my PVR150 is still working fine)
The only thing I have done is to change my graqphics card to a nvidia 6200
Edit: I have jsut tried to acces it thorugh the configuration applet, but clicking on the map digital channels to epg channels comes up with another error message "GB-PVR was unable to stat the BDA device you have configured. Check the device is configured properly and not in use"
Had just set up GPVR with all EPG working perfect and thought i had figured it out when i get a virus and have to reinstall windows. I have now reinstalled the latest version of GBPVR however when i try to map channels to epg listings config crashes when it says initializing.
