I'm using my MVP simply to stream mpgs & Avi's from downloaded TV shows at the moment but I have noticed that the picture is terrible. I am using UK Scart but have none of the green bar problems other people seem to experience.
The picture appears very grainy, dark and the sound hisses slightly in the background. I know the video quality is fine as they play very well on my LCD monitor. Also this is happening on the main GBPVR menu with fonts difficult to read especially on the weather plugin. Any thoughts/known problems/fixes/tweaks anyone?
Also the rewind/fastforward commands dont seem to work on video playback, I was hoping for funtionality akin to media player classic which jumps seemlessly from point to point in the file and rewinds without stutter.
I just downloaded the latest EnhancedWebAdmin and it runs fine on my local machine (on port 80), but not on other machines on the LAN.
For instance, going to http://pvr/gbpvr/guide.aspx works fine when running on the machine called "pvr", but hitting this page from another box on the network produces:
[INDENT]Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

My configuration is fairly straightforward. Each machine on the lan has a fixed IP address, and a hosts file with the names of all the machines and their IP addresses, and can see/copy from each other fine. All machines run Windows XP Pro without any firewall software installed (Windows built-in one disabled). There are no other servers or services installed on the PVR box (that I know of) - and I've tried running on different ports (such as the default).
ie just started getting an object referance error when stopping live tv. which is most annoying as the program as been working great till now i have no dout it is something that i have done but for the life of my i can not work it out. i have attached the logs for gbpvr. any help would be greatly appriciated as this as to be the best htpc prog out there its rock steady.
thanks
I'm starting to dabble with the skins, and have some questions:
Can I make skins at my tv's native resolution of 1366x768, or am I stuck with 720x480? What file specifies this resolution?
Can I put a gradient on a text button, rather than just specifying a fill colour - or do I need to use DrawImage and build a button as a png instead?
The advisor tutorial skin is missing from the wiki (404). Any where else I can get it from?
Is it possible to animate elements (buttons, areas) when they are focussed or defocussed (e.g. smooth transitional slides, grow, fade, change colour) etc
Other than the fact that it would bog a machine down, is there a reason animated backgrounds aren't supported? MCE2005's animated background doesn't seem to put much strain on the box.
There's an animated png format called MNG - is that supportable (for fading buttons, etc)?
The XBox 360 has a nice menu with slidey 'tab' things on it which represent the different functions, such as music, games, etc. Is this sort of thing possible with the current skinning system?
In the Photo, Video and Net Radio modules, the back/exit button on the Hauppauge remote always goes up a directory level. In the Music Library it always returns to the main menu. I seem to remember that in past versions the button moved up a directory level when focus was on the right, but when focus was on the action buttons on the left then it went to the main menu. That was a bit confusing at first, but I actually prefer it. However, if you want a consistent and singular action, I think the Music Library should do a directory retreat on back. I say this because there is already a Menu button on the Hauppage remote that always goes to the main level, so back/exit for directory movement is more convenient than having to go up the top for the [..] link.
Bonus prize - find some way to be able to see filenames when they are too big for the screen (scrolling, multiple lines). I tried a smaller font in the skin but then the tops of the next line started to show when it wrapped and it didn't look right.
I just received my Hauppauge 500 and also have BeyondTV. I have seen on the web that many people reccomend GBPVR instead of BeyondTV. Since I have the Firefly remote, I was wondering if there was a plugin or something for it. I saw a post on the forum about it, but it looked like people were developing it. Is there somewhere I can be pointed to for this?
I have a few failed recordings on here cause the house lost power over the weekend so I didn't get a few of my shows. However, I see that I have these failed listing but gbpvr doesn't seem to delete them when I ask it to.
I am full up to the gills with reading and trying and transcoding. Since having kids 3 years ago I haven't played around with the PC much (used to a lot) but it looks like I missed the "rip DVD's and transcode" revolution. There's a truckload to learn!
Well, I now have 4 coasters and a succesful burn (yippee!). I have been trying MyVideos which to be fair to reven is pretty damn good, it's just my own inexperience that hasn't got me to actually perform the final step and burn a DVD with it yet, it got all the way to making the DVD's IFO and VOB files then stopped as (a) it was still slightly too big for a DVD and (b) the first time I ran out of disk space and got an ugly exit.
So my questions are all related ot a 2 hour show which I'm trying to squeeze onto a DVD5. I tried both my MyVideosRC3 and ConvertXtoDVD. I used ConvertXDVD (Trial, it is quite good, I had previously tried the free XVIDtoDVD version too) as although MyVideos worked well, it doesn't have auto-shrink (you need to make sure the thing will fit on a 2GB). Bearing in mind that:
1. A 0.9GB Xvid file of a show took 9hrs to to author a DVD and burn it, using ConvertXtoDVD.
2. A 5GB MPEG2 file of the same show took just 4hrs to author a DVD (but not burn it, although that step is very quick) using MyVideos.
3. A 5GB MPEG2 file of the same show took 6hrs to author the DVD (but not burn it, although that step is very quick) using ConvertXtoDVD. I didn't burn it as I was testing ConvertXtoDVD which has a watermark.
ConvertXtoDVD can shrink it automatically, so I guess that takes time too.
Q1. Presumably a 2 hour show does not fit on a DVD which has "120mins" stamped on it as there are simply many many different quality settings in GBPVR and by reducing the MPEG quality settings I can get it to fit? Would it possible to have GBPVR's default quality setting for high quality encoded by a PVR-150 to be just high enough to fit on a DVD5 disk?
Q2. Why did the 5GB MPEG2 file take less time to convert to DVD than the 1/5 size (0.9GB) XVID file? Is XVID encoding so complicated that it takes that long to convert it to a DVD.
Q3. I'm trying to send these shows to a friend. If he has a DVD Player than can play XVID/DIVX natively, can I just simply burn a (or even 4) 0.9GB file(s) onto a DVD and say here you go, play these, as that will be much faster than making a DVD, either from MPEG2 or XVID. Of course the transcoding from MPEG2 to XVID takes a wee while, but not that long. Do DVD players (not PC ones) recognize different files and ask which ones fo you want to play?
Q4. How much faster can I expect a "modern day CPU" to perform these tasks? Clearly 9 hours is a bane if I intend to do this on a regular basis.
I searched with no luck. I reinstalled my operating system and freshly installed gbpvr. I have audio with livetv but none with recordings. I fooled around with the playback settings with no luck. Any ideas?
