Being that every HTPC i have ever build has been for HDTV's i am new to the TV out world and I am about to build a HTPC for a low end TV. My questions are:
1. Can you view the desktop and such on a TV?
2. Any suggestions on a decent but cheap PCI video card with TV out?
I have some trouble getting my Plextor TV402U up and running properly with GB-PVR. The problem is to get a lock on the TV channels (the fault doesn't lie with GB-PVR, but maybe there's a workaround).
When I use the WinPVR software, that came with the Plextor, and invoking the autoscan function to find the channels ("North America" setting), all I get is ABC and UPN. After trying a lot of different things, I found out, that when I use another region setting in WinPVR ("Bahamas" - go figure) it allows me to manually fine tune the signal. And now I can click a preset channel (first getting noise only), take the manual tune slider down two notches and have a lock on the channel. This works consistently with all the channels (it's always the same direction and the same amount of manual correction I have to apply)!
So, I'm wondering where this frequency offset is coming from and more importantly how can I get GB-PVR to deal with it? Using an EPG (I signed up for zap2it) pretty much gives you preset fixed fequencies. Is there any way to manually adjust these? I should add, that I didn't sign up for any cable services, but just use what comes through the cable for free (which are a few basic channels; just enough for my needs).
I came across this little app which some may find useful. It took me about 30mins to go through and add all the missing folder.jpg's to our music collection (about 800 albums) and it only turned up a blank on about a dozen....
I had a running system. Then I noticed that my pvr 500 had a hardware problem. So I took the card out, removed the gbpvr software and set it up again when the new pvr 500 arrived. I also updated the ati graphic card of my pundit-r barebone.
So far I have only the 350 appointed in the gbpvr set up and everything seems to be working fine, except, that I can not watch any live tv.
I deinstalled everything, but I still can not watch any tv and have no sound. Watching recorded shows works fine. I have the nvidia decoder installed, I even deinstalled and reinstalled it to make sure the system properly recognizes everything.
Btw, when scanning the channels (gbpvr scanner), all the different programs appear nice and clear.
Oh, and one more thing, when I click on VMR9, the screen is entirely black, as soon as I click on the âOverlay Managerâ I can see the osd information.
I donât have a clue on what to do next. HELP!!!! If you have any suggestions, they are more than welcome!!!:o

Was trying a few new things with directory folder setting's and now the 8 shows that I had previously recorded are no longer listed in GBPVR under recorded shows.
What do I need to do to re-add them into GB? Is there a file to modify?

you should NOT try this if you are uncomfortable editing an xml file or expect it to be perfect.
there will be a few bugs, some things arent complete.
huge database changes which will mean you will lose some data (about 10%)
to download it you must register on my forum and all discussion of this should be held there (easier to keep track of all the bugs etc in there own forum, instead of one long post here).
