I just noticed over the weekend when adding a new HD to my server that something is wrong with the configuration app or the config.xml file.
I tried to set up folder's on the new drive in the directories section of the config app & in the VA panel plug-in along with setting the skin for my MVP & the settings are not sticking.
It looks like the directories were changed in the config.xml file but I don't know how that particular line in the config.xml file should be for 3 folders. So I can't say if the ~ should be in there between folder name & location or if the file just isn't being read?
Anyone know what could cause this?
I'm running XP SP2
The GBPVR system I am running has an on-board sound card "Realtek AC97" works OK, kinda noisey though, lottsa hum. The sound output is running through an Onkyo receiver.
Has anyone replaced their on-board sound card??
If so - with what card?? Any real improvements??
I have read that on-board sound cards suck up system resources - is that true??
When playing CD's I've noticed a flatness in the sound, highs and lows just aren't there................
I'm replacing my aging PC and would like some advice from those who've been there before. I'd like to build the new PC as a PVR but continue to use it as a PC as well. PC use would be limited to email, web browsing and MS Office-type apps; not into gaming or anything that would drain resources too much.
I have a few specific concerns I'd appreciate help with:
1) Is it viable to use a non-dedicated PVR. Assuming one output is to the TV (direct , not MVP) and the other is to PC monitor, can one person watch media output while the other uses the PC without affecting one another?
2) If the above can be done, can anyone recommend a card to handle the dual output. I'm thinking that the PC monitor can run off the motherboard and a separate card would handle the TV side of things but I've not run two displays before so I'm not really sure if it's better to get one card that will do both. Also, realistically how long can a cable to the TV be?
3) Is my proposed config up to the job? I'm still finalising the components (and am open to suggestions) but for now I'm planning to use:
Antec Aria quiet cube case
Asus KV8-MX motherboard (or similar. Would like to try the AMD Cool'n'Quiet technology and have at least 3 free PCI slots - the antec case will accommodate 4 PCI cards).
AMD Athlon 64 3000
Some form of quiet heatsink/fan (possibly one of Zalman products)
Samsung spinpoint 200Gb HDD
1Gb RAM
NEC ND-3550A DVD/RW (or similar)
2x Twinhan D&A PCI tuners
Windows XP
and last but not least, GBPVR
Any thoughts on the proposed setup?
4) I'd like to use a RF remote. Firefly looks a possible but I'm having trouble finding a UK distributer. Can anyone offer advice on an RF remote control?
There may well be other things I haven't considered. Am more than happy for people to point out if it looks like I'm going wrong somewhere!
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a possibility to convert DVD-AC3 Sound to Dolby-Surround-MP3s?
This would be great for watching movies on the MVP.
In the meantime i found that a tool called "HeadAC3he" is capable of encoding Dolby Surround audio, or a combination of SoftEncode and DSEnc.
Would be great if VideoArchive- or XDVD-Plugins could somehow make use of that, what do you guys think?
How can I get this plugin to step through the webcams? I tried using the blue button but it does not work. The screen is blank when I 1st go there and thereafter the image is stuck. If I restart gb-pvr then its OK. But again its stuck on the webcam.
When in xrecord when I schedule a recording in the option to chose which tuner I wish to capture with I only get a choice of 1 to 3 although I have 4 tuners. Is the limit or is there an issue with my set up?

Not sure if theis is the right place to ask or not. I am stationed in Germany and live on base. We receive Armed Forces Network which is transmitted in NTSC. I have a tuner installed for that and have it working complete with a TV guide. We also receive German channels transmitted in PAL. I have a multisystem TV so I can get all the channels on my TV. Could I add another turner card PAL standard, find another xml feed for the German channels and have gbpvr mix them all together for me so it worked just like my multisystem tv with the added function of one tv guide that showed all the listings together?
