I've been using the Auto-convert options for my recordings to modify them to work on a video iPod. This has been working without errors, but I'd like to tweak the conversion settings to get better quality. The "settings" box is greyed out, so I can't change it from within GB-PVR...
What I want to change is:
1. Leave the resolution as-is. Currently the conversion down-converts the video to 320x240 (from a 720x480 original mpeg2 as recorded by gb-pvr using 'medium' settings)
2. Leave the frame rate intact (as 24 fps) Currently the conversion is changing this to 15 fps.
3. Improve quality (less compression artifacts). This might be fixed by fixing 1 and 2, but may need to be addressed separately.
Firstly GBPVR is a wonderful piece of software and works very well for me.
One curious hiccup I get is the occasional 0 byte recording. This seems to occur olny after the PC has been left on for several days continiously. I tend to blame windows or PC clutter or tuner drivers.
So provided I restart daily there is no problem. But I forget.. or go away... or am busy.. or the PC is busy... and so occasionally... damn! (Always something the wife really wants )
'0 byte' threads come up pretty regularly so I wondered - Does anyone else see this trend?
I have this error that keep happening when I reach one of the channels row (specific one) in the TV Guide. This error ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object.") through me back to the main menu.

I am not sure if it's possible to do what I am trying to do and I am looking for your feedback/thoughts to any of the below "challenges".
What I want to do is have cable and Free-to-Air connected to PC so that I can do what PVR allows me to do (is it possible to have two different video/audio inputs?)
In addition, I want to have the ability to play DVDs, burn DVDs, and have internet connection.
All of this connected to a TV (not a computer screen).
I want my PC to be in a basement and my TV plus DVD burner on the fist floor (distance between PC and DVD is about 2 FT [or 60 cm) and distance between PC and TV is about 6 FT [or 180 cm])
The IR for the free-to-air, cable, and mouse/keyboard will be sitting beside the DVD.
I have a PC running XP (PIII 500MHz with 512MB RAM and 80GB HD [7200 RMP])
I've done a bit of research and it seems like the best DVD burner is NEC ND-3550A, the best TV tuner card is Hauppauge PVR350 (comes with IR and remote), the best free-to-air card is Twinhan VisionPlus VP1020A (about $80 US) (comes with IR and remote)
I will also need the satelite dish and the network card plus mouse/keyboard is not going to be a problem.
What else do I need?
Will the distance between TV/DVD/PC going to be a problem?
Will PC create any interferances?
Should I chose Linux or Windows? (I am comfortable with Linux but I would rather go with windows)
Which software should I chose that will allow me to connect both tuner cards (please note that I am in Ontario, Canada, and TV Guide plus weather service would be a VERY nice to have thing)
Can a PIII handle everything?
Is this even possible? I have a wife who doesn't like me to spend money so I don't want to buy anything that won't work
Do you know of any store in the GTA area that sells any of the free-to-air equipment?
Ok.. this has to be the most stupid question in awhile... but I just can't solve the isues of using playlists with "My Music"
Perhaps it would be best if someone could just give me an A-B-C of creating playlists using My Music. I can create a playlist by highlighting a single song track and then selecting Save Playlist and typing in a title. The problem is, I can't seem to add anything to that playlist later. It is just a single song.
Alternatively, I have itunes installed and have a few playlists in itunes, but when I try to point to the folder containing the itunes playlists in "config" it doesn't work. If you use itunes, could you tell me how to get your itunes playlists to show up on "my music"
Finally, I went to Windows Media Player and created a few playlists there also, but although I can get my media to find the playlist folder and title, I can't get it to use the songs that are stored in that playlist on windows media.
Of course I can access my individual songs using the file names in My Music, but want playlist ability. I am missing something obvious here, could someone please help get me started?
This problem occures fairly often. Last night one show was recorded successfully, but the recording that started this afternoon ended up as a 0kb file. When I checked the PC after getting from work the MS "do you want to send an error repport" dialog box greated me, GBPVRTray still think that the recording is on going.
This happens from time to time, i get the feeling that the first recording always works but the second one fails.
I use 0.96.16 with a pinnacle 300i used strictly with DVB-t
Is there mor logging that I can enable, or is there anything else that can assist in finding this problem

Last night I decided to upgrade to the latest GBPVR. Everything seems to go well. However, since then comskip perfomance has degraded. It used to be about 99% acurate, now it misses lots of commercials. It happened with CBS 60 minutes and NBC dateline. I checked the version with what I had, both are .77 with the same ini and dictionary file (same timestamps). The logs do not show any problems. I never changed the ini file, so I have no idea where to start to fix this problem. I do not know what changed in GBPVR that would affect comskip, especially that compskip did not change. Any help is greatly appreciated, I did realize how useful comskip has been until today.
