I have some MPEG-2 files that are 720x480 resolution (widescreen letterboxed) and when I play them back through the MVP, only the center 640x480 pixels are shown, the rest is clipped. Is there no way around this? I really don't want to alter the files themselves if I don't have to.
Hi all. I've been running GB-PVR for about 8 months now. I began using it when I upgraded from an ATI All-In-Wonder to a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500. Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 wasn't supported in NZ at the time (Though I tried to give it a go) and GB-PVR was the only PVR software I could find that I could manually specify the channel frequencies.
I've recently upgraded the motherboard, CPU and RAM of my PVR. Since rebuilding the machine, I've been having grief with GB-PVR. I was running v0.94.13 and then tried v0.95.16. In a nutshell I'm having the "No audio in Live TV" problem that so may others seem to have. And the "LastVolume" key in the registry doesn't exist. The kicker is, I'll have audio for a while, and then it will disappear. And a (Temporary) fix when the audio goes it to re-install GB-PVR. And sound comes back right away each time after a re-install, so I don't want to hear anything about muxes or what not. Needless to day, the audio problem will appear around the time my wife wants to watch something, so she's breaking my balls here...
In addition to the audio issue, we were away over Christmas and left the PVR running to record some programs. Two of the six programs failed to record. The files were created but they had zero size. Two of the shows that did record had a stuttery "click-click-click" sound the whole way through them. And Finally, since the upgrade I've had intermittent issues being able to watch Live TV while recording. GB-PVR states "No tuner is available". Yet both tuners are configured correctly. When surfing through the channels, there is the pause between the channel range on one tuner and the next. And it has worked flawlessly in the past. So we tried watching the recording program while it was taping, and the "click-click-click" was there the hole time.
I'm not complaining mind you. GV-PVR is "free" so one can't complain. It's just frustrating. I'm going to give Media Center another go now that R2 is out for NZ. I just hope it autoscans the UHF range so it can find all the channels. Then I'll be sorting through all the Media Center issues that drive me to GB-PVR...

Tried with current Cyberlink and Nvidia DVD decoders with VMR9/7 and Overlay Manager (What ever those are) and they haven't made any difference.
I do have some experience with GBPVR - I'm using it my self with a PVR350 card and have done a lot of tweaking and tuning.
Now I have installed it on another PC with a PVR250 card. Everything is set up - and compared to my existing and running PC. EGP works, and so on. I have transferred the Hauppauge WinTV2000 frequencies to the registry database with FrequencyCopy, and I have checked manually thet that are there etc.
But - when entering the TV guide (or just Live TV) and selecting one of the configurred channels all I get is a black screen with no TV video or audio.
The WinTV2000 app works fine with the manually entered channels - so the card works.
Just accessed GBPVR for the first time in 2006.....It appears all my entries in the DB that had a 2005 recrding date are now gone from the DB. The recordings are still there but the entries in the DB are gone. :mad:
I am assuming this is a bug.....has anyone else experienced this?:confused:
I've been working through my GB-PVR skin, but I'm finding that I run out of memory after 2-3 days. I don't have any errors listed in the logfile until the PendingRecording panel tries to refresh, then it throws an "Out of Memory" error. The recording service is still running, but the GUI freezes and GB-PVR memory usage is around 149,000k.
The reason I suspect that the skin is causing this issue is (1) no one else has reported this issue with the latest release and (2) it's only been in the last two weeks since I'd tweaked the skin a bit more.
So, after the long preamble, the question I have is: Is it more memory-efficient to use button graphics and the DrawImage method (the skin refers to six different button.png files), or is it better to use the DrawRoundedRect method for button graphics?
This is a port of a Beyond TV skin by Darren E. This is not a complete skin yet, and only the main menu has been skinned. With that said, I mainly did this to test out a feature that sub added to the last release in the skinning engine. The ability to include the task images in the button itself.
Personally I'm not a big fan of the lone task image being displayed. I'd rather go for the Iconic approach and have the image displayed at all times next to the text it goes with. This is now possible with the GBPVR .95 series.
Anyway, this is more of an experiment for me than anything else, and I may not finish the skin entirely. Regardless when I get to a certain point, I'll start posting the skinning pieces to the wiki as well.
Has anyone put together a sticky, on what GBPVR is cabable of with an MVP, some of the issues, (DVD playback etc) with one, what they do well, what they don't do well??
I'm thinking about getting one to access recorded content and maybe live tv from another room.
Just interested to know what sort of limitations there are, what effects it will have on my main GBPVR box (memory, cpu), what plugins work well, don't work etc.
Been working with GBPVR for the past week or so, and am still tweaking everything.
I am running on a Dell Dimension 8200, P4 1.7, 256MB RDRAM. Got two HDD's, 40GB and 80GB. Ive set the 40GB as my system, music, and downloaded video drive, and the 80GB drive is solely for live tv buffering and recorded show storage.
I am having an issue when I bring up any kind of OSD while watching live tv, that the live tv pauses briefly, or jerks for a few seconds, while im doing anything with the OSD. If i let the OSD sit on screen, video resumes playing smoothly, but as soon as i press a button, like to browse to another line on the guide, video chops up again. I have been assuming this is related to memory on the machine (256MB, yuck), but wanted to see if anyone had suggestions before I plopped down the cash for more RDRAM.
Things I have tried:
- Quartz DLL fix
- Disabling Deinterlacing
- Tried at VMR9, VMR7, Overlay Manager
Also, the second issue I am curious about. When the STB has its channel changed, it pops up a channel banner, which you can see through the OSD provided by GBPVR. I searched the skin files for some type of setting, but couldnt find it. Is there a way to make the channel "marquee" that pops up when you change channels solid instead of transparent? Also, is there a way to increase the duration that the "marquee" stays on the screen? If i can make it stay up for like 2-3 more seconds, it can hide the comcast banner pretty nicely.

I am in NZ (PAL) and am having trouble trying to tune the ini file. Out of the box I am getting a very poor result and after trying to tune it it is no better! Is there someone with a well tuned NZ setup who would be prepared to share their settings? Or is this more a system by system problem?
Where I am at so far. The black frames seem to be being picked well as shown by using the 'n' and arrow keys in the overlay but the final result is bad. It seems to be discarding logo info, too, even though there is a logo on my test file.
