changing channels in guide - stupid user question
Posted by: mt900spg - 2019-12-19, 05:15 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

I apologize if this is a stupid question or on the wrong board. I'm a recent convert moving away from WMC due to the end of Windows 7 support. So far I'm pleased with NextPVR but we can't figure out how to easily change the channel in the guide. Typing a channel number on the keyboard will not move to the channel in the guide. I can just type a channel number during live tv and it changes, is there not the same capabilities in the guide? We can use the up and down arrows or the page up or down, but how do you jump to a specific channel. I feel like I'm missing something totally obvious. Thanks for any guidance.

Some channel guide data gone, EPG update problem
Posted by: 4zm4r3d02 - 2019-12-19, 01:15 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (12)

The main page of the NPVR web interface shows no recordings pending, although there should be some there. Four of the channels show (no listings) in the guide. When I go to Settings>Guide and press "Update EPG", at the end it displays the message "EPG Update complete. [0 inserted, 0 updated, 0 skipped]". Pressing "Empty EPG" doesn't seem to do anything. I tried stopping and restarting the NPVR service and rebooting the pc but that didn't help. Channels still seem to be mapped and associated with SD lineup. Everything was working yesterday, don't know what happened. Logs attached.

EPG update failing with 403 but works in other apps.
Posted by: foltz61 - 2019-12-19, 01:14 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (8)

My EPG updates are failing with a 403 forbidden error. The EPG in Perfect Player using the same URL works fine. I can't post my URL due to my password being included. Let me know what you need from me to get you what you need.

Thanks.

Edit:

This is on the current build but it was happening on the previous build also. I thought it was a provider issue until I decided to see if it worked with Perfect Player.

With a production version NextPVR likely being released soon I am curious what the user feelings are at this stage. Please feel free to add specific comments

  V5 sort recurring recordings
Posted by: CDinger - 2019-12-18, 03:05 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (5)

For ease of maintenance of the recurring recordings it would be great to be able to sort by title. I believe the older windows version could sort by title and creation date.

I am assuming all V5 versions have the same interface but specifically I am interested in linux.

Thumbnail support for .wtv and .avi files in version 5
Posted by: Jimixter - 2019-12-18, 09:16 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

Whilst I am currently a NextPVR v4 user, the following post has suggested that version 5 does not currently have thumbnail support for .wtv files originating from Windows Media Centre (WMC), which is why I am raising this wish-list item. Microsoft support for Windows 7 will cease next month, and so there may be a number of users who are looking to migrate their libraries across to NextPVR which is by far the best alternative in my opinion!

https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=60141

To get thumbnails to work for .wtv, .avi, etc. files in version 4, I have installed the TV Listings plug-in, which searches for image files of the same name in the same directory as the video files. I have then used the script in the above thread to generate thumbnail files in bulk once all the .wtv files have been imported to NextPVR. This is working well, but from later posts in the thread above it sounds as though neither this plug-in nor thumbnails for .wtv files will not be supported in version 5.

As a feature request/suggestion, and without yet being familiar with version 5 (apologies if this post is misguided), it would be great if NextPVR could automatically analyse any video files (.wtv, .avi, etc) added to the library during the import stage (asynchronously in the background), and generate its own thumbnails which it would then store within the database itself (rather than as separate files). This appears to be how WMC works. The thumbnails could then potentially be retrieved by other clients such as Kodi or Android apps, etc.

A number of other media centre platforms (Kodi, Plex, Media Portal 2) attempt to use third party scrapers to retrieve artwork and provide graphics, but in practice I found that all of these platforms were unsuccessful in retrieving artwork for the vast majority of our recorded TV library. The process relies on meticulous file naming and the sorting of files into sub-folders (also confirming to the same naming conventions), and potentially the use of additional third party tools such as Media Center Master to do it for you. This all became way too user intensive to set up and manage for our library of 1100+ files (3 TB), and in fact became impossible to implement as neither Kodi nor Media Portal 2 appeared to be able to differentiate between a one-off TV recording and a TV series, and would save one-off recordings into the "Films" folder instead and would use the wrong scraper! It was a frustrating experience.

Ideally, I would like to see continued support for .wtv thumbnails in version 5. If an automated process is not possible, it would be great to retain the ability to use image files in the same location as the video files, as the TV Listings plug-in uses today.

  Move to Raspbery Pi ?
Posted by: ceejayemm - 2019-12-17, 10:47 AM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (6)

Hi

I have been using NPVR 4.x, and more recently v5.x, on an aging PC ruinning Windows 10 Home for some time and like the way NPVR works.  This has worked well but the recent purchase of a HDHomeRun Quatro and the the fact that the PC is beginning to show signs of age is making me wonder about replacing the PC with (perhaps) a Raspberry Pi for NPVR and associated program guide data download purposes only. I do however have a number of questions which I need some help answering before I make this leap:

1. What spec of Raspberry Pi is best suited to running NPVR 5.x.  Does the old mantra of most processor / memory for your budget still apply ?

2. Should I install Raspbian as the OS and install NPVR directly to this or use the Docker installation - I have no current experience of Docker but have used various flavours of Linux in the past.

3. To use NPVR Program Guide with the HDHomeRun device requires a seperate process to download the necessary XML data file.  I currently use Digiguide as a source for UK Freeview program data and XMLTV GUI to turn it into format that NPVR can import. This however requires the Digiguide Windows app to provide a web service in order to perform the download.  What do others use to get UK Freeview program data for NPVR use - details of grabbers and sources would be useful.

4. Any first hand experience of using a Raspberry Pi with NPVR v5.x would be greatly received.

Many thanks for any help / advice anybody can provide.

Chris

  Android Client wont connect
Posted by: Mark-McG - 2019-12-17, 08:14 AM - Forum: NextPVR Android Client - Replies (12)

Hi all,

Thanks for all the help so far. I am running NPVR V5 on my remote server and connecting my devices too it.

I have got it working succesfully on iOS so im confident I dont have an issue with my networking.

When I try to add the server to the NextPVR android client on my Nvidia shield it just wont connect. The error suggests that it couldnt establish any connecting and I should check that NPVR is running (Which it is).

I have attached my logs - can anyone spot anything wrong?

  Password Reset
Posted by: zed - 2019-12-17, 02:56 AM - Forum: Linux - Replies (4)

After several years on the dark side (DirecTV, Cox cable) I've cut the cable and returned to NextPVR. I started with it way back when it was GBPVR release 0.something and it looks even better now. So now I'm back among the faithful.

Enough nostalgia, on to my problem...

I'm running the latest 5.1 release on Ubuntu 19.04. I somehow managed to hose up the password and I can't figure out what it is so I can't log in via the web interface. I saw a posting by sub that it can be reset by editing the config.xml file but damned if I can find the file anywhere on the system. So, can someone tell me where it is or what file I should be looking at?

Many thanks...

V5 web UI "new" flags on search & scheduler tabs
Posted by: snagglewest - 2019-12-17, 01:43 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

The title says it all, on the V5 web UI could the "new" flag be added to the results in search & scheduler tabs like it is in the TV guide tab?  I manage recordings almost exclusively in the web UI and it would be very helpful to see the "new" episodes at a glance.
