  Direct record
Posted by: dogstar - 2005-08-25, 10:39 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (1)

Hi, I'm new to all this and experimenting with direct recording to DVD-RW using GBPVR. I have a Hauppage 350, using a Nvidia MX440 s-video to TV.

I'm using GBPVR's direct recording plugin with Mpeg 2 encoding so I'm getting roughly four hours using the lowest settings, which are:

PAL: 352x576;
Constant bitrate: 1500kbits/sec;
Audio bitrate: 128;
Audio samplerate: 44khz

1.) Is there any way to lower the settings beyond these parameters as the next lowest settings are for NTSC only?

2.) Is there any way of changing from Mpeg2 on the fly recording to any of the other Mpeg encoders? (eg. Mpeg4 which has a better compression rate.)

3.) If none of the above, is there any other Mpeg2 encoder that gives any finer control over resolutions and bitrates?

I know there are external devices that use other encoders, such as DIVX, WMA etc, but I'm primarily focusing on the Hauppage series, internal cards as they appear to be the most popular choices.

I've been through the forum threads and so far can find nothing which comes close. Can anyone help?

  Small My Videos/XRecord Req

If you could use the play button to start a file.

I'm not sure if I'm like other people, and use play to start watching a show instead of using ok, and then watch.

Also, it just seems natural to press play to being playing something.

  Alert when upcoming programs match keyword criteria
Posted by: jimh - 2005-08-25, 09:35 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

I'll probably write the utility that takes care of this, but I thought I'd get some input from the GBPVR community beforehand...

I would like my PC to notify me when an upcoming program matches some text criteria that I have previously specified. For example, let's say that I am a Dallas Cowboys fan and I want to know about any upcoming program that pertains to the Cowboys. What I want to be able to do is set a "watch list" of text patterns that is automatically searched for each time an EPG update is completed. I do not want to have to manually do the search myself (such as via a FastFind search) - I want to set it once and then simply wait for an alert.

In this case, I would specify something to the effect of "Alert me when you find the exact string "Dallas Cowboys" somewhere in either the program title or program description. Because I would almost certainly *not* want all matching programs to be recorded, I would want the software to either simply alert me, perhaps via email or a popup window (and let me manually add the program(s) I want recorded) or else ask me about each one and take care of the scheduling for me. Similarly, if I were a Cary Grant fan, I would set up another query pattern that checks for his name. Even though GBPVR does not keep extended EPG fields (such as an "actors" field), starring actors' names often appear in the program description field for movies (at least this appears to be true for Zap2It listings in the U.S.). Perhaps the software could optionally take advantage of the extra data maintained by the highly useful ZapTools.

Of course, I could keep as many "search patterns" as I would like.

I'm not aware of any current GBPVR plugin or utility that performs any task such as this on an automated basis.

Any thoughts/suggestions/comments appreciated...

  Can I add a Nova-T alongside my existing PVFR-350?
Posted by: gEd - 2005-08-25, 09:27 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

My 350 is working just fine but I now want to add Freeview support.

Does anyone have any idea if adding a PCI Nova-T will work alongside the 350?

  anyway to by-pass VMR-9 support block?
Posted by: scott - 2005-08-25, 08:46 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

Hi - My GB-PVR runs on a machine connected soley to a TV. Works great, but to facilitate the machine's maint., GB-PVR config., and management of my recordings I set up XP's remote connection between my laptop and the dedicated PVR.

One problem. I have the dedicated machine running VMR-9. The laptop is older and does not support VMR-9. Apparently, when I've tunneled into the dedicted machine and launch GB-PVR, the PVR programming is sensing that the laptop doesn't support VMR-9 and gives me the warning screen and won't let the program run.

I CAN get into the program and adjust things IF I've already launched GB-PVR on the dedicated box by the way... not a biggie - but I'm curious about this...

  ATI Tuner Card
Posted by: KosmoX - 2005-08-25, 08:00 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I have an ATI TV Wonder Pro Tuner card. This is not listed as one of the recording sources in the config. I have tried all of the other ATI cards, but none will work. I know the drivers are properly installed because I can watch live TV in the media center that came with the card. The reason I am trying to get this to work is so that I can set record times and use the other features. If anybody knows what I can do to get this to work, please let me know.

  Skip or Resume on MVP => "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
Posted by: johnvk - 2005-08-25, 07:56 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (14)

On the MVP, when pressing skip forward / backward or resume on recorded mpg-files, the TV goes black and the log files gives the following errors:

25-8-2005 21:00:32.281 ERROR [38] Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
25-8-2005 21:00:32.281 ERROR [38] at q.a(Double A_0)
at ah.a(Object A_0, KeyEventArgs A_1)
at ah.b(Object A_0, KeyEventArgs A_1)
at q.a(Object A_0, KeyEventArgs A_1)
at q.aj()

I am using GBPVR 93.10; new dongle.bin is loaded into the MVP; MVPMedia service is disabled, MVPMediaSvc service is enable othwise the MVP doesn't connect to GBPVR. Installed it all on a newly installed system: only WinXP some drivers, Hauppauge MVP software and GBPVR

When skipping & resuming on the PC, all works fine; but doing the same on the MVP fails.

Anyone any clues?

  Pausing Live Tv is perfect but recordings stuuter all over the shop!
Posted by: jonmck - 2005-08-25, 04:39 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I have the penulitmate version of GBPVR, a COMPRO T200 card which I can tune it prefectly. (I have also tried the most recent version) T200 records perfectly through its own software

I can pause Live tv without a prolem but all my recordings have stutters, some just slight, others massive glitches in every frame.

I have tried Cyberlink muxes 3002221, 4002212, and 500727 - they al either cause stuttering or makew the GBPVRrecordingservice crash.

I also have PVR 250 installed in my system - it works fine on its own.

Any help would be great
