I'm really hoping someone can help me here before I tear out all my hair. First, I'll give some background.

I've been trying to get some sort of media centre type setup going. First, I bought a Nova-T with XP MCE 2005. I have since found that my graphics card (GeForce 2MX) is woefully underspecced for MCE 2005, so while I could detect and record TV successfully and watch it through Windows Media Player 10, I couldn't watch live TV.

Until I have some money to upgrade it, I thought I'd look at any MCE alternatives. I tried Media Portal, which managed to display TV, but was slow and would hang for no reason.

I came across GBPVR and the user interface seems very snappy, and looks to be exactly what I'm after.

However, I can't get it to detect any channels when I click "Map digital channels to EPG channels". With Media Portal, I could only pick up a few channels (ftn, The Hits, Sky News, Sky Travel, UKTV History and Bright Ideas). I got the same set of channels with MCE, but once I managed to get the full set with MCE. This is over the course of many reinstalls of the OS.

So, I tried selecting only the channels I knew I could detect in the EPG, and still got the "No channels could be found" error after the scan. This is regardless of which of my local transmitters I use (a Freeview website told me Ridge Hill was the local one for where I live in Gloucester), but I've tried Oxford, Mendip, Malvern, and a few others with no success.

The annoying thing is, that during the scan, it clearly can pick up some channels, as it displays them very clearly in the preview, and I can hear the audio perfectly. Sky News is an example of a channel shown in the preview while the scan is taking place.

I am using the HCW2.1 version of the Nova-T drivers, and selecting the BDA recorder plugin and "Hauppage Nova-T (90002)". I have not installed any other Hauppage tools (as these seemed to kill MCE when I was trying that).

I have reinstalled Windows (XP MCE 2005) twice while trying to get GBPVR to work. The last two times, I have not touched Media Centre in case running that does something to kill GBPVR.

Also, I have installed CyberLink PowerDVD 5 (OEM that came with my DVD burner), and I still get a warning message from GBPVR telling me that I need to install an MPEG2 multiplex filter. I don't know if this would cause no channels to be found.

I have also tried the uk.reg file for the Nova-T that changes a couple of registry entries relating to the use of 2k vs 8k. This makes no difference.

Anyone have any ideas?

Help! Trying to setup a system as follows-
AMD XP3000 / 512MB PC3200 / 80+120Gb SAta (system/video) / ATI9200 128Mb DVI+VGA
2 x Nova-T USB2 (device numbers 1 & 2) on hwc21nova drivers
1 x Media MVP

Having problems setting up tuners-
using BDA plugin- set to nova-t usb2 / Southern England / Crysta Palace
using XMLTV plugin- looking at a file generated by xmltvrt application (have tried BLEB too but dosen't list all channels)
When you first try to map channels after grabbing the EPG it crashes the config app with the attached error popups (can be avoided if you select none for EPG after using XMLTV or BLEB after grabbing the EPG).
On restarting the config app it will allow mapping (with XMLTV or BLEB selected), map the channels as best I can then ok - time and again it seems to 'forget' the mapping for some channels, and GB-PVR blobs out back to giving a 'Channel tuning information not known' error.
The channels its forgetting are UKTV Bright Ideas, E4+1, ABC1 & ITV3 (although it was forgetting UKTV History, UKTV Bright Ideas & some others, while remembering ITV3 in a previous incarnation using BLEB).
Does this repeatedly, forgets mapping between chosing mapping, oking, closing the main 'edit' window, and, hitting edit a second time (mapping forgotten again).
Any ideas?
Also-
Is it possible to use the embedded EPG in the DVB stream? Would seem more elegant / robust.
Why won't the scan (I assume this is Hauppauge teritory) work as well as the £34 piece-of-shite freeview box I got from Tescos? That finds seperate channels/mappings for BBC3 & 4 & CBBC & CBeebies when ther're on or off air and displays a slate for the off air channels (ok it DOES also seem to put mains on the aerial socket too but no one's perfect...).
Have'nt had the chance to try it yet but do/can you get interactive functionality via GB-PVR - 'press your red button' style?

Despite these probs very impressed overall! Especially via MVP (sluggishness sometimes aside).

So mce 500 card ( dutch pc so i had to adjust the direct.ini in order to get
the channel scanning to work )

What did i do:

1. Downloaded the mce drivers from hauppauge + installation
2. did the necessary updates ( dot net ... )
3. adjusted direct.ini
4. made 2 capture sources pvr-500 ( mce tuner 1 and mce tuner 2 )
5. mce tuner 1: boardnumber 1
6. mce tuner 2 : boardnumber 2
7. Run the scanning module and wrote down the founded channels
8. Went down the capture sources panel and inserted the names for both the
capture sources.
9. I can watch live tv or record a show
10. But when i am watching and want to record something it says that no more tuners are available ?? ( in menu i see that mce tuner 2 is sleeping )
11. The oppisite also happens: when i am recording someting and start the live tv module it gives me the message that i can only watch te rocorded program because there are no more tuners available.
12. I also tried to change the boardnumber of the mce tuner 2 to 1 ( so the same as mce tuner one but it stil gives me the same error ???
13. Any ideas ???
14. After searching the forum i thougt that a patched file called ( nativeutilities.dll ) might solve my problem but i can't seem to find it here

Instead of

I'd like to see

2005-08-01 1300 - 1500 Monday

I can deal with the AM/PM stuff (easy conversion, most of the time), but going from date to a day means looking it up in a calendar.

with at least two spaces between the date and time. By putting the day last it won't screw up the column alignment since it's easier to read if the columns line up. You could choose to use AM/PM or 24hr time based on the regional settings.


At least, I think 1 August is Monday.

`If I set a manual recording, I can just select it, and press cancel to stop it recording.

That does not seem to work with a recording I have made from TV Guide. If I select it in recordings, and press cancel, the tray icon still shows green.

Is there a 'proper' way to stop a recording while it is in progress?

I'm wondering if I missed something with installing the Theater Plugin. I put the TheaterPlugin.dll in the Plugins folder and put my zip code in the batch file. I then put the batch file and the GetTheaterListings.exe file in the gbpvr directory (I even tried putting them in the plugin directory), but it doesn't do anything when I navigate to the Theator screen. It says "They're no shows to". I went to fandango.com and put in my address and movies were pulled back.

Is less than 7 days worth of data normal for GBPVR's EPG? When I use Zap2It through GBPVR, I just end up with about six days (or less) worth of data. If I use the XMLTV plugin through GBPVR, I end up with more data -- so far about 3 or 4 more days worth.

In troubleshooting this, I cleared out my channel line up and then switched back to using Zap2It. I ended up back with only six or so days of data, and then just five minutes later I'm downloading 3 or 4 more days of data via the XMLTV and the XMLTV plugin, which also uses the Zap2It service, right?

Is there any way I can get GBPVR's Zap2It option to give me more days, since it doesn't seem like it's Zap2It that's the problem on this one. I'd rather use GBPVR's Zap2It option since it's more automated.

Also a question -- does putting an updateEPG.bat file in the GBPVR folder still work for running a script prior to updating the EPG? I saw that tip in a much older thread, and didn't know if it was still true with the latest version.

I cannot get MP3 encoding to work even after spending three weeks trying all sorts of things from this forum and other places on the 'net.

My Plextor ConvertX TV402U will record in the GB-PVR's default MP2 audio mode, but, I cannot later modify these files in Virtualdub (it tells me it can't find a proper decoder CODEC.)

I've been able to encode LIMITED quality MP3 audio, but never anything over 56 kbs! I've got LAME installed on my system and would love to be able to use this CODEC, but I can't seem to figure out how to get GB-PVR to use it.

After uninstalling the default Fraunhaufer MP3 CODEC that Windows (2000) has installed (with Windows Media Player 9) I tried installing a copy of the Fraunhaufer MP3 Pro CODEC that comes with WMP 10. That would only allow me to record a few seconds of audio, then stop all GB-PVR recording.

I reinstalled the default Fraunhaufer CODEC, but now GB-PVR will not record in MP3 AT ALL (not even at 56 kbs.)

I've attached a zip file with my log files. There is a clue in one of the log files that seems to point to the problem:
20:55:58.465 VERBOSE FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: MPEG Layer-3
20:55:58.585 ERROR ConnectFilters:Failed(2)

Any suggestions on what I can try now?

After reading previous post is the USB-UIRT supported as a input device to control GBPVR or was this removed? :confused: The USB-UIRT just blinks when I try to use my remote and nothing happens in GBPVR in any area of the program.

I was able to take a remote from an old DVD player and program the codes under the DVD-Remote tab in the GBPVR config program.

It is working fine as a blaster to control my Dish Network receiver.
I'm using the latest V1.3 UIRT driver.

Did I miss setting something somewhere?
