Make PVR appear as a Channel on your cable?
Posted by: CaptainVideo - 2005-03-30, 02:49 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (5)

You know how an FM RF transmitter can transmit on an unused FM frequency? Why not have your PVR transmit on an unused cable channel? Like channel 115?

Does anyone know if there's hardware available to do this? Unfortunately, both channels 3 and 4 are used or I might try to hack a VCR! I suppose I could build and RF trap to filter out 3 or 4, but it would be nice to find a simpler solution.

Thanks in advance!

Error: "..target machine actively refused it"
Posted by: CaptainVideo - 2005-03-30, 02:42 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (21)

"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"

I keep getting this error after scheduling a few programs. The gbpvr.mdb recording_schedule table appears to get corrupted leading you to THINK a recording is scheduled, but it really isn't.

That's a symptom, but I have no idea what the cause is. If I check the "GBPVR.MDB" database I find entries with incomplete start and/or end times. Like this:

manual_start_time manual_end_time
4/1/2005 11:00:00 PM 4/2/2005

I also have entries like this:

manual_start_time manual_end_time
1/1/2001 1/1/2001

Can anyone help? I can't graduate this thing from the basement to the living room if I can't resolve issues like this!

Thanks in advance!

  Config.xml Oddities
Posted by: Landru - 2005-03-30, 01:03 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I have a couple of questions relating to what I perceive as config.xml oddities.

1) In the extras section, I find two <WakeMachineForEPGUpdate> entries, one set true, the second set false. Should they both be there, and if not, does the first or second control the behavior of the system?

2) I also have two <DatabaseConnectionString> entries, one set to the default location on C:, the other set to where the database actually resides. Same questions, and should I delete the redundant entry?

3) Finally, is there a document anywhere that describes the config.xml entries?

Thanks!

  Video Library Playback 350tv out
Posted by: onestar - 2005-03-29, 10:21 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

Another question Smile,

I put some mpgs into the video directory. When I go to play them the following is observed.

1. 1 mpg starts about 4 mins in. Will not start from the begining
2. 2nd mpg starts at a random deep location. Again will not start from the begining.
3. FF/REW put the system back to the menu
4. Resume throws the playback back to menu.

this is via the HW decoder 350 tvout

I thought perhaps I had messed up the mpgs, but they play fine in media player, and gbpvr software mpg decoder.
*edit* also play fine using the win2000 tool, eg starts from the begining

Any ideas please.
Thanks

  Displaying Games/Apps on TV
Posted by: goveRtime - 2005-03-29, 08:07 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I just built an HTPC from scratch (my first attempt - fortunately no hardware issues). So far, I have just about everything running fine in GB-PVR, however, the picture quality could use A LOT of improvement. Its real grainy and has white lines on the bottom and right hand side of the screen too. Any suggestions?

Anyways, more importantly for now, I want to play games on it and use the TV as the display. I noticed that when using the internet and other applications the visual quality is pretty poor on the TV as the font is difficult to read. Will I run into the same visual quality issues if I play pc games on the TV? When I first started this out, I posted a message that I wanted to use the htpc as pvr, internet, etc and someone said the internet wouldnt work unless I had hdtv. Is this the case with pc games too. If so is there anything i can do other than going out and buying a hdtv?

Thanks for any reponses guys.

  Too many log files
Posted by: reboot - 2005-03-29, 08:07 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I have 29 various .log files in my GBPVR folder.
What can I delete? All? Some? If so, which ones?
I suspect many of these come from trials of various skin mods that have failed.
I have since switched the logging to error only.

  Seperate GBPVR menu for MVP
Posted by: Networker - 2005-03-29, 07:48 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

Is it possible to have a seperate Menu or Skin for MVP use while using a different menu/skin for PC use?

That'd be cool.

John
